Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

LOYALTY and Presidential ownership mean nothing to MVCI…

After 31 years of ownership at a high level I have lost complete faith in Marriotts commitment to Customer satisfaction and doing the right thing. After 2 yrs of trying to get over 6000 point the equivalent to 1-2 weeks of vacations reinstated even reaching out to the Executive offices. I no longer feel like anything more than a payment and will be looking to replace them with a vacation company that respects loyalty and customer satisfaction

Worst company

Worst company. Found out my timeshare is being foreclosed on after I got a call from Marriott trying to add points to my account. I had no idea. Took hours to get to the bottom of it because they had my wrong address even though I changed my address on the MVC website on my account. They said I had to call in directly to change my address because the property was in my Trust. Makes no sense since I set up my account online and can book online with my properties. They said they had mailed me all the info but didn’t have any other contact info. Funny since they had my phone number to call to try to sell me more points. This is such a scam. I used to be a huge Marriott supporter. I have over 500,000 points currently at their hotels I can use. I’ve never come close to foreclosing on anything and never late on any payments. It’s just wild. To top it all off they will only send an email to tell me how to reverse the foreclosure process. Said it would be 2 business days. That was 10 days ago. They probably want it to go to Foreclosure. Wish I never bought it. Such a scam.

I purchased in Hilton head a year and a half ago and deeply regret the decision. Not only do the maintenance fees go up year over year. They also are very difficult to deal with. On a recent trip we had to cancel, which I recognize I forfeited the points for the room, but the issue was I purchased tickets for Epcot with points and expected either to get the tickets or reimbursed the 600 points. I was told that I had forfeited those points as well which I do not agree with. After trying relentlessly with customer service to get an answer I reached out to the sales person that sold us the package. He agreed with my logic, and tried also to reverse a decision to no avail. I have been a loyal Marriott member for 20 years and quite frankly I am disgusted with the situation. I am currently trying to figure out an exit strategy. I recommend to buying in to MVC.

83% gave 1 star and could have been 0 star. This is telling that a lot of people are not happy at all. So you pay 2K+ annual maintenance and might not get what you want when you want. That $2K+ annual fee is almost enough to cover a week of vacation anywhere in the US and plenty for Cancun so why bother paying Mariott $25K to start/own the time share. If you only take vacation one or twice a year then it is not worth the money. If you are constantly out on vacation then maybe the time share is right for you, but then the time share does not allow you that many weeks per year. Many people are selling their time share online for $1 to get out of the contract.

I would give it 0 stars if I could

I would give it 0 stars if I could. First of all they never added on new destinations like they promised when they sold us the points. Second problem I can never get the locations I want because it's always booked when I try. Third problem the fees are over $2,000 a year. Fourth problem is now it cost so many points to book a stay that I can only book several nights I don't have enough points to book a week. Some destinations charge 800 or more points a night when a few years ago it was 300 points a night. DON'T BUY THE MARRIOT POINTS!!!

DON'T BUY ANY WEEK OF THE MARRIOT…

DON'T BUY ANY WEEK OF THE MARRIOT VACATION CLUB! I've owned a week for 30 years. I miss one deadline and they took my points for the year away saying it is in the contract that they can do this AND they said they sent a reminder email. We never received a reminder email. We never received an email that said they took our points. I don't know how they can run a company like this. The amount we pay per year is substantial compared to what we get. I look at this like buying a gift card. The company you buy the card from should never allow the card to expire. You pay good money for the card. Same with a week with the Marriott Vacation Club. UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING. There have been other issues of frustration over the years. I believe I have some kind of PSTD when dealing with my week and Marriott. Very stressful. Don't buy it!

Marriott sham(e)

My wife and I, loyal Marriott customers for decades and Bonvoy Lifetime Titanium Elite members, are beyond frustrated by Marriott's deceptive sales tactics. We were pressured into purchasing a timeshare at Ko Olina Beach Club in Oahu and the Pulse Hotel in New York City, with promises that turned out to be blatant lies. The sales meetings in both locations were misleading and manipulative, and we spent over $30,000, along with a $33,000 loan balance, without receiving any of the promised benefits. Despite attempting to recoup our losses, we found there was no viable resale market. The COVID-19 pandemic further hindered our travel plans, making it nearly impossible to use the purchased points, yet we were expected to continue paying maintenance fees and mortgage payments, but barred from traveling. The accommodations at the Pulse Hotel was far from the advertised standards, and it appears we were subjected to a bait and switch type of deal. Our trust in Marriott has been irrevocably damaged, and we believe the only way to rectify this situation is to rescind our contract and reimburse us for our expenses. This experience has left us bitter with a brand we once held in high regard.

