Review summary

Hazelton's Canada receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with 97% of reviewers expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers appreciate the concept of gift baskets and the selection available, the majority report significant issues with service and product quality. Many people experience late deliveries, with orders arriving well past the promised dates, leading to frustration and disappointment. Reviewers frequently mention receiving incorrect or substituted items that do not match their original orders, often of lower quality. Complaints about poor customer service and a lack of accountability for mistakes are common, with several consumers feeling misled by the company's claims. Overall, the sentiment is overwhelmingly negative, with many urging others to avoid this company.

Consumer alert!!! Avoid Hazeltons!!!

Consumer alert! Avoid Hazelton's like the plague! Or to be more current with today, avoid them like COVID-19! This company says online that they can deliver your order with same day service and will gladly take your money for it, but beware there is fine print in the terms and conditions that nobody reads that stipulates no order is refundable. They have covered all their bases in the fine print to ensure you never see your money again. I ordered a birthday cake online to be delivered on April 18th for a birthday party and the cake never showed up. I contacted them with no reply until a coupe of days later I got contacted by Jane who told me all orders are non-refundable but I could get store credit. I didn't want store credit, i wanted my money back. I htink that its terrible that in these trying times, companies like this are out to get people.

Avoid Hazelton’s like Covid19. Social Distance yourself away from this place!

I ordered the Ultimate Beer Tasting Package that was to include 4 beers plus 4 craft beers plus Canadian snacks and glasses. What they sent was 2 Chinese beers and a bunch of Chinese snacks. In short not at all what I ordered. To further add insult to injury, the snacks had been opened. Not pierced or damaged in transit, opened. In the time of Covid 19 this is even more serious. Also, if all this wasn’t bad enough one beer was smashed. I paid $225.99 on 1 Chinese beer and Chinese snacks I never ordered. Will be taking them to court. Especially over deliberately spreading Covid19 virus over Food Tampering. All I asked of them was to make it right. They said no. Avoid this place he way you’re avoiding Covid19. Social distance yourself from Hazelton’s Gift Baskets. So negligent on their part.

I'd give zero stars if I could...I was so excited to send my far away family gifts...kind of like we were together I suppose...but 7 days later, out of pocket hundreds of dollars, zero communication from Hazeltons even though I've emailed, called (that's a joke no answer or options to speak with anyone) and tried the live service rep ( for hours waiting) nothing. Not a peep. Shame on you Hazeltons, you could be great, bit choose to be a greedy dishonest company. I will NEVER order from you again and will continue to post my experiences with your company. Shame on you.

I wish I had read these reviews

I wish I had read these reviews. I had the exact same experience. Absolutely terrible. I ordered an Easter basket 2 weeks in advance in order to ensure it arrived on time for my kids. The delivery service called on Easter Friday saying they could not locate the address. I confirmed the address and noted they had the postal code, so not sure how you could not find it. They said they would re-deliver on Monday, which was already bad enough since Easter was on Sunday. Again, on Monday they said they could not find the house. I contacted Hazelton's and they said nothing they could do, it was the delivery service. Brutal customer service. Will never order again from them and recommend anyone who does not too. I also tried to submit a review on their site which they did not post as they screen reviews and only post positive ones. That is completely misleading.

Hazelton's Dropped the Ball!!!

Ordered an Easter gift basket for my grandson last Wednesday for delivery Saturday. The delivery chosen was 2 days. I was sent an email on Thursday saying the basket was shipped and on it's way. I was impressed that they put it together so fast and picked up by Canpar however that wasn't the case. I was given a tracking number. I started tracking the parcel on Friday but there was no information. The parcel didn't arrive on Saturday as hoped and again no tracking information available. Easter Sunday there was still no tracking information so I thought I would email Hazelton's to ask them where my gift basket was. (They don't take phone calls re: customer service) I received an email response saying they don't know. It's out of there hands as it's a Canpar issue. Well it's now Monday night and Easter is over but I thought I would check the tracking number once again and finally there's some information. It turns out Canpar only picked up the basket today Monday at 5:55 pm 2 full days after the requested delivery date. Why didn't Hazelton's tell me my basket wasn't picked up last Thursday and was still sitting in Hazelton's warehouse when I inquired on Sunday? They knew it was for Easter. The cost of this basket was $127. There was a carrot cake included in this gift which will need to be thrown out as it's been sitting around since Thursday. Hazelton's dropped the ball on this one. This was my first experience using them and unfortunately my last. Their customer service is sorely lacking. I understand we're all working under trying times at the moment but they've chosen to be open for business. If they can't handle the business at this time they need to close until they figure out how to service their clientele and not just take their money. I'm sure they'll try to pass the blame onto Canpar but the basket was still in Hazelton's possession. When they realized that the basket wasn't picked up last Thursday as they told me they should have given me the option to cancel as they knew it would not arrive on time. This was Hazelton's mistake and they should own it. For this reason I can't recommend this company.

Hazelton basket company is a scam!!!

