Stay away...do not join the club. More head aches than smiles.

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

When we went to a presentation at the resort, we directly asked the salesmen, “Is this a timeshare?” They lied to our face and said no. The whole thing was just one shameless lie after another. We wer... See more

We had a very disappointing experience with Marriott, specifically with their Vacation Club. Last year, we stayed at a Marriott property on Kona Island (Kaua‘i), Hawaii, and were introduced to the Mar... See more

Do not make the same mistake I did. I put my trust in Marriott Vacations Club to be honest and thoroughly read and explain my contract to me before I purchased a timeshare from them. What they did was lie and rush me through the signing. The reading and signing of the contract took less than 15 minutes, which should have been a HUGE red flag. I highly recommend to avoid doing business with Marriott Vacations because they will screw you over. If you find yourself in the same situation I was in and you are about to sign the contract, here are some top tips for understanding contracts, courtesy of Google: Don’t accept verbal agreements (Marriott loves to make those) Read the WHOLE thing – no matter how long it takes Read it more than once Ask questions (which they will discourage you from doing) Understand what should be included and what’s missing. (Marriott tends to leave out many fees you will need to pay like they did with us)
A horrible stay comes to a end Sharing our horrible stay experience which I feel like to post on Google reviews as well A) arrived at airport - we were given a car through offugo In scorching heat it took 2 hrs searching for car, multiple calls to offugo - very uncomfortable start ( as offugo don’t have any counter ) B) Reached apartment - fridge wasn’t working Gas hob - we couldn’t figure out to operate I requested maintainence staff but it took 2 hrs wait before anyone turned up Fridge wasn’t fixed and finally after 3 hrs they replaced fridge All this while we were hungry, no food beating our head with maintainence staff instead of vacationing C) second night my daughter caught fever at night, I came to reception , but given blunt answer “ we don’t sell medicines” No guidance was given to us about any doctor service we can get - which we expect from vacation club being foreigners on their lane ( guidance only ) D) Last nail in the coffin as they say - housekeeping disposed off our home remedy medicine/spices which are essential to my blood pressure and my wife skin allergy - they disposed it off as rubbish When we returned we couldn’t find it , along with some other kitchen stuff - all of that removed as rubbish As a result our remaining holiday turned into a nightmare as we struggled with our health condition due to lack of our meds E) I had a vacation club gift card - when I tried to use it - reception had no idea how to use it Was standing at reception for 30 min but reception staff was confused and couldn’t figure out how to use gift card of Marriott vacation club itself This was. Surprising - they still didn’t sort it and asked me to leave while they will send me email Overall horrible experience- I was keen on buying membership but this experience turned ne off , if this is how Marriott vacation experience is like Feed back of our experience
I am a Marriott hotel user, and have Titanium Elite status. I only share this because I actually like Marriott. However, we got invited to a timeshare presentation at Marriott Oceana Palms, Riviera Beach, FL and decided to go. We confirmed that is was okay to bring another couple before finalizing. A few weeks before I discovered that the two bedroom suite was actually a hotel room and not suitable for two couples. No help was offered or given. They would not help us, cancel us or refund us. They would not even upsell us to another unit. The MVC manager Brittany was very rude and not helpful. Our only solution was to rent another 2 bedroom suite elseware and pay for that and the crappy little hotel room that they provided. We also still had to attend the presentation, or risk being penalized more financially. Once there, a nice person named Jessica Segebre offered to help and told us that people cancel all the time. Bottom line is there was nothing she could do regarding a cancellation and refund. At least she got back to me, but blamed corporate for not helping. We were open to buy MVC but at this point, we don't see that happening. Time Share sales people are snakes. I am disappointed with Marriott and their Vacation Club team. They should have offered a win - win by selling us an upgrade or cancelling our initial payment, but decided on neither option.
