Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

I have been an owner for almost 3 years. My husband was the one who talked me into buying and believe it or not it was the best decision we’ve made so far. We took our vacations to a whole another level. Very flexible program. Definitely the best one out there. This year we booked Phuket Beach Club. Looking forward to it.

We booked a timeshare for 1st week of April 2023. I have now called twice to reschedule our appt and have been told someone would get back to me, that didn’t happen and now was put on hold indefinitely (I hung up at 34+ minutes holding)!! This is such a horrible company. Once they get your money they could care less about you. Even if you have an emergency and just want your appt moved up one day!!!! We will NEVER give them a penny more!!!

Seriously

Seriously, why is no one in starting a class action. The MVC salesman yesterday would not allow us access to the presentation, wanted us to shell out $15k on the spot. No, we can’t even do any due diligence!

Marriott Vacation Club Asia Pacific is…

Marriott Vacation Club Asia Pacific is a cheating company. They made me lose $50,000 USD by seizing my membership due to COVID. I asked them to refund me but they insisted that I shall pay their maintenance fee of $1700+USD per year during three years of COVID closures even though their clubs were closed and customers could not use their service at all. They even cancelled my booking in early 2020 in using 2018-2019 points. Do not trust Marriott Vacation Club, they are thieves. When I bought the membership in 2016, the maintenance fees were $800 now fees per year are close to $2000 USD. With this money we could book decent hotels worldwide. I insist they refund me my hard earned money. $50000 USD plus 4 years of interest. Can anybody help?

Attended their sales presentation

Attended their sales presentation. Totally incomprehensible. Then did the ROI in my head and there isn’t one. $250k for 15000 points plus $10k a year mtce fees. Think about that, I could spend $20k a year for 18 yrs before I would spend that amount of money. By that time I am 95. Don’t think I will be travelling at 95. I asked a lot of questions about the ROI and there isn’t one. They claim to buy back your points at 70% of what you paid. Like a new car, 30% depreciation once you drive it off the lot. Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me except you lose big time.

Marriott Vacation Club Lies!

We joined the Marriott Vacation Club “Family” in 2018 and have had nothing but issues and bills since. What it boils down to is the Marriott Vacation Club and its sales agents very purposefully misrepresented the facts, lied, and used high stress tactics to bully and manipulate people into purchasing a useless product. How they lure you into these presentations is with promises of “gifts”, and telling you that the meeting only lasts about 90 minutes. Our meeting was over five hours, where these Salespeople managed to lie and misrepresent the product in the following ways: MVC timeshare points would be easy to resell, and MVC staff would assist us any time. Total fabrication, good luck with resale! We were told we could use the timeshare often and could travel to international destinations. Again, a fabrication. Marriott’s portal to view and exchange points is extremely convoluted and not user friendly. We also discovered that in addition to our points, we would have to pay a substantial amount out of pocket. Essentially pre-paying for travel was possibly the biggest selling point for us, and we had clearly been lied to. The MVC annual maintenance fees were also totally misrepresented. It was not clearly explained that we would be paying recurring annual fees on top of our monthly fees. This was a huge burden both emotionally and financially. Maintenance fees, resort fees and other taxes were never included in any discussion of price or payments for ownership during the presentation, however, we were held financially responsible for all of those and more. We also later found out that our children would be responsible for the mortgage and maintenance fees upon our passing. This was not something we intended for them to have to handle or be financially responsible for, nor did we agree to have their names included in the contract with MVC. We are so disappointed in MVC; we really thought the brand name alone stood for some level of integrity. We were wrong.

