Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

Marriott Customer Service rarely is reachable - Website Often Down - Phone Hold Times beyond 1 Hour

I unfortunately still have a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare and I'm trying to reach them today to make a future reservation. I'm calling during normal business hours on a Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Their automated voicemail answers with "Our hold times are currently over 1 hour and we cannot take any more calls at this time." So, I went to their website to try to make progress. Their website crashes with error messages before I can make a reservation. So, I tried their online chat feature. It at first said that I was #14 in line but it crashed and locked up before I was ever helped. Marriott Vacation Club takes the money for the points/weeks/timeshare/vacation club but their service after that is terrible. I could not recommend to anyone to buy from Marriott Vacation Club at this time. I so badly want my current timeshare with them to have value but it just doesn't if I can't even reach a human there for help during normal business hours. Once again, when I go to the regular Marriott.com, they will gladly rent me the week I already paid for at a huge daily hotel fee. So, how is this even legal?

Don't do it!

Don't do it. You spend all this money and then can never book a trip when you want because nothing is ever available. There website is the least user-friendly site I've ever encounter, and their customer service is even worse.

DON'T DO IT!

Don't do it regardless what you are offered unless it's free. My wife and I have been Marriott Vacation owners for many years. This has been one of the most frustrating and costly experiences which we regret. We are trapped with no cost-effective way out. The number of vacation locations is limited, and availability is extremely low unless you buy a tremendous number of points at a cost only very wealthy people can afford. We have been misled or lied to by salespeople several times. We purchased more points a few years ago because the salesperson promised us Marriot was planning to add additional vacation locations that we hadn't booked already. Well, that was an outright lie. Marriott is selling more and more points every day to unsuspecting people making it almost impossible to book a vacation when you want to go. This year is the worse vacation season we've ever seen. Almost every location if fully booked. Making matters worse, the number of points required for a single night stay has increased because available in every desirable location is low or non-existent. Furthermore, our maintenance fees have tripled since we first purchased. The maintenance fees for a week we purchased years ago costs us $222 for a single night stay. This make no sense because anyone can go online and book a room at the same resort for an additional hundred dollars or so more per night. By the way, if you need to sell you will get pennies on the dollar. What really makes us mad is that we are retired and now our maintenance fees are more than the taxes on our home which is crazy. I beg you, avoid buyer's remorse and run away as fast as you can.

Live outside the UK

Live outside the UK - told last year our membership had ceased as requested, now being hounded by Marriott and its associates to get docs signed or pay fees. MVCI and Fidelity tell different stories - be really careful if you are buying and live outside the US. Not a pleasant experience - been with Marriott over 20 years. Disgusted.

Mostly very good.

We are owners and our only complaints are not being able to choose the building we prefer and that certain resorts like St Kitts do not meet the standards we expect of MVC. The renting of units by owners is also concerning. We had guests renting above us who were hell raisers. We had to call security due to all night parties. However, the MVC program has been very good in general.

Bitte nicht kaufen, Vorsicht, don't do it!

NICHT KAUFEN! Null Sterne!

It used to be a very good method of booking vacations. The resorts are always beautiful and even though the dues are high, its still less than booking per night. Now you cant book anything. None of the resorts are ever available. I can book as far out as 13 months and still cant book a resort. Stay away, I think they have oversold to too many customers and theres not enough inventory for everyone. Im looking to sell it back. It now sucks!.

The Money Pit!

Worst experience ever for the last 2 years. Went through a divorce and had to take this timeshare and it has cost me money continually. I have been unable to use it while still paying all the fees for it including a title transfer fee, due to their rules with ownership and changing from a couple to one person. Amazing their lack of flexibility.

Stay away from this company

Definitely one of the costliest mistakes we ever made, was buying timeshare through Marriot. We have been kicking ourselves for the past 20 years. Enormous fees and ridiculous increases annually. To top it off, you can only exit if you pay the maintenance fee for the next calendar year and accept exit without any compensation. Stay very far away from Marriot.

The customer service at Marriott…

The customer service at Marriott Vacation Club was the worst. They can't help you anything, not flexible at all. They dicretionarily impose late fees and interest for late payment for maintance and club dues. It's ridicious. A lawsuit for unreasonable late fees and interest should be commenced against Marriott vacation club.

Marriott Vacation Club website is the…

Marriott Vacation Club website is the worst. It's very difficult to make reservation and it doesn't let you cancel reservation. The loan services is also horrible. We set up the automatic payments every month and it went just fine then it suddenly stopped. They said that the bank denied to pay suddenly and they didn't let us know soon. So we had to pay the late charges. but the funny thing is one month it didn't get through and the next month it did then the auto payment disappeared on the website so we can't even set it up anymore. Too much trouble with the systems and the customer services didn't help. Very frustrated!

I am an owner of a timeshare unit at Harborside Atlantis, Bahamas (part of Marriott Vacations) and my ability to enjoy a room with my family was made impossible by rule *changes* that terminated the availability of fold up beds for children. Since that time in March 2018, I have been continuously trying to relinquish my ownership and stop the (forever increasing) association dues. I would do better to stay at the nearby hotel or elsewhere. So would you.