I have been a "Presidential" owner of Marriott for over 20 years. I own 4 weeks of timeshare (3 weeks Phuket and 1 week Las Vegas). Marriott's website is nothing short of shameful; it is extraordinarily slow and when you try to book points you routinely get a message "Fatal Error Searching Availability". Most recently (Aug 30, 2022) I contacted Marriott to "bank" my time / points and got a message stating that "all lines were busy" and was offered a callback. The callback never came and the deadline (Aug 31, 2022) passed. I contacted Marriott again on Sep 1, 2022 to enquire why no one called me back and asked how I can bank my time / points but was told flat out that under no circumstances could I bank my time / points because the deadline had now passed (1 day) and that it is up to me to chase Marriott before the deadline passes regardless of the systems / staffing issues that they apparently have. I asked to speak with a manager and was told that the manager declined my request to bank my time / points and that I could not speak with the manager as, apparently, "managers do not take phone calls". My experience with Marriott over the years has not been much better, but it is clear (in my opinion) that in recent years Marriott has completely lost its way and has zero interest in taking care of its most important asset - the owners / customers. I truly regret being talked into buying these timeshare weeks and am planning to do whatever I can to get out of them once and for all.
I have many negatives. Big ones are mentioning in sales presentations the onboarding of Sheraton etc. by summer and now saying could be by end of year. Secondly, a lot of time wasted trying to contact NY Sales Office for an appointment time. We have been satisfied generally with resorts and service at the resort but incredibly dissatisfied with all aspects of sales offices in a number of locations. Get any promise such as new facilities in writing.
Something funky is going on with Marriott Vacation Club system currently. I've been trying to book weeks for check in starting June 2023 using Destination points in Hilton Head Island. Surprisingly, all Vacation Club resorts in Hilton Head are booked up for the entire month of June 2023 - literally no availability - and this is a year in advance. Also surprisingly, you can book a room at a few of the resorts via the Marriott.com website for Vacation Club resorts - but at prices averaging $500 per night or more. I've been an owner since 1996 and never had this issue using my home resort, or using points until this year.
Feels like a scam. We have 2 weeks in Marriott Marbella for Summer time but the only way to book these weeks is through a convoluted awkward process which is run like a lottery. Like trying to get tickets for a concert. We have tried for the past 4 consecutive weeks to book our holiday for next year, each time being told there is no availability within minutes of the apartments being made available. If you don't call within a minute or two of the week being made available, there is no way to book it for the following year. Complete scam which countless Marriott timeshare owners only discover after coughing up tens of thousands of pounds. Makes far more sense and a lot less stress (and cost) to just book a conventional holiday.
I have always enjoyed our timeshare and usually decline a meeting for further sales. We have owned for about 20 years. And through the years there have been pros and cons but mostly good. Today was quite the twist. We were told we would be met as a VIP for registration. When we arrived ( after driving 2 days in a car with 4 kids) we were escorted into A semi private area where we were offered beverages and snacks. We were then brought to an additional area “to go over our registration.” It quickly turned into a sales pitch to book a further meeting. We explained that we were not interested in any further sales as we are on a very tight schedule with our vacation. We were told we were going to learn about all the additional perks and benefits. At this point I just wanted to get unpacked and get a shower after a long trip! Then wanted us to sign a form that we would attend - no go. I then asked the person doing our “registration “point-blank can you assure me that no one is going to try to sell me something at this meeting on Friday? He told me that yes there would be an offer and I let him know I was not interested and would not attend a meeting. Quite annoyed that they took 30 minutes of my time with this nonsense. Next time they offer me something VIP I don’t know it’s just a ploy. Our timeshare has been worth our investment however the constant trying to upsell is extremely annoying.
We have been owners for twenty years, two weeks at Son Antem and one in Phuket, we have had fantastic holidays. Marriott have been excellent, we did not buy this as an investment, timeshare is not for making money, we use our weeks and pay a service charge. The other option we use, are destination points, and I have never had any problems exchanging. The sales team are excellent and very clear on what you are buying.
Make it impossible to use your points- not worth it! Been with them for years and will not help by making a few day extension. Too many rules to follow to use points at certain timelines/ cancel at certain timelines- end up wasting money and management is only getting stricter instead of trying to help long time owners.
