Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

Marriott is a horrible company.

Marriott is a horrible company. When they sold us the timeshare, they said we could sell it back to them, if there were ever any issues. Now, we’ve been arguing with Marriott for a year trying to get out of this. The only option Marriott suggests is foreclosure. In August 2022, I spoke with Cantrell Balbickram who referenced not paying the payments for 120 days and surrendering the deed. Then in November 2022 I spoke with Jamie at MVC and she said the only thing we could do is a deed in lieu of foreclosure after a 120 days absence of payment. Everyone I spoke with last year told us the same 4 months spiel. No other options were available which is very disappointing and unethical to say the least. We were lied to and unable to sell it back as we were sold on. Now, Marriott wants us to risk our credit by suggesting we do not pay for 120 days. How is that fair or legal Marriott should have reasonable and ethical options for us. Due to my husband’s unforeseen debilitating physical condition coupled with the ongoing increasing financial burden, we cannot keep this property. Marriott knows this is a hardship that we cannot sustain. We have even offered to work out a settlement to pay off the loan to be able to get out of this, but nothing is moving forward. Marriott needs to get back to us with some sort of resolution asap.

Marriott Vacation Club screwing over those with Maui reservations

Maui is in tough shape, with the government saying not to even come to the island. The catastrophe is terrible and I feel very bad for the residents and will be sending a donation. Unfortunately reservations with the Maui Ocean Club resort for August and probably September are canceled. MVC is making people use their points by the end of the year and you cannot make reservations till within 60 days. So essentially nothing is available. I cannot believe there is no relief to be able to book something. We paid 35k for our resort years ago, and are paying $1500 each year to be treated this poorly. I’m beginning to think the points program is a complete scam. I would never buy this again. Totally disgusted and disappointed with MVC’ s handing of this problem. Airlines waived fees and issued credits. MVC gives the middle finger.

Hotel in Maui closed. Points put in holding acct!

During pandemic I had covid and had to cancel. Points were put in a holding account making them worthless. Now we have a trip to Maui on Sept 30 and received a letter from the hotel saying don’t come. Governor issued no unnecessary travel. Toxins in the air (I have COPD). We did not cancel. The hotel told us not to travel. Once again putting the points in a holding account. This is theft of service! We should have the full value of the points since the hotel is not available.

I purchased a timeshare with Marriott…

I purchased a timeshare with Marriott Vacation Club in 2017, and in one in 2018. I may have used it a total of 3 times. Some time ago, I discussed with Marriot about taking the timeshare back and they refused to unless it was paid in full. This was not explained to me. Math does not add up for getting the number of points that you need. Booking is not easy and takes a long time. All Marriott wants is to sell for more points and get more money. No one is listening to me and trying to help me out of these contracts. I am tired of paying for something I do not want and cannot benefit from.

Expensive but great values over time

Member for 15 years. Well worth the initial cost. It takes 10 to 15 years to come out a head after initial cost, If you just use the points at the resort and off season you really come out a head

Business built on lies and deception.

We have been owners since 2000 and have slowly built our vacation portfolio over the years to the point we are at Chairman Level( highest) Overall we have enjoyed our experiences(pre- Marriott takeover), but lately our treatment has been poor. Especially with their position on the Maui wildfires, and the return/restriction of our points. It’s as though the entire company wakes up every morning and says “How can we F$&@k our customers over today? What lies can we tell to sell more worthless properties/points.” This is not a sustainable business model imho; look at their 2q financial results. Horrible performance in a recovering sector. Look closely at this company before drinking the time share kool aid. If you go to a presentation, ask for everything/promises in writing. Signed by a manager. Lots of turnover. Lastly take a look around their parking lot. Guarantee they all drive nicer cars than you do.

Maui Wildfires - Westin Ka’anapali…

We have a vacation at Westin Ka’anapali staring on Sept 2, 2023. With the absolutely tragic events and the message from local government to cancel non-essential travel. I contacted Marriott Vistana to cancel the travel. All that they offer is to provide the points back with restricted access. Their suggestion was that we should purchase insurance the next time. Their official position is that it is business as usual and that they cannot control acts of this type.

I love my ownership!!

I have been an owner for 5 years now, and what i read on here is crazy. I never had a problem booking my vacations. Since the ownership our vacations have only improved and my kids really enjoy all of the resorts. I recommended my family as well as my friends to get into ownership because it is saving us so much money and is a huge peace of mind that our vacations are taken care of. Have never met an owner on properties that are not happy! I am very happy with my ownership!

Customer service is terrible

Customer service is terrible. No phone support. The only thing they are helpful with is telling you how to pay their fees. And the whole deal is a rip-off. Save your money and just pay for hotels outright. And don't let them prey on your elderly parents! Marriot should be ashamed of itself

Hospitality and customer services lacking

The packages that they offer for you to “try” their services are full of hidden fees or you will end up in a closet. The excellent services provided at Marriott hotels are NOT present with the vacation club. These people at the call center have no customer service skills.