DO NOT under any circumstances waste your money on this company it’s a scam! They DO NOT honour the delivery guarantee and ignore their phones and emails when your delivery has not arrived! I have spent $224 for 2 Baskets to be delivered at different addresses which was scheduled 2 days later and received a shipping confirmation with a tracking number however the courier Company they chose is closed on wkds. They lied about sending the shipments cause I’m sure the courier company has closed on Thursday for Easter wkd with these baskets left in their trucks! When they finally replied they confirmed that the baskets were sent when I asked if that’s the case then that means the perishables will be rotten by the time the courier company reopens on day 5 but no answer!

WARNING

WARNING! Please read before you use Hazelton’s. Never in my life have I dealt with such a sketchy, dishonest company. I strongly recommend you read my review before considering placing an order. with them or their sister companies. I ordered four fruit sympathy gift baskets (totalling $500) for my cousins, whose mother passed away. Hazelton’s website is great - looks legit, lots of options, I customized the baskets to include exactly what I wanted, and check out was easy. I selected next day delivery with the idea that all of the baskets would arrive a day before my aunt’s visitation as a buffer, as the recipients were going home out of town immediately after. A day after the baskets were scheduled to be delivered, I received a notification indicating my baskets were with a driver and was provided a tracking number and his contact information. By 8:30pm the baskets hadn’t arrived, so I contacted the driver. He said the baskets were supposed to be in his car, but Hazelton’s never gave them to him. I tried contacting Hazelton’s many times via phone, email and chat on their website to no avail. I indicated that the recipients were heading home out of town and if I didn’t receive the baskets within a few hours, they’d be of no use to me. Furthermore, my order consisted of perishable items (fruit and pies), so a delay impacts the quality. I finally received a generic response from Hazelton’s saying their deliveries are delayed because it’s busy near Easter (not my problem, Easter doesn’t exactly come as a surprise each year) and that per the terms and conditions, no refund would be issued despite a two day delay in delivery. It’s important to note that I was never informed there would be a delay. Finally, after my family members left the city, the baskets arrived. I expected that for $30-$70 in fruit per basket, we’d receive more variety than just apples and oranges (I asked for a variety). They substituted the beer I selected for a cheaper beer, but still charged us for the more expensive one. They also delivered someone else’s basket to my house, and I’m left to track down this person on my own because Hazelton’s doesn’t answer the phone or respond to emails. There’s a reason they have an F rating on Better Business Bureau. I’m astonished at Hazelton’s poor customer service and slimy business practices. Don’t be fooled by the 4-5 star reviews. I strongly encourage you to Google search “CBC Hazelton’s Gift Baskets”, “Trustpilot Hazelton’s” and “BBB Hazelton’s”. I’m not the first person who has had an experience like this. Thank goodness my fruit was in good condition, unlike many others who received rotten/mouldy produce. This company is part of a much bigger conglomerate, The Baskets Group, which also owns Yorkville Gift Baskets, Bro Crates, Hops Collective, Good 4 You Gift Baskets, Gifting Kosher, Heart Thorn, North Pole Company, Toronto Blooms and Monthly Sommelier. I, like many others, have had a nightmare of an experience. Do yourself a favour and order from a smaller, local gift basket / floral company. No, there’s not as much selection as you’ll find on Hazelton’s website or one of their sister companies, but at least you’ll deal with an honest company and know you’re getting what you pay for. If you’re determined to use Hazelton’s, do yourself a favour and read the terms and conditions first. Be ok with them, because if ANYTHING goes wrong with your order (likely), they’ll use the terms and conditions to their advantage.

Very meh

Bf ordered me a gift basket for my birthday. The cake truffles were very dry and so was the oreo cake. The chocolate bars were good. I will say I did not experience any issues with delivery like those described below: it was timely, nicely packaged, and nothing was damaged. However the quality of the cake was just not good.

DO NOT TRUST UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

I want everyone to know what an absolutely horrible experience I had. I live in NYC and because of the coronavirus, I was unable to be in Toronto for my only niece's first birthday. So I decided to scrape together some money (when my company just laid off 75% of the workforce and I could be in the next round) because I wanted her to have something from me. I chose a flower arrangement and 6 cupcakes. The package was never delivered. They claim the delivery was attempted at 2:57pm on Monday afternoon, but no one was there. My family was absolutely home and said that no one came to the door. Where are they going to go- with a one year old- on the middle of a global health crises?! Further, no attempt was made to contact us. I know this for a fact bc I have them MY telephone number and there are absolutely no missed calls. So the NEXT AFTERNOON I get an email from their customer service letting me know AND telling me I had to pay an additional $14.99 for a second delivery attempt!! Meanwhile the cupcakes and flowers are already a day old! I responded and no one answered. Until Wednesday, so now the flowers and cupcakes are TWO days old, and they tell me I now have to pay an additional $40 !! Needless to say, I am absolute irate. I have never, EVER experienced such a horrible customer service experience in my lifetime. I am so, so sad that my niece never received her presents from me when I couldn't be with her. And, it's not a good moment for anyone to be spending the money, so I'm concerned about that too. I cannot pay the additional $40 so this is all going to waste. This company should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for treating customers this way. Clearly there was some sort of mistake with this delivery as I can assure everyone that my family was indeed home (we are in the middle of a Pandemic and they have a one year old baby!! DUH) And why didn't this delivery person try to call when he didn't get an answer at the door? Do not depend on this company. They will disappoint you and then tell you it's your fault and try to make you pay more money.