I should never have given my business to Marriot! All it has brought me is frustration and irritation since 2018. I was supposed to get dream vacations, not a never-ending nightmare. The “investment” I was sold is worth NOTHING. Availability is an absolute joke. I found this out after more than 10 unsuccessful attempts to vacation to Hawaii. Luckily, there was a solution… buy more points! It figures that the solution is to spend thousands more! At one point, I caved and bought the points. Shockingly, it didn’t help. What’s worse is paying maintenance fees that constantly go up for something I can barely use. I have spent over $10,000 on FOUR trips! Trips that would not have cost $2,500 a piece!
Unfortunate experience recently. We bought a week in playa andaluza years ago and recently are just not able to book the week we want and always got. We have one week so a 12 month window, so the multiple week owners with a 13 month window are ahead and it seems nothing is left to book after. Marriott would not confirm either way , but certainly would not confirm/guarantee availability with the 13 month window either. They acknowledged on the phone there was just no way for me to get it. Note I was on the phone and helped 4 seconds after opening so the rep said I did everything 100% right. “There is no availability, sorry , we don’t guarantee availability , you can book another time” Something changed it seems just to be oversubscribed.
Beware of Marriott salespeople, and sales arguments - And no longer rely on customer service becoming poor quality. I want to tell you what happened to me, the bad behavior of Owner Service, and the lack of correct information from the sales people at the Marbella Beach Resort. Since 2007 I have owned Marriott Vacation Club, up to date with my weeks payments. For years on the occasion of my holidays in the resorts I have been invited to sales meetings, especially in Marbella. This year, on May 10, unfortunately I fell for it; they sold me a third week using as a selling point the fact that I would reach Executive level, with the option to book my weeks with a 13 month window. I repeatedly asked for confirmation of this fact, as it was the only thing I wanted to achieve with the new purchase. Both the seller and the sales office manager assured me that upon reaching Executive level I would be able to book my week with a 13-month window. On June 12, my profile became Executive on the site. To my surprise, I saw that it was not possible to book with a 13-month window from the site, which was not specified to me at the time of the sale. I contacted the sales office in Marbella, which confirmed my contract right, advising me to contact Owner Service and sending an email on my behalf to solicit a contact. Not having a landline, I sent an email asking to be contacted. Until the 16th no one called me, until, at the request of the same seller, I was contacted by a consultant, who told me that I could not book with a 13-month window, that she would ask other colleagues and that she would call me back. Since then, no one has contacted me. I sent several emails, I entered the contact request on the site, but no one called. Today, when the 12-month window opened, the site was out of order. After an hour and 15 minutes on the phone on a toll number, I spoke to a consultant who booked me for the week. So I have to conclude that my May purchase did nothing. I spent a lot of money, took on a new annuity and didn't change anything in the booking method. I am disappointed and furious with Marriott, and I feel betrayed in the trust I placed in the company and in the sellers, who obey business logic just like all the sellers in the world, with no respect for customers and for the brand. I hope my experience will be useful to someone.
Really poor service Nobody answers the phone When finally you make contact they are not interested Just say we will ring you back and never do Their maintenance fees are extortionate in any case Not had any offer re lost week in pandemic Never any availability when one wants to go I am far from happy
We are writing this review to warn people of Marriott’s scheming, manipulative sales representatives selling people timeshares, or better said tricking people into purchasing a timeshare”, it's all one big pyramid scheme! Unfortunately for my wife and I we were duped and schemed into purchasing a with Marriott. The salespeople scammed us, we now see this contract for what it truly is, a scam. They sold us a fairy tale and described the timeshare as something marvelous, easy to use, and if needed we could even rent it out for a profit, but that was all LIES! This timeshare has not benefited us one bit, all we are doing is throwing our money down the toilet. They sold us the timeshare like a benefit and an opportunity to even make money from it, but we haven’t made any money, instead all Marriott has done is increase our maintenance fees and always want more money!