Sheraton Timeshare Review

Sheraton Flex, Marriott Worldwide Vacations or whatever they are calling themselves these days, we may be old, but we are not confused that you are taking advantage of people. We are also not convinced that it is not purposeful in nature. It looks and feels like a pyramid scheme, entrapping Senior Citizens, like ourselves in an endless maze of lies, half-truths and expenses. We have reached out to the company multiple times via phone and writing and have received zero help or movement towards resolution of multiple issues. We have provided names, dates, and examples of the outright misrepresentations on the sales table. The Myrtle Beach office, told us that anyone in our family or as deemed by us, would have access to our benefits. Not so. They would have access to Disney World specifically through Sheraton. Not so. They conveniently did not provide us with the contract until after the legal cancellation period. We will be looking into the legalities, on that subject matter as well as the lack of disclosures regarding the loan terms including the “Truth in Lending” not being explicitly or obviously reviewed at the point of purchase. Regardless of the name on the sign, they clearly do not care about their brand, reputation or looking out for the elderly. We might be old, but we will go down fighting. We have used our timeshare 3 times in 7 years, they have been compensated more than fairly for that usage. They served us Bloody Mary’s during the entire presentation. They ran my partners credit without his permission, and when it was too low, they asked for permission to run mine. We are both on fixed SS income and food stamps. This is definitely a financial hardship. We want to part ways IMMEDIATELY and wholly, but for now we are stuck with this valueless product.

To Marriott

To Marriott, You are holding our timeshare hostage: 1) You have either ILLEGALLY PAID DUES TO VACATION CLUB AGAINST OUR WISHES which is what Interval International says it looks like you did. 2) OR you have LIED to us and YOU DID NOT RELEASE OUR TIMESHARE from your Vacation Club. I WAS ASSURED THIS HAD BEEN DONE MY LAST ENDLESS TELECON WITH YOUR COMPANY. However, today, II said it was STILL showing as a corporate account! Corporate? WHAT? • We tried to combine our Marriott and Westgate timeshares under one account for our convenience at Interval International. We finally discovered the issue keeping this from happening was YOU, Marriott!! We were showing as a “corporate account” with Marriott which YOUR ADVISOR SAID WAS BECAUSE OF THE VACATION CLUB MEMBERSHIP, WHICH WE PROMPTLY DID NOT RENEW, when I called in and got hold of a rep to talk to. We are certainly not a “corporate” anything, we own a private timeshare though Marriott! • When I spoke to you, Marriott, I told your rep we had NEVER used the Vacation Club, nor did we care to do so in the future. WE DID NOT PAY TO RENEW THE CLUB MEMBERSHIP in 2023. Your rep MADE NOTE AND PROMISED in a couple of weeks I would be able to call Interval International and combine the accounts. GUESS WHAT? We are STILL LISTED with Marriott as a Club Member, even though WE DID NOT RENEW OR PAY THE DUES!! • Your attitude about the cash cow customers is appalling. Your real feelings show in that NOBODY can live long enough to get past the outer ranks of salespersons to a LIVE SUPERVISOR to remedy this mess. (We SOLD our Marriott timeshare years ago and you asked us to buy it back. We did. AND THIS IS THE WAY WE GET TREATED?) We pay our timeshare costs in a timely manner. All we ask is that you treat us with the same respect and take care of our one request. How sad you are willing to disrespect and spit on your loyal customers like this. MEANTIME the Marriott rep “Erin” who had me on hold for a supervisor finally told me COULD NOT GET ME CONNECTED to a Supervisor who could get this issue resolved; they were ALL so busy with others….I spent 30 minutes THIS TIME on the phone with Marriott to no avail. I NOW HAVE A CASE NUMBER AND CAN EXPECT A CALL BACK IN 3 TO 5 DAYS. Days. Not hours. Days! I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO HOLD. Nice. My CASE NUMBER is # - - - - - - with MARRIOTT: NOTE TO SUPERVISOR: DEAR SUPERVISOR, PLEASE JUST EMAIL ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND YOUR FIX. H----- @ ------(as in your files) I CANNOT BE EXPECTED TO WAIT FOR A CALL BACK IN DAYS. PLEASE JUST FIX THIS SCREW UP PROMPTLY and email me to that effect. It’s a pretty telling thing when your own members cannot get an issue taken care of in a timely manner per telecon. Sure shows where “people” stand in the Marriott view. Quite Sincerely, H-----Cl-----n Marriott Owner # - - - - - Westgate Owner # - - - - - -

The Worst Possible Customer Service in Singapore!