Run, don't walk from MVC.

Run, don't walk from this company. They show you all these wonderful benefits of vacation properties but when you try to use the points you've purchased, good luck! You'll never get to use them at all these wonderful places. Oh, you'll be paying their real estate taxes for them every year. I did attend another sales presentation after already being a member to find out what they would say. Guess what? I was told that my basic membership was worthless and I should invest another $60,000 and I would be able to book any great property anywhere in the world. They fooled me once, but not twice. Save tens of thousands and save up for a vacation that you can actually book yourself. Marriot Vacation Club just as well may be called one of the greatest scams of our time. The fact that I have been an elite Marriott Bonvoy member for years makes me sick. Hilton, here I come.

Marriott is the biggest modern-day…

Marriott is the biggest modern-day scam! I received an email for 5 days/4 nights for $269, with the choice of receiving 15,000 Marriott points OR a $100 gift card to Planet Hollywood Restaurant. When I called to book it, the agent NEVER mentioned I’d be required to attend a sales pitch. During the presentation I asked if this was for a timeshare because it sure seemed like a timeshare presentation. They consistently said it was NOT a timeshare, but vacation ownership. They told me that I would be paying monthly membership dues, but my credit report says otherwise, it’s an actual mortgage and there are a lot of undisclosed fees, high interest rates and a maintenance fee I am required to pay, whether I am able to travel or not. Don’t buy into the decades long reputation that Marriott has build because their timeshares are an absolute scam and worthy of this 1-star review!

How To Provide The Worst Customer Service

The company excels in failing being easy to do business with. The phone tree is the worst I have ever used. They sent me a form to authorize a family to use one of my weeks. The form does not populate on and iPad. The web site required me to change my password. I changed it only to be told my user name was incorrect. When I attempted to recover the user name the site told me I had to change the password. When I called in for help I was told the system was down for maintenance (in the middle of a week day). I said I just changed my password the rep said no you just think you did, try again tomorrow. I expressed my frustration and he said “let transfer you to someone who can help”. He transferred me to the phone tree. I have never experienced such abysmal customer service, unless of course you want to purchase something then their is always some available to assist you.

Absolute Scam

Absolute Scam. Not even associated with Marriot Bonvoy. Just spreading the news to all the newcomers seeing the Bonvoy Vacation Clubs at the Bonvoy locations. DO NOT SIGN UP. They make you go to this waste of time HIGH PRESSURE sales 90 minute presentation and say you are "saving money" You arent. Absolute waste of time. Also after our stay your points do not qualify for a trip according to Marriot Bonvoy. Save your time and money. Stay away from this!

I think it is a scam

I think it is a scam. We were sold a package by the Gold Coast Surfers Paradise Marriot Vacation Club and was advised it would give us 80,000 (equivalent to $1200 I’ve been told by them) Bonvoy points which was supposed to have been credited to our Bonvoy account in Apr 2023 after the package was paid. We are now in Sep 2023 and they keep telling us the points have not yet been credited. When I enquire why it is taking so long, and what could they do to resolve the matter, all they can say is they have resubmitted an email and to wait for another month! So in a month’s time (it’d be 6mths by then) I’m expecting them to tell me they will have to send another request and to wait another month because I have been advised by the manager that there is no way for them to contact Bonvoy except by email only which they’ve been doing the same for the last 6mths. The highest level of management does not have any way to resolve issues with Bonvoy Marriot. I don’t see how buying timeshare in this scheme will offer any great customer service if they can’t resolve a simple issue like this in an efficient and timely manner. I have missed opportunities to use the 80,000 points just waiting for their emails to receive a response from Marriot the last 6 months.

I have been an owner since 2006 and we are at the presidential level which is supposed to stand for something, it does not. I highly recommend that no one purchase time share property. They present it very eloquently, but it’s a misrepresentation. They say you have access to a lot of properties but you don’t as they are never available at least the good and popular ones. I work the system the best I can but customer service is terrible and they simply do not care about their owners. This is coming from a person with 17 years experience of dealing with Marriott Vacation Club. Don’t do it !!!!! Specifically at the price level it’s going for today. It’s outrageous. At this point we are very disappointed.

Marrriott Does Not Take Care of Their Owners

Marrriott failed owners! We were booked into Maui Ocean Club 26 Aug until 2 Sep 2023. The fires in Maui destroyed the west side of the island, and we had to cancel the trip since no visitors were allowed to enter the island due to the declared State of Emergency. Marriott did nothing for us. They put my points which I had saved up for this "once in lifetime" visit in a holding account which has to be used by 31 Dec 2023. Why wouldn't they just move the points to 2024 or at least out 6 months so we can find another opening in our schedule and find a vacation spot to go to. Other hotels and even airlines returned full refunds or extensions. They didn't just give a Marriott lecture on "you should have bought insurance." And if they have opened up the timeshares as requested by the Governor to house residents affected by the fire then the payments they are receiving from the government is indeed "double-dipping"; shame on them.