Marriott Vacation Club has betrayed our trust and loyalty to the Marriott brand. I’m sharing our experience because people need to be made aware of their deceptive sales tactics and fraudulent sales presentations. The timeshare salespeople, specifically Joaquin Boadella & Brooks Bohon, lied to my wife and me and continued to lie to keep my business by not letting us out of our contract. We were told that we would receive amazing VIP benefits if we continued to upgrade our ownership, including priority booking of rooms and resort events, travel booking services, and so on. We were also sold on the idea that our ownership could be sold back to Marriott at a later date After paying almost $35,000 to date, we have discovered that there is no such thing as VIP status or specific benefits and Marriott does not buy back memberships. Don’t trust anything your salesperson says. We attempted to get out of our contract using the 10-day rescission period, based on the receipt of the final paperwork. We received the contract on August 21, 2021, and we emailed a cancellation request on August 31, 2021, just before midnight. I know they received it because our salesperson called us THE NEXT DAY telling us it was too late to cancel, and we had missed the rescission period. When I read him the contract language verbatim, he said he would investigate it, but we never heard from him again. Not addressing their owner complaints seems to be an ongoing theme with this company. We voiced our complaints to Charles Buckley, the Director of Sales, but he never responded. We then contacted Rhonda Robinson, Owner Advocate, and eventually the Director of Customer Advocacy, Carla Smith. We were met with a complete lack of respect on all fronts. The owner advocates defended the tactics, lies, and fraudulent information that was used to sell us our points. We have now escalated our concerns to the President of the company at their corporate headquarters. We have yet to receive a response. Heed my warning, don’t become an owner of Marriott Vacation Club!
I give Marriott a negative rating for all the lies and predatory gimmicks they pulled on me and my wife. Practically everything that they’ve told us was either false or misrepresented. Unless you’re looking to be trapped into debt and letdowns avoid Marriott timeshare. Their salesmen told us buying a timeshare was an investment where we would be generating a profit! All lies. Their interest rate is 10.99% and the high maintenance fees are due even if you don’t use the timeshare, even during COVID. They don’t buy it back when you realize how lousy their timeshares are. Availability is horrible, they specifically told us we could travel to multiple places in North America, but we’re limited to Florida and South Carolina. The salesmen pressure you for hours and hours and at the end it is simply not worth it. The financing was done under my wife’s name knowing full well that she doesn’t work, and I’m retired. What does that say about Marriott’s ethics? They con folks into signing the paperwork which they rush through and don’t disclose the important financial information. How they can continue to get away with putting people in financial ruin is beyond me! They need to be investigated for their dubious business practices. Warn other, do not do business with Marriott’s timeshare division…in fact stay away from all Marriott properties if this is what they let their timeshare division get away with!
It's now not even owned by Marriott. I had the unfortunate experience of wasting over £24K joining MVC. The value of the membership does not go up (in fact I gave the title back to them for £0). Trying to book weeks in my home location was becoming impossible, I was refused booking when you could just go on bookings.com and rent weeks at the same time. Maintenance was going up every year. Then during Covid the maintenance charges stayed the same, despite that obviously the costs were much less with no customers staying. It's just a very sophisticated money making machine that continually modifies the way it works. There is no transparency in the system, they could be even selling more rental weeks than are actually available, I also suspect that they keep ownership of the best weeks for themselves. My advice stay away and book your weeks on Bookings.com it will be cheaper!
We shake our heads with disappointment towards the Marriott timeshare salespeople, all they are is money hungry, lying, scam artists’, and they just flat out lie, lie, lie, lie!!!! Sad to say, but we purchased a timeshare with Marriott and since we’ve made that purchase all we’ve had is a financial burden brought into our lives. Beyond the lies, the most unforgettable one we found out about was that when we passed away our children would have to take over the obligation of the never-ending timeshare fees and that is not at all what we want for our children. Their salespeople leave out a lot of critical information like the total financial impact when you factor in their ridiculous interest rates, that there is a legal cancellation window, making a reservation is nearly impossible and the list goes on. I pray that anyone going on a Marriott timeshare presentation reads this review and heeds my advice.