The Customer Service in Singapore is simply horrible to put it mildly. If you call, there are long holds and eventually have to hang up. Emails are not responded to even after 3-4 reminders. The excuse is too many calls. Perhaps the technology platform needs to be half decent so that members don’t need to call so much. Or add more people. Current situation is a huge drag on Marriott brand and I am surprised the company has allowed this bad situation to continue. How do you speak with Customer Service in Singapore?

Signing for Mariotts Vacation Club is a big loss of your money. It's a trap if not researched properly. Once you dig into details, believe me you will never go for this.

Hi, Please do not go for this. There are so many restrictions which will make it impossible for you to get any benefit of this. me and my husband are trapped in this. Once you sign up for this you are always in loss. All benefits go to Marriott. 1. They have very few locations which might not be in your list. The list is very limited. 2. you wouldn't like to travel the same place every year 3. you pay a hefty amount of Maintenance fee every year on top of one time big amount 4. It's very difficult to get the bookings as everyone has already booked it 1.5 year ahead. 5. Also, their points are not worth what you pay for 6. they do not talk about the loopholes in their presentation and so on. Please please please never ever go for this at the time of their presentation. Go back home and do all research about this before you sign the contract. This is totally unfair vacation club.

I have been vacationing at Aruba…

I have been vacationing at Aruba Marriot Ocean club for many years. Most have been terrific. More recently the quality of the resort has declined to unacceptable lows. My last stay was this pact Jan and here’s what happened. Upon checking into our room my wife discovered that the microwave was not cleaned. It had residue of Pizza or sauce from previous guests. We called housekeeping and they eventually came up to clean it up. Counters were filthy as well. After housekeeping left the room , I asked my wife to check the bed sheets. Sure enough they were dirty with stains. Again we called housekeeping and when she removed comforter and sheet a blood stain was revealed on the mattress cover. Possibly from a women’s period. That’s horrible!!!Such a scene is unimaginable. No hotel should be aloud to operate at this standard. It’s unsanitary!! After housekeeping left the room my wife wanted to have a cup of tea and when she took out a coffee cup she discovered it was also dirty. In fact many dishes and the salad bowl still had food in them. My wife felt embarrassed to once again call housekeeping. She ended up cleaning dishes of your previous guests. I am furious that my wife’s vacation starts off with her washing your dishes. Two days later my son and his wife arrived and wanted to shower in the lock out room bathroom. They discovered that there was water leaking from the ceiling. We called again to get help. Repairman arrived and said we can not use this shower until he finishes repairs. He came and left several times until he finished the repairs. We didn’t have the use of this bathroom for several hours after coming off the beach. I lodged a complaint about all this and two days later the Manager of Housekeeping , Maureen, came to our room with her staff to finally clean this room up properly. That’s several days after my check in!! I insisted on speaking with hotel manager about this ordeal. The manager Mr Pedro Vargas took three more days to finally contact me. He simply kept trying silence me. I complained to Marriot Corporate and so far no resolution. Marriot is NOT what it used to be

DO NOT BUY-IN TO Marriott Vacation Club Timeshare

My husband (then fiancé) and I went to Hawaii in 2021. (This site won't let me select this year) This was a dream vacation for me as I hardly had any money and had always dreamed of going to Hawaii. We spoke with the concierge about snorkeling and she said she would comp us the excursion if we attended a 1-hour meeting. We agreed and showed up to the meeting, but our salesperson Ottar would not let us leave their timeshare presentation, which had lasted over 5 hours, and even went as far as blocking the exit. During this meeting we had expressed our hesitation and concerns MANY times, we had refused many offers as well. They claimed if we left, we would be missing on this once in a lifetime deal. We were of course still on the fence from all this pressure so we asked if we could have some time to think about it. Our salesman said that was fine then placed 2 chairs in the doorway. He had gone THAT far to keep us in the office to get us to purchase something. That is so unprofessional, and Marriott cannot go on without being held accountable.

It sucks usually and when they post availability it sucks worse. I just paid $17k maintenance fees and cannot get a freakin reservation …. Looks like skiing is out next freakin year!!