It is amazing to think that a company…

It is amazing to think that a company as large as Marriott Vacations Worldwide (and the at least 5 more brands they operate under) that our letter sent to a Senior Leader would result in a form letter equating to “to bad, so sad”, call an 800 number. The concept of “Customer Advocacy” is a joke. Their idea of advocacy is to point at lines in a 48-page contract that alludes to items that were specifically omitted or misrepresented.  We were TOLD Our unit would increase in value. It would be easy to resell. This is REAL ESTATE, with a deeded property (neither are true). Our children will inherit the property (lie, they will simply get bills). We upgraded 3 times, chasing the dream that the Sheraton/Marriott employees were selling. At no point during any of our contract signings, were we ever informed of the rescission period, nor did we sit down and review the real cost of the loan with our Sheraton agent. There is also a whole load of hidden fees that were never disclosed to us, nor do we understand their purpose, other than to take more of our money. We have no idea why, even though there have been little improvements done to the resort, that the maintenance fees have continued to rise way above the rate of inflation. Nothing is ever explained and when you ask questions your agents tell you to refer to the contract for explanations on the maintenance fees.  Good luck squeezing us for anything more! We don’t want what you have stuck us with.

RUN AWAY!

Sheraton/Vistana/Marriott are terrible organizations that have lied to and mistreated me on multiple occasions! The most recent examples are when I was asked to attend an owner presentation and promised it would only be a 1-hour meeting. I was stuck in their high-pressure sales presentation for over 5 hours while multiple employees ratcheted up the pressure to try to convince me to purchase more of their product. They lied about and withheld critical information about the offer to get me to buy. They told me they had a program that allowed me to sell it back to them if I no longer wanted the upgrade. They also told me it would increase the value of the membership allowing me to sell it on the open market. None of this was true. They also hid that the upgrade would significantly increase the annual maintenance fees I was paying to the point of it not being affordable. I fell for it and feel that my long day of work as a hospice nurse the day before made me more susceptible to their coercion. I did not think I had to worry about a company like Sheraton lying to me, I was wrong. In January of this year, I received calls from salespeople named Thomas DeMarco and Jason Moore. They told me I had to upgrade again into Marriott because Sheraton was bought out by them. I was assured I would have access to all the Marriott resorts as well as Disney resorts. After calling in to make reservations I was told that was not true. Marriott is not associated with Disney in any way, and I have VERY limited access to Marriott resorts! In order to not lose my points, I booked a hotel reservation and was told at the hotel I had to attend a meeting with a Marriott rep. It was another timeshare sales presentation, and that sales rep told me a story about refinancing out of the high percentage, compound interest loan I was in to a lower, simple interest rate loan with Marriott and that Marriott would refinance it or buy it back if I decided I did not want it. She assured me I would receive a copy of my contract via FedEx in a few days. When I did not, I called in to inquire re. the details of that contract only to find that she lied to me too. Same interest rate, same calculation, no refinance option, and they would not buy it back! How does a company like Marriott allow this? I have reached out to resolve this and no one has even had the courtesy to respond to my requests to be released from these memberships.

Marriott really put one over on us

Marriott really put one over on us! In June of 2022 we agreed to a discount vacation if we attended a 90-minute presentation. The presentation was a timeshare sales presentation that lasted well over 3 hours. We were told that buying into their program was a real estate investment that we could rent out our time for a profit and that the membership would appreciate in value over time. This is far from true. Rental for profit is not possible and this membership has no value, much less appreciating value. We were rushed through the signing, and they withheld pertinent information such as the actual interest rate on the loan and that we had a cancellation period per Florida law. We were also told our membership would allow us to book certain types of reservations all over the world but when we called in to book reservations, we were told our membership did not allow the kind of access they promised us it would. They told us we could stay anywhere at any time, which was a lie. We thought a company like Marriott could be trusted but have learned they cannot and that we are now stuck in a one-sided, very expensive contract without the benefits they promised we would have. This is fraud!

STUCK WITH THIS AND NOT HAPPY!!!!

Marriott apparently has no problem scamming and ripping off a LOYAL owner of over 2 decades. I CANNOT TRUST THEM ANY LONGER. I was talked into going to an update meeting where I intended to get help booking reservations through the website, which is always a nightmare. I was told the purchase I made the year before was an “A and B” purchase and I needed the B part. Apparently, that is what caused my issues as my A contract is worthless on its own. (Admitting I was sold something worthless to begin with should have been a red flag) I told the salesperson repeatedly that I could not afford another purchase, but he would not let up! I already caved once since making a real estate investment would be good for me in the long run. I later learned there is no real estate included with that purchase! I also was not told about the interest, so I had no idea I was paying so much more than I originally agreed to... So why would I want to buy another

PLEASE READ THIS

PLEASE READ THIS. Whenever any sales person offers you something exciting, please remember one thing, they need you , you don’t need them. So they make these crazy presentations, offers, promises and once you give in then you are doomed. I just finished attending a presentation yesterday, it was Online. I listened to the whole thing thinking that it might be something good coz the name Marriot is involved. But, eventually I learnt that these are silly marketing people who are trained to talk in an attractive way and give all false promises. However, at the end of the presentation when they were desperate I though let’s try and invest…..but my gut feeling helped and I was wise enough to not fall into this scam.
