Review summary

Hazelton's Canada receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with 97% of reviewers expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers appreciate the concept of gift baskets and the selection available, the majority report significant issues with service and product quality. Many people experience late deliveries, with orders arriving well past the promised dates, leading to frustration and disappointment. Reviewers frequently mention receiving incorrect or substituted items that do not match their original orders, often of lower quality. Complaints about poor customer service and a lack of accountability for mistakes are common, with several consumers feeling misled by the company's claims. Average experience - better value for $ elsewhere

Writing this review to reassure people who have placed orders and only found the negative reviews thereafter. My experience with Hazelton was average / okay. I ordered a bottle of champagne and roses as a congratulations present for a family member - ordered within the stated timing (pre 2pm ET) on Thursday for delivery on Friday (and paid $38 extra for this delivery but it was very last minute). Late: The gifts arrived on Monday rather than Friday, 1 business day later. This is not a complete disaster but as mentioned I had paid a lot for a priority shipping, which was not respected. No customer service: When I did not receive an email confirmation, I waited for several hours in a virtual queue on the live chat feature - nobody answered my message. I also sent an email - this remains unanswered. Good quality of products when delivered: The gifts arrived in perfect condition and the products were exactly what I had ordered (both premium, there were no substitutes for cheaper alternatives as I’ve seen other commenters mention). No complaints here. Expensive: The gift basket cost over $200 including the priority shipping (for $100 worth of stuff). You can probably get better value for money elsewhere.

Do not order from this company!

I ordered a custom Mother's Day basket that was supposed to include,1-2 gourmet items and we asked for bruschetta, cheese biscuits, pretzels- we receive cheese straws (whatever these are) and a airplane flight-sized bag of pretzels and a jar of corn salsa, ordered a cactus in a honeycomb pot-received a cactus in a square ceramic pot that was broken, ordered truffles in a box and chocolate-dipped fruit and got a candy bar, ordered Beringer Founders pinot grigio and go Woodbridge, ordered a birch bark basket with rope handles and got NO basket. Isn't the idea behind ordering a basket is you get a basket? I guess the substitute was the crappy cutting board. I spent over $80 for $20 worth of crap! This company is a joke. Don't order from them. They don't answer their phones either, so anyone saying they have good customer service is either lying or their reviews are fabricated.

WORST COMPANY EVER

WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANY REASON. If I could have the option of picking no stars, I would. This is literally the absolute worst company I have EVER dealt with. We placed an order last week for delivery on Friday, the 8th. We received an email on Friday stating that the order had shipped and was out for delivery. At 9pm on Friday, the recipient had not yet received the basket. We tried calling, but there is no option to discuss your order by phone...only to place a new order (which, by the way, doesn't get answered either...we tried!) So we send an email to customer service (which is non-existent) and received an autoreply saying an agent would be assigned. About two hours later, we received an email reply stating the order had been delivered, which was a lie. NO DELIVERY HAS BEEN MADE YET. Over the course of the weekend, we have sent countless emails and left numerous messages but not a single response has been received and the basket has STILL not been delivered. This morning at 9am, I opened a "chat" window on their ordering website. When I received my place in the queue AT 9:01AM, it stated there were 7 ahead in the queue. It is now 1:26pm and I am still in the queue with 2 ahead which is the status I have had for over 2 hours. STILL NO BASKET HAS BEEN DELIVERED. NO PHONE CALL RETURNED AND NO EMAIL RESPONSE RECEIVED. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM HAZELTONS.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, TERRIBLE SERVICE!

I also wish that I had seen these reviews prior to ordering. My order was to be delivered on May 9th and it wasn't. I tried numerous times to contact them on the 10th, with no luck. I then emailed, as the voicemail states you will be given a ticket number, and get quicker customer service. I did not receive a ticket number and have still not had a reply. I have called countless times today, with no luck yet. How disappointing. I highly recommend NOT using this company. UPDATE…This order was eventually delivered….in terrible condition. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I do have pictures of what it looked like when it arrived, but I don’t see where I can add them to this review. The bottom line….it was hardly salvageable!!

