Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

Wake up everyone

Wake up everyone, Vistana, Sheraton, Marriott Timeshares will drain you financially and emotionally. Our regretful affiliation with Vistana is in its sixth year; and we cannot put an end to it fast enough. We were enticed by a generous offer – a $100 prepaid credit card to be used at Universal that day. This innocent act led us to a high-pressure sales scheme where we were deceived into purchasing a Vistana, what we understand now to be a timeshare. It is important to note that the salespeople repeatedly assured us that they were not selling timeshares! The pressure intensified when a Senior Sales Manager of Sheraton Vacation Club joined the conversation to offer further discounts. Feeling cornered and pressed for time, we reluctantly agreed to the deal, under the inaccurate impression that we could easily sell the property if we changed our minds. Little did we know that this decision would lead to a series of frustrating and disappointing experiences over the subsequent years. From 2018 to 2020, we encountered countless difficulties in finding available destinations. Despite promises of varied and exotic locations, our searches yielded only limited options, mostly centered around Orlando. To salvage our investment, we had to pay additional fees to transfer points to the next year, only to find that the availability issues persisted. Overall, dealing with your company has been a never-ending headache. We have been subjected to hostile sales meetings complete with pushy, rude salespeople who will stop at nothing to ensnare us in whatever scheme they have concocted. This type of behavior is horrendous, and you should be ashamed for allowing and encouraging such blatant deception. Consumers need to be aware that the language used emphasized exclusivity, is simply a lie, this is a timeshare without value past, present or future.

The Owner advocate is not for the owners

I reserved rooms at a Marriott Vacation Club and changed the dates. The reservations showed up on the Marriott Vacation Club website but then suddenly disappeared. I call to report this and they stated it was a glitch in the system. When I went to cancel the rooms two days before I thought what the reservation date was, I was told that I couldn't do it because the room reservations were for that same day. The changes that I made did not go through but I was not able to confirm that because the rooms were not listed on their website even though other reservations that I had were. I spoke to three people to complain and not one of them took the blame for anything or offered any compensation. I've had it with Marriott.

Mis sell and not value for money

I'm an owner for 18 years. Interval are just money draining as is Marriot. The maintenance has doubled since purchased and yet our resort looks shabby and outdated. Plus I could book a week for cheaper than my maintenance fee. They said, they would open a resale office but no sign of that. I would not recommend Marriot vacation club. To even exchange within Marriot you must join interval which is now I believe owned by Marriot. A complete mis sell and rip off.

Exiting of ownership

We owned two wks -1 in July and 1 in Oct. We wanted OUT of both because of age and health. Marriott would "deed back" the wk in July without cost to us and w/o any monetary return. We authorized the Deed back in NoV,2023 and were informed by Cantrell Balbrickram, Exit MGR, that we would received the "closing" papers in 90 days. We authorized the second wk for sales listing and agreed to 1yr for resale. We were quoted a sale of $8600.00 & we would recover 50%. When we were reaching one year time frame, I asked for an update (Nov 18. 2023) Was then advised that the 2nd week had sold in OCT (no notice to us the seller)BUT we must pay the annual maintenance fees for 2024 since the buyer did not want occupancy until 2025. (WHY ??WE ARE NO LONGER THE OWNERS??) WE WERE THEN ADVISED THAT WE ARE STILL THE OWNERS OF WK1!! BECAUSE WE FAILED TOSIGN AND RETURN THE DOCUMENTS SENT TO US. THE DEED BACK WAS CANCELLED ON MAY 5, 2023 We did not received any deed back papers from Marriott, no follow-up to check on the receipt and why not signed, no notice that the process (deed back) would be cancelled. There was no notice that we remained the owners until I inquired in Nov,2023 and requested copies of the closing deed back and notices of the failed transaction. No compliance fromMarriott BUT insteadMarriott sends out a new set of legal documents loaded with all kinds of new requirements including the payment of maintenance fees for 2024 ($1868.51) Next move is to take this up with legal. Mr Balbickram with only communicate by email. If we ask for a phone # for him, he provides a number of a title company. He uses "templates" for emails for legal discussions etc. Bad news

Marriott Vacation Club is a total scam…

Marriott Vacation Club is a total scam and drains you out only to leave you stranded with no vacation but thousands of dollars poorer. I joined 2 years ago and realised that booking a vacation with this program is like pulling teeth. You might as well spend that time, effort and money and go on a vacation of luxury to someplace you want to go. I have tried and tried and i finally cancelled and then i was told i still have my 4 weeks available which i was recommended should be moved to Interval (Another process and scam). Now i have finally booked to go in Feb and Interval is asking me to renew their membership and pay more money to utilize the vacation week i have paid for My 4 weeks have will expire but if i dont want the eeks to expire i have to pay more money ....absurd!!!!