Buyer BEWARE!!

Buyer BEWARE!!! Do NOT order from this company. I ordered a birthday cake for a loved one in quarantine and it arrived a few days late after I paid extra for the shipping. The cake was dropped and smashed... Call customer service and they said sorry but nothing they will do for me. This is such a waste of money. Call your local bakers. This company does not care about good customer service. Save your money...…...

This has been the most frustrating ordering experience I have ever had in my life. I am currently reporting them to the Consumer Bureau of Canada. Save your time and do NOT order anything from this “company” that does not answer phone calls or respond to emails.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. Hazelton is the worst company I have ever experienced in my life. I ordered a basket to be delivered in New York to a friend who got engaged. I paid for next day shipping but it was only sent 4 days later. When she received it, it was completely destroyed. I immediately messaged customer service asking for a refund. They asked if I wanted another basket sent, I said no because the occasion had passed. I sent them an email as they requested with pictures of the destroyed basket. I heard nothing back. I then got a message from my friend saying she received a second, even MORE DESTROYED basket. Very embarrassed that my good friend was sent not 1, but 2 completely destroyed baskets with smooched strawberries everywhere. It has been months since I asked for my refund. I have called and email over a dozen times. No one responds to my emails. Every time I call I am told a different excuse as to why my refund hasn't been processed yet, "but they are working on it". First it was the "shipping department" I had to wait for, then it was the "complaint department". Yet I speak to the same person every time I call, no matter which "department" I am directed to. I would consider this business to be negligent, unprofessional and even criminal. I have wasted so much time trying to get my money back and at this point I am being flat out ignored. I plan on reporting this business because as a consumer I have rights which are protected by Canadian law. Do not order from this company. Save your money, and more importantly, save yourself the giant headache.

Do not order from this company!!!

I would give zero stars if I could. Horrific Product and customer service! This company does not care about their customers at all. I ordered some Nanaimo bars from them with 5 day delivery. When they came, they were warm and mushed together. This is an item that requires refrigeration. When I pointed that out to them they said that I should have known that it wouldn’t be kept cold and I should have ordered one day shipping if I was concerned. The customer service rep refused to tell me if they’re still safe to eat, or provide an ingredient list for the item. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, health Canada and will be contacting my credit card company. They literally don’t care about their customer at all! Buyer beware! This company is not only unethical and incompetent. They also do not follow any of the packaging requirements or food safe practices in Canada which require the nutritional information, weight, company contact information and ingredient list. No ethical company would mail their product knowing it will be spoiled by the time it arrives to the customer. Truly shameful! Don’t waste your money!

Avoid at all cost!

Their customer service operators are a joke! I ordered two gift baskets on 29 February 2020 for delivery to Japan and after querying the order status, I was advised twice that the item had been delivered on 22 February, which obviously wasn't correct! After making an international phone call to the company at 5:15 am due to the time difference, the only option to speak to someone was to select "order", and the woman I spoke with was very curt and kept interrupting me. After the baskets were delivered 3 days after the requested date, only 3 of the 6 items were in each basket. No notification was made about the missing items. I immediately contacted the customer service dept again and requested the matter be immediately escalated to a manager, which didn't happen. The cs rep kept giving a standard templated reply stating that their T&Cs allow items to be substituted and I kept telling them that substitution doesn't mean omission. I asked for the missing items to be delivered or a refund given, but this hasn't happened, and after reading other online reviews I know that this won't happen. I've requested a credit card charge-back and will report this company to the Federal Trade Commission. I've posted this review on the Hazelton's website but I bet it won't be published because there aren't any reviews lower than 3-stars. I wish I had read all these reviews before placing my order!

The site advertised Purim hamantaschen cookies. These are cookies made for the Holiday of Purim. They sent a picture of the correct item in the confirmation BUT, instead they sent chocolate chip cookies. They refused to provide any credit and said they have the right to make substitutes. Yes, reasonable substitutes. But substituting a maple tree for a Christmas tree or a carnation for a poinsettia is not a fair or reasonable or acceptable substitution. I believe they never had the product in the first place and were advertising a Bait and Switch. Shame on you Hazelton's

R Pending Rosaria Paonessa 1 Star Rating not 5!!!! A children’s balloon was sent instead of the group of balloons I paid for! My daughter turned 24 and the Mylar balloon wasn’t even recognizable! I was so embarrassed! The packaging was not nice either, expected a basket or container for the mug and wine bottle! Emailed them and never got a reply for my credit since I didn’t get the bunch of balloons I paid for! I will never order from them again nor let my family or friends order from them! Very frustrating experience

The gift basket I ordered as a housewarming present arrived to the recipients rotten and moldy, and did not arrive on the scheduled delivery date I had requested (well in advance). I contacted customer service to see how they could help rectify the situation and received no help, only frustrating correspondence. I will never use this company again and actively discourage anyone else from doing so as well.