SCAM

I too wish that I had read these reviews prior to ordering. I ordered a Mother's Day basket for my daughter on May 8th for delivery on Mother's Day, May 10th. I received an email stating that my order was confirmed & that I would receive another email when it was shipped. I never received another email & the basket was not delivered. I have sent an email to inquire & have received an email back stating that a representative will be in contact within 24-48 hours. After reading these reviews, I won't hold my breath. Trying to contact them by phone is useless as nobody answers. I'll be lucky if the order is ever delivered & I suspect that I have thrown away my money. A lesson learned too late unfortunately. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

BAIT AND SWITCH BUYER BEWARE

BAIT AND SWITCH BUYER BEWARE I ordered on 5/6/20 in before the deadline to ship same day. Paid almost $40 for FedEx 2day which was fine because they confirmed they could deliver on 5/8/20 while placing the order. Instead of shipping 5/6 they let the order sit and shipped it 5/7 and then instead of 2 day they sent it regular UPS ground which probably ran them around $10 - nothing near the $40 for 2 day and it isn't arriving until the 11th. Could have been a simple and easily fixed mistake but after customer no service didn't reply to my first email I sent a second one and they replied with blatantly false information, made no apology, and simply didn't care that they completely ripped me off. I'll be disputing the full amount asap. After contacting them twice and explaining the full situation this is the only reply I've received: Hi Patrick, The order was hipped on the 7th and two business days will be thee 11th. Sincerely, [REMOVED] CSR

Worked for me

I ordered a basket with wine and chocolates for my Sister-in-Law as a Mothers Day Gift. I asked for it to be delivered the day before Mother's Day and submitted my payment. I then started reading online reviews of people getting the wrong baskets or never getting a basket at all. I began to worry but figured oh well, I will just see what happens. Everything showed up on time, looked as the pictures on their website depicted and was all accounted for. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and the company but I cannot help but feel I got very lucky since the bad reviews far outnumber the good ones.

I recently moved to Colorado and have…

I recently moved to Colorado and have been away from my best friend during some of the biggest moments of her life since. It was her birthday last week and I wanted to send her a CUSTOM birthday basket with all of her favorite things. I picked everything in the basket deliberately knowing her and what she loves. And Hazelton’s basically changed every single thing I purposefully picked out. She didn’t get any of the cheeses I picked (bleu, bellavitino, and goat) but instead all three were a different cheddar. I asked for crackers to go with the cheese and she instead received key lime pie cookies. I ordered her favorite dessert, pink velvet cupcakes, and they sent banana bread. The succulent I sent for her was all smashed and the pot broken with dirt covering everything. And when you email them a complaint because all of those changes are absolutely ridiculous (especially since they all are available via their site and you don’t know they are sold out of basically everything) they give you a bs answer and act like you should have read about all of that in their faq’s. I guess I believe that companies should do right by their paying customers, but this company has failed in that. Never again.

AVOID HAZELTONS

I told them not to ship bc recipient was away. They did anyways instead of giving me store credit. Also it arrived 2 days late with express post. They shipped 1 day after it was supposed to already be delivered. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. CHEESE WAS GROCERY STORE CHEESE. PEDESTRIAN ALL THE WAY. AVOID HAZELTONS AT ALL COSTS.

Legitimately a scam

Legitimately a scam. Hazelton's Gift Baskets (also known as The Basket Company) stole my credit card details and charged me a separate transaction 3 x the original amount I spent. Have had to have it investigated and my cards cancelled. Like all the other reviews, they are un-contactable and won't respond to any emails. The gift I actually ordered was a sham too, it arrived 2 weeks later than it should've, and didn't even get delivered to my friend (they had to drive an hour to pick it up). Just a horrible organisation. Do yourself a favor and avoid. The website may look good but it's all a front from this horrible excuse of a company. Please report them to the govt and make an online complaint, hopefully we can get these dishonest individuals shut down.

I wish I could give no stars

I wish I could give no stars. I'm so bummed I didnt read these reviews first. I sent a gift basket to my daughter in law for her birthday, containing perishables, chocolate covered strawberries and cupcakes and wine ... paid for next day shipping. They did ship it (apparently - cause she still doesn't have it) but they shipped it snail speed ground, it will be 7-10 days in transit - in what world is it ok to ship perishables this way when I paid for overnight. To make things worse, they refuse to answer emails, they don't respond to chat, and they disconnect you when you are on hold when you state you have an issue. Horrible Horrible Horrible.

Hazelton's (Scam baskets a bogus gifts)SUX!