DO NOT DO IT

DO NOT DO IT! YOU ARE WARNED! The Yearly Maintenance fee is more than what you would spend on a great Hotel in Maui $5600. You only have 99 resorts to choose from, this was never told to us, we were lead to believe we could access all resorts for our $96,000. You can in fact trade over to access Bonvoy. I can triad over my 7,000 point to get a slimy 3 nights at a Convoy hotel. Example, The 3 night I get for giving up my 2 room 7 night condo. If I just purchased the Hotel room without this program I would pay $2,395 for the three nights. instead I am paying $5600 fees and the loss of my full week in a two bedroom condo or 2 weeks in a 1 bedroom. The worst part is I was NOT told I only had 99 resorts to choose from and I was told I could go across the board to Bonvoy Hotels. This information was not given to me until I closed escrow and was able to access the site. To make a rotten situation worse I can't even book my 2 weeks in the hotel I want for m6 plus months. Save your Money!!!!!!!

I thought I was the only one but…

I thought I was the only one but obviously there are many who feel the exact same way. Marriott Vacation Club is a total scam and drains you dry only to leave you stranded with no vacation but thousands of dollars poorer. I have been a club member for over 20 years and each year it goes down in customer service and availability. You might as well save the money and go on a luxurious vacation to someplace you want to go. I have tried since January to go away for my birthday which was months ago but nothing ever opened up. My points will expire at the end of this month and I have not gone on a single trip because nothing ever opened up. One of the reps offered me a space in Alabama (just where I want to go after spending thousands of dollars) and even that wasn't available. The maintenance fees are ridiculous and a total rip off!! Some of us should consider coming together to pursue a class action suit for false advertising. Marriott should be ashamed for scamming loyal customers who have relied upon the stellar reputation (from long ago) and trusted the brand for so long.

Timeshare Exit

Hello: Marriott Vacations' timeshare agreement was far from the promised dream. Initially, they used high-pressure sales tactics to sell a "one-day deal" of a perfect vacation package. Now, I'm stuck with escalating, undisclosed maintenance fees and a non-flexible plan with severe restrictions. It's not an investment but a financial trap, causing severe strain on my finances. I strongly urge others to consider the real implications of such agreements. For me, I want an immediate exit from this money-draining contract. My member number is 10266966. Thank You Carol Nurse-Hubbard

Worst experience ever

Worst experience I have ever had. The African American woman at the reception desk is easily the rudest, most arrogant person I have EVER interacted with. If she is there, about 5 foot 8 or 9, half white half African American, choose anyone else to interact with. I was asking simple questions and she gave me sass and told me that she repeated herself. I have loved the city of Boston, she would easily drop my trip a letter grade. I have never, in my entire life, had such a negative interaction about such trivial things. She is the most stuck up person. She is perpetuating all stereotypes. She gives a bad look for the whole business, it’s no wonder the place has a 1 star review. The building is nice, very pretty. I went in with a positive attitude and now my day is ruined, thanks Marriott.

I have been a Marriott Owner for over…

I have been a Marriott Owner for over 20 years and the customer service has gone down the tubes. You can never get the resort room you want during the time you want. Also, if you traded in for points for Marriott hotels, you get approximately three days at a hotel for a week of vacation club points. When we bought the vacation club, they said they would be adding many more Marriott vacation club resorts, which they have never done. They now are part of Bonvoy, which are other vacation clubs, but it cost twice as much points to use the other resorts. Not only that, but the maintenance fees have gone up 25%. we pay $6650 a year for one week every year and one week every other year. I can take a pretty amazing vacation for that amount of money so do not waste your money because the maintenance fees are outrageous and they can just raise the cost 25% Every year if they want. Do not buy Marriott vacation club whatever you do.

The Marriott brand is crumbling behind this type of Marriott vacation club experience

I have provided plenty of dissatisfactory comments during their promotion sessions. I concur with the comments from other reviewers that the past 10 years of bookings were terrible, and membership fees and membership treatments were some of the worst. Couldn't believe this was the same Marriott culture that I bought into 25 years ago.

I am a longtime Marriott customer

I am a longtime Marriott customer. I am a lifetime platinum elite customer. Which means I have spent nearly 4 years in a Marriott bed. I have been very pleased with Marriott and bought into their timeshares. For several years it worked fine. However in the past few years it has become a total SCAM. No one should buy into their programs.

I think Marriott has totally lost the plot in respect of customer service. Having owned Marriott for over twenty years I am now a really dissatisfied owner. You are sold this product which has ended up being no resale value . We have been told so many lies throughout presentations it is unbelievable. We never get the room requested. Never can get the dates requested. No getaways available with Interval another selling point. Points for a week are more than the week traded with Interval which become less and less. Though we have recommended to friends in the past who have bought. It had also worked for us fir so many years. It is sad

One of the worst decisions I’ve made

One of the worst decisions I’ve made. We were owners for over 20 years. The first five were OK and the last five were miserable. Maintenance fees are outrageous. You can actually rent the same on Redweek or VRBO for the same or less money than the maintenance fee with much more inventory availability. I just sold my timeshare and points. Marriott exercised their first right of refusal and paid me pennies on the dollar. Note, I offered to sell it back to them first and they told me it was worth nothing but I could give it back to them. Listen to all these reviews. Timeshares are not a good idea.