Escaped Marriott's Vacation Club Membership Presentation

Concierge began hounding me the minute I left check in process. Everytime she saw me she kept insisting I come to the presentation, even lied about being off the next day so I needed to decide. Kept increasing hotel credits to persuade me. Had me promise to only say ok to her and not any of the others. Once I exited the building from the side leading to the parking lot (feeling like I needed to sneak out to avoid her). She came running out the front doors and called out to me as I made it down the driveway (how she saw me had no idea). Ran up to me outside the hotel, down the driveway, and said I needed to come back in to the presentation. Kept saying I had somewhere to go and she kept insisting I come back into the hotel (unbelieveable). Agreed to come back inside. That's when she proceeded to let me know I needed an annual salary of $100k, a credit card, and my driver's license which she fail to mention before. Next she proceeded to take me to the clearance person who verified I had my id and credit card. Clearance person proceed to send sales rep (someone who looked like me of course) to come get me. 95 min presentation ended up being 3 hours. It was all staged. As the sales person began to get close to the end of the presentation, another man showed up as if listening in and who the sales person introduced as his boss. He let's the boss know everything that had been presented thus far. Boss calls him a nice guy and leaves. Presentation over and boss comes back and pretends the incentive for closing costs would have to be approved by corporate and wasn't guaranteed unless corporate approved. So why did sales person promise it as an incentive for signing today????? Sales person came up with reason to step away, leaving me and the boss. Boss asked what I did for a living, Upon hearing my response he proceeded to disclose he's had symptoms since his wife died and was put on an antidepressant which he's been taking for years now. Went on to say when he misses his meds for 4 days he has symptoms. Wanted to know my thoughts about it. Long story short, boss leaves and sales person comes back. Now sales person gets ok from boss to include closing costs. Sales person stated he would need my passport for quicker transaction but drivers license will do--it just takes longer. Since I had already mentioned I need to think about the offer, and since that escalated to more pressure, I mentioned I need to go get my passport. Thinking this would be the end of it since I wasn't coming back, the sales person called my room numerous times and then proceeded to knock on my door numerous times (unbelieveable). Of course, I didn't answer either one. $15,000 for 37,000 points and $861 annual HOA fees for one week at the most at one of their properties. It was all staged and very inappropriate to chase a guest the minute after checking in, hound the guest til the guest feels a need to sneak out the hotel, to come to the guest's room, and to disclose specific details of mental health issues. And to be captivated for 3 hours is just absurb and absolutely unacceptable, I feel violated. Just wanted to post my experience.

Marrriott has failed their owners!!!

Marrriott has failed their owners!!!! We were booked into Maui Ocean Club Sept. 6 to Sept. 16. We own at the Maui Ocean Club, purchased many years ago. We go to the property every other year. and this year were taking our son and his family. Since the Maui fires devistated the west side of Maui we had to cancel our trip. What did Mariott do for us? Gave us an Intraval International certificate worth NOTHING!! We can't get back into Hawaii with it!! We also own a time share with Hilton and had to cancel that property as well. Hilton gave us back ALL our points and moved them into 2024, no questions asked. That is how you satisfy your customers. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THE PURCHASE INTO MARIOTT. MY RECOMMENTATION IS TO PURCHASE HILTON.

Run far away

We bought our vacation club membership in November 2018. You wont believe it but this is the 1st time we managed to use it from 26th to 30th Aug. It was forced usage or we lose the points. Besides C-19 in 2020 til 2022 we never could get any of the properties available. The worst is you actually have to call their call center to book. In todays age of the internet their app is only for points check and to see where their properties are. It is a terrible experience. All I can advise is DONT fall in the trap and ever buy it. Let the sales person talk as much as they want, just run. Use your money for your own holidays. The company is all for their own benefit and nothing for the consumer.

Cancellation of Maui vacation

We gave our son & his new wife our Marriott timeshare points for his honeymoon. Five of those days were booked in Maui. As others have also mentioned. The horrific fires made it impossible to go there. Our hearts go out to the people of Maui. Those points should have been returned to us without any restrictions. Instead we must use them this year and book within 60 days. It will be very difficult for us to get away any more this year and there is very little availability. We own 3 weeks of timeshares and we stay in Marriott properties any time we travel. We are very loyal to the brand. This is no way to treat a loyal customer.