Don't bother, not to be trusted

Was told my vacation package would be beach side hotel. When I went to book turns out the beach is a mile away with no hotel transportation to the beach. No refund available. They will tell you whatever they need to sell a package and move on. Don't waste your time and money

I am DISGUSTED with Marriott

I am DISGUSTED with Marriott! I have been a member since 1995, but in recent years, this company has turned my life upside-down. The points are over inflated and not worth what the salespeople told us, making reservations very difficult, usually impossible, to obtain. I was told I could use points to pay maintenance fees, but it’s not true. My points are doubly worthless! Maintenance fees also increased by $1000 this year, which I now know I have to pay out of pocket. This is what I will leave my family when I pass away! Before I upgraded, I was fairly happy with my timeshare. Now I feel nothing but disappointment, regret, and disgust. Even more so because I have reached out to Marriott to tell them I am not pleased and outlined all the lies we were told. They responded that they had followed their procedures, and essentially, we have no recourse. That is not true, poor customer service, and an insult.

If I could leave a zero star review

If I could leave a zero star review, I would. Michael Palagi, Sales Executive at Marriott, pressured us for almost 4 hours to make a purchase with them despite our desire to end the meeting. Eventually we ended up purchasing points thinking it would be a great way to enjoy family vacations in some specific spots we wanted to go. Throughout the sales pitch, Michael made it sound very easy to use our points to book at any of the resorts in the inventory. Boy, was he wrong. We’ve paid a significant amount to Marriott since 2019 and received almost nothing in return. We have not even been able to use our points to travel because every time we have tried to book a trip using them, we have been advised there is no availability. We’ve checked frequently on their website for availability, yet nothing is ever available. I am convinced the reason I can’t find anything available is because Marriott sells their rooms to non-owners on travel sites accessible by anyone and those sites end up getting priority over their paying owners. In fact, I have researched this a number of times when I was unable to find availability through the Vacation club and found each time that I could book the same resort through a travel site if I wanted to. Marriott also told us they had a buyback program, but when I inquired about this, they told me I first had to pay off the loan, then they would take it back with no compensation to me. I am extremely disappointed that Marriott would use the idea of availability to entice people to purchase and then act in this manner when it turns out their representations about availability were untrue.

I wish I could leave less than 1 star

I wish I could leave less than 1 star. I am absolutely disgusted with their lies. Try it, call a few times in a row and ask the same question and you will get a different answer. My story is similar to most that I tried to book a vacation and was lied to about availability altho my request is 10 months out. First they said their “inventory is not available yet and to call back on friday when their inventory gets replenished” when i called back next friday morning “the story was that their are now fully booked and their inventory was there all along” they seem to be okay to lie. I am a brand new “potential” customer that only purchased a “try and see for 5 nights” with a $199 deposit + $1500 to pay upon booking. I must have a guardian angel looking out for me as I only lost $199!! Keep it- I am walking away.

MVC... A Disaster built with Omissions & Deception!

Marriott's timeshare program has been a complete disappointment and an exploitative scheme. We have been paying members for almost a decade, yet we've only had three sub-par vacations to show for it. The staff's promises of luxurious getaways at beaches and ski resorts were nothing but empty lies. Instead of addressing our concerns about availability, we were continuously pressured to purchase more points. The lack of transparency is appalling. We were never provided with a public offering statement, information about loan interest rates, or details regarding increasing maintenance fees. The most appalling thing they neglected to mention was that the contract would be forced upon our heirs without their consent. This to me equates to a type of indentured servitude. This deliberate omission at best is dishonest and deceitful. The sales presentation we attended was a nightmare. We were crammed into a small room and subjected to confusing jargon, convoluted graphs, and manipulative tactics. The representative brushed off our questions and misled us about the monetary value of the points, urging us to think of them as "memories." The pressure to buy was relentless, with threats of price hikes if we didn't succumb. Booking vacations with our points was a headache, with constant unavailability and the absurd requirement of booking a year in advance. The quality of the accommodations deteriorated with each visit, resembling standard hotel rooms rather than the premium experiences we were promised and had been paying for. Just recently we sent a letter addressing these concerns and asking them to cancel our contract. Their reply was basically " you signed the contract, too bad." As senior citizens, we would like to warn everybody about their fraudulent programs. Marriott's once-trusted name has been tarnished by this dishonest and manipulative operation, and it's time for them to rectify the situation and compensate those they have taken advantage of.

Discrimination and Poor Service: A Disappointing Review of Marriott Vacation Club Grande Vista

My recent experience with Marriott Vacation Club membership was incredibly disappointing. Not only was I denied the presentation solely because I am divorced, but Courtney Cox's involvement was limited to scheduling the meeting, providing a poor service experience. The discrimination I faced as a divorced individual is completely unjustifiable. Upon arrival, it became clear that my marital status was the sole reason for being denied the presentation. Such exclusionary practices are deeply disheartening and reflect a disregard for equal treatment and respect. Additionally, the limited involvement of Courtney Cox further added to the disappointment. While she scheduled the meeting, her contribution was lackluster and did not align with the expectations set. This poor service experience left me feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. Marriott Vacation Club's discriminatory treatment and Courtney Cox's underwhelming involvement highlight significant issues with their approach. Discrimination based on personal circumstances should never be tolerated, and customers deserve a high standard of service when engaging with any company. Based on this distressing encounter, I strongly advise against considering Marriott Vacation Club for their membership offerings. Their discriminatory practices and inadequate service delivery are unacceptable. Instead, I encourage individuals to support businesses that prioritize inclusivity, fairness, and exceptional customer service. In conclusion, my experience with Marriott Vacation Club was marred by discrimination and poor service. The denial of the presentation solely based on my divorced status, coupled with Courtney Cox's limited involvement, was deeply disappointing. As consumers, we should actively choose companies that uphold ethical values and provide a superior service experience to all customers, regardless of their personal circumstances.
