Review summary

Marriott Vacation Club receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from consumers, with many describing their experiences as deceptive and frustrating. Reviewers frequently express dissatisfaction with the sales tactics, claiming they were misled about the nature of the timeshare and pressured into purchases during presentations. Customers report feeling trapped in a system of broken promises and financial manipulation, with many stating that the promised benefits of ownership, such as booking flexibility, are illusory. While some owners appreciate the club's points system and the brand's reputation, these positives are overshadowed by complaints about poor customer service and a lack of support when issues arise. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many urging potential buyers to avoid Marriott Vacation Club altogether.

Sorry no stars less than one

Sorry no stars less than one. Custom “lack of service” had me on hold for over one hour after their superstar of zero professionalism only got to push me off because she had a hold button. On their “ recorded line” I have Keisha being so kurt , dismissive and classless. Let’s face it, can’t buy class and she’ll never have any. I have done very well over the years when they review their recordings. Seems to be a recurring theme. Maybe the Marriott family should pay their employees living wages and not worry solely about their pockets. Yeah Tom call me I have heard from several employees how they are treated. Believe it or not I am very like at locations I vacation at and go as guests. Your places are beautiful but I will take more professional attitudes and a smile over the disgruntled tones and trimmed bushes any day. As usual I am anticipated no response and those like me who have drank the cool aide need to reevaluate their financial commitment and loyalty. There are many other time share companies never mind vacation options and time share escape industries that will help. You know how to contact me so I’ll be waiting…. You sure as heck know how to bill me so bring it on. I am not going away until you do.

Swindlers and will hold you hostage

We purchased a time share and were super excited to share vacations with our family members and save on vacation expenses. In short, we were unable to book at the desired locations (always unavailable), the maintenance fees were ridiculous and ballooned over the years and the customer service was less than helpful. We tried to get out of the timeshare however to have to sell at a low price because no one wants it. Then we missed a maintenance fee (as we paid in full the year previously) and never received a new bill. Come to find out, they foreclosed on our timeshare and no one can help us or come up with a solution. In short, they stole $40k plus maintenance fees. We were swindled and plus don’t let this happen to you.

I recently after many years of saying…

I recently after many years of saying no recently decided to try a timeshare 12 days later called to cancel Marriott said they would look into it. Also I was told I have a year and a half to cancel. Marriott turned out to be a nightmare. Marriott Vacation Club is one of the most underhanded, unscrupulous and untrustworthy companies I have ever came in contact with. Anyone that is thinking about buying a Marriott Timeshare DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! You will be sorry. The sale people are lairs and con artist. Don't even go to the presentation if you don't have to. DON'T Buy!!!

Always Welcomed

As Owners in Marriott Vacation Club my wife and I purchased approximately 5 years ago. Since then we’ve never had a regret. All the resorts we’ve stayed/visited have been welcoming and personal. We’re on are way to St John’s Resort as I write this expecting nothing less.

marriott time share not exclusive

The idea of owning a Marriott timeshare seems appealing initially – luxurious getaways and exclusive perks. However, the reality? Marriott has not been helpful at all when it comes to canceling my timeshare. It's not what I expected. What you think will be exclusive vacations quickly turn out to be full of restrictions, with the so-called "priority booking" being a myth. Plus, these places aren't as private as they say, often open to the public, which means you're not getting the exclusive experience you thought you were. On top of that, the maintenance fees keep going up, making it an expensive dream. And as your family grows and changes, being stuck with the same vacation spots doesn't make sense anymore. We've even tried to cancel our timeshare because it's just not worth it, but getting help from Marriott has been impossible. It's time to think differently about vacation ownership – something that's more flexible, doesn't break the bank, and actually lets you relax without worrying about the next bill or being tied down to the same old places.

I don't know what these people are…

I don't know what these people are talking about. We have been owners in Maui with Vistina and have been very happy. We love being able to convert to MVP points. We live close to Lake Tahoe and just booked 3 days this weekend at 30 percent off. We just got back from Los Cobos Baja Point again at 30 percent off which was wonderful. We are going to Marbella Spain in October. I agree that booking Hawaii in the summer can be a challenge but if you start a year ahead of time you can book it. The downfall are the maintenance fees which have increased a little over 12 years but that's about it.

Marriott Vacation Club is a Moving Target

I was duped into spending $199 for a 4-day, 3-night stay in Hilton Head, SC. When I finally got a chance to book my stay, there were no dates available in Hilton Head at the original property identified so they looked at a few others and offered stays not on my desired timeline + they wanted me to pay an additional $250+ for the 3 night stay. The point of the $199 was that it was an intro rate to the vacation club that required a 90 minute sales pitch, the reduced rate I thought was an opportunity to explore the club. I won't be touching anything Marriott Vacation Club with a 10-foot pole moving forward. The agent was really not interested in helping or extending the dates. They have my $199 and I have nothing to show for it. Be careful everyone!

They upped my maintenance fee this year…

They upped my maintenance fee this year by over $300. I was so stupid I bought points. The points didn’t increase just the $$ this year and it can increase every year. Plus you are locked into those maintenance fees for Life no matter how expensive they are. If you don’t pay they said they will put a foreclosure on your credit and ruin your credit. Don’t be stupid enough to believe the lies these people tell when they are selling them.

I totally regret buy Marriott Vacation…

I totally regret buy Marriott Vacation Club. They sell you on a lot of things that they don't actually honor. Total bait and switch. I set autopay for our loan and they send keep sending me collection notices. After calling in to get our payment info corrected on their end they still send collection notices. Marriott doesn't have it put together like a real company. As a busy business owner I have to chase down the right people to get things corrected. Oh and, the way we asked them to set up ownership on the account is totally messed up and not how we asked the to set things up. My recommendation is to not buy from them.