Hazeltons Suxx!!! I ordered an Easter Basket and one of those Starwars Jelly bean machines and had it shipped to a States address. It took about 4 days before I received a notification of shipment. Which by then Easter was over. (Oh and their something shipped same-day express these the balls to ask for $899 - $1000!!!!! Which obviously they post until order paid for. And when they say ships the same day. It's a lie you receive a tracking number with yith your like any other company normally does. it's ships 4-5 days after.) Then when they received their basket it was nothing what was ordered. It was supposed to have a plush Teddy bear, a chocolate Easter bunny, and bunches of those Lil miniature eggs and a couple small chocolate figurines. And the Starwars jelly Bean machine. (which was the reason why I ordered.) What they got was a basket of old crinkly stuffing, a ratty ol stuffed bunny that looks like it was runned over, a plush puppy, a small container of some yucky blue things, a giant lolipop and a sample sized box with not even a handful of stale dried up Jelly beans. And NO Starwars jelly bean Machine Totally obviously ripped off for close to $100. I've contacted them the day the delivered and twice a few days afterward and one 2 days ago so for a total of 5 times since I received one reply Frome guy named Quiton, who always doesn't seen very interested in their was unable to provide any knowledgeable help just same old copy ando paste pre-printed literature found on their site anyways he responded an asked for me to send pics of what received. Lucky I still hado pics and text coversations on my phone about the basket so sent screen shots of that in and haven't heard back since no response nothiNG just bunches of auto reply so saying someone will get within 48 hours (they don't Wich month or yeare though) No apologies, no refund, or any kind of rebursement. Just totally ignoring me. I tried their online chat option once, and want to hear about horrible service?! The CSR didn't have a clue! Was definitely totaly uninterested in their job had no clue the business or just basic customer service skills totally pure lack of customer relations and just plain rude. And when I asked to be connected to their supervisor or manager or better yet a different rep they ended the chat! Hazeltons Sucks very poor service, customer care is a right off and they. should be charged for ripping people off and for false advertising. Their products are beyond poor quality and nothing like what's shown onsite. I don't even rate them a star! but had to select one to tell what bogus scam slop happy shop it is. (This site should also give the option of rating by lemons under those stars or something) just saying lol

Hazleton's rude customer service

Like everyone else, I wish I had read these reviews before ordering from this company. Due to COVID19 I specifically searched out a Canadian company to send a birthday gift to my cousin that just moved to Vancouver right in the middle of the shelter-in-place. I placed my order a week in advance and the website offered me a deliver by date that was on her birthday. I received an email on that day stating that it was shipped that day and would arrive a week later. When I reached out to let customer service know I was disappointed, I received an email from Q that basically said I was stupid to expect something to be on time during a health crisis. No apology or empathy, just a basic F-U. Well, F-U too Hazleton's!!!

Big Beware: SCAM of the Century

I have ordered a basket in total paid $100.00 plus taxes on April 15, 2020 for my bosses retirement. I am so sorry that I did not read these…

I am so sorry that I did not read these reviews before I spent $ 280 on shipping 2 sympathy baskets. My experience is exactly what I am reading here. I fully understand that with Covid most organizations are shut down - or operating with a small staff. But that is exactly why I chose Hazeltons. The website specifically said "open during covid" and publishes their shipping details (ie., order before 2pm and leaves same day, open 7 days a week etc). I thought this was my BEST option to try to get sympathy baskets out to 2 families who lost a parent during Covid because I could not go see them in person. I entrusted them to do this for me. 6 days later, I email them asking about my 2 orders because I can't find any evidence that they arrived yet. They answer my email with an apology saying it is delayed due to covid and ship only one basket? So I email again. Same canned email apologizing and the 2nd basked gets sent out on day 8. I looked up the couriers tracking numbers. These baskets are due to arrive in 5 more days. It will be at least 2 weeks before my friends receive the sympathy basket …..far to late for them to know that I was thinking of them. If anything, they will think it was an after thought. I am too embarrassed to call them and explain....what a mess. So disappointed with the false advertising they have on their website.

Alert: This online business is a scam, operated by white-collar criminals!

Don't order from them if you don't want to be trapped in their white-collar crime. Please report this one as much as possibe so the police is aware. They would not deliver on time, and would not send the product you ordered. I ordered a basket worth $300 consisting baby blankets booties and other clothing items with additional gourmet stuff and balloons. They sent pampers and wipes worth $30 instead of the original basket; forget about sending additional stuff I ordered. Its like I placed an order for a dress but received nappies. Again in bold, this website is a scam, operated by white-collar criminals, and its agents, Jane and Naima, are extremely dodgy. Beware!

BEWARE! DON’T TRUST FAKE REVIEWS

They advertise on their website and CONFIRMED at checkout that the basket I ordered would be delivered with 2 day delivery. I paid $75+ dollars JUST FOR DELIVERY! THEN, they didn’t ship the stupid basket until 2 days after I ordered it, which in turn made my delivery actually a 4 day delivery. Completely missed the celebration, WAY overpaid for expedited service that I didn’t receive which was 100% HAZELTON’S fault, not the delivery service. It showed on the website... “order by 2pm today for delivery in 2 days”. Total BS. Not to mention they do not answer the phone and just direct customers to the website or email, pffft they certainly didn’t answer the email either. I will be disputing the charges with my credit card. Good luck surviving in this space! You literally run a gifting service which is typically a last minute purchase for a lot of people. I chose your site because it guaranteed the delivery. Then, absolutely zero customer service (I was never was able to speak to an actual human) and they didn’t deliver what the website allowed me to purchase. Business 101 failed. Don’t use them! Beware!