Consumer Affairs Marriott

We hope that people read about our experience with Marriott before spending a dime on them. Our experience has been underwhelming. A lot of promises were made, but those promises were a part of the scam! From the ability to use our timeshare for rental income, to the affordability of this venture, everything that was a promised benefit turned out to be all lies! This all began in August of 2022 while staying at the Steamboat Springs Sheraton Resort. Upon checking in, we were told we were required to attend an owner’s update. At this presentation we were told by the salesman that Marriott Vacation Club and Vistana had merged, and this merger enabled us to join Marriott Vacation Club at an executive level. We had no intent of upgrading/purchasing anything, but the salesman wouldn’t take no for an answer and continued to pour on the pressure. We asked for time to think over the offer, but he insisted that we had to make a decision immediately. Our salesman told us we could rent out the timeshare at peak occupancy times, which would offset the costs of the timeshare. A second salesman told us that we were investing in real estate with all the same benefits that a real estate investment brings. When we raised our concern about the 12% interest rate, they said we could easily refinance our mortgage with our bank, making the entire transaction affordable. To date, we haven’t been able to refinance our mortgage. We can’t find a bank that refinances timeshares. It has been well over a year, and we haven’t been able to refinance OR utilize our Marriott Vacation Club benefits. There has never been availability at the locations we were looking at, and this problem occurred again when we were trying to rent out our timeshare. Availability and earning rental income were the two factors that influenced our decision to buy, and they were just falsehoods peddled by the shady Marriott salesmen to convince us to buy.

This company is built on lies! They get…

This company is built on lies! They get you there(by offering a dinner, $100 gift card,), and then when they have alone with a salesman or two, the lies start- first- this is the best way to vacation! showing great locations. Then the numbers start- high at first: then the "deals " start. Then the manager comes in to offer all the reasons to join. No real descriptions of what this is: a life long commitment to high fees, no real destinations(without buying more-$30,000 and up!), the fact that you own nothing but a promise of a the POSSIBLE use of their property! My experience was so bad we caved into buying(after 5 hours-the Gustapo would be proud!). WE left and called to get out, but were told we waited to long- they never said we only had 10 days. We've tried to call the "EXIT" office, and were told we had to pay the entire $20,000 first and then they would release us! A$50,000 cost for a weeks vacation- with no promise of getting the location of week we wanted! Shame on them!!!

Leaving Marriott

Unfortunately, I have to add myself to all of these terrible reviews. After 20 years of ownership, I'm getting out. I wouldn't know where to start... I was hoping to finally get my money's worth out of it in my retirement years, but the service, quality and value aren't there (anymore). And I'm even more disappointed now that I'm trying to exit. Sadly, I have not a single positive comment.

Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Abound

If I could give zero stars I would. Marriott ripped us off 28,000.00 for a timeshare we can’t book and charge us 3800.00 a year for taxes and maintenance was only 900.00 when we started. This is a complete rip off and if I can save one person from the financial suicide this has caused in my life that’s good. Run far away and don’t go to any free vacations they offer. They change the plan on you despite having a contract.

A Real Money Pit...

Our experience with Marriott Vacation Club has been a disaster. We were hood-winked into our timeshare contract due to misrepresentation, dishonesty, and deception. We would not be in this predicament if their salespeople had a shred of honesty while dealing with us, but unfortunately that has not been the case. At every turn they lied to us about availability, as well as the total cost of this endeavor. We were told that we could rent out the property to help cover the cost of maintenance fees or make extra cash, that we were purchasing real property (untrue), and, finally, we were told that we could make a great deal of money if we rented out our timeshare during sporting events. This claim was made by a salesperson who said he did this with his wife all the time. We were assured that we were purchasing property that could be used as an investment vehicle to earn additional income as well as to take vacations. We finally realized it wasn’t worth the financial strain and we are demanding that our contract be terminated immediately. So far all we are getting is past due notices and attempts to get us on the phone. Frankly at our age, we do not trust that they wouldn’t trap us again, we do not want to sink even further financially. We hope others will see this and choose for themselves vs. being manipulated into a contract with this company. If they cared, they would address these unethical salespeople.

Shame on Marriott Vacation Club

Shame on Marriott Vacation Club and their multiple subsidiaries, they are clearly targeting people in our demographic. My husband and I are elderly retired individuals who have unfortunately become victims of elder abuse. We attended a presentation for Marriott's Timeshare in Las Vegas back in January 2017, and since then, our lives have been filled with disappointment and regret. The presentation itself was an exhausting ordeal, lasting almost four hours. As soon as we walked in, our driver's licenses were taken away, leaving us feeling trapped. We were then ushered into a room with a pushy salesperson who showed us a three-bedroom unit with a kitchen. At the time, we were under the impression that these rooms would be available whenever we needed them or that we could book any Marriott hotel. Little did we know that it was only limited to Marriott's Vacation properties. Throughout the presentation, we felt pressured to sign the documents. After my Husband was supplied a few drinks, everything seemed to go by in a blur. We were not given any explanations or details about what we were initialing on the documents. It was a whirlwind of confusion and manipulation. We have since received threats of poor credit and even the mention of a "lien" if we did not sign and return documents. It continues to be an ongoing and terrifying financial nightmare for us. We have reached out to the CEO of Marriott Vacations to consider our situation with compassion and understanding to help us find a resolution to this nightmare, and to date have been ignored

The lack of assistance from Marriott Vacation Club customer services

From year to year, Marriott Vacation changes it's basic procedures for something as simple as a transfer of right of occupancy for a unit week. Last year (and for a number of years previously), I have been to call and talk to a live person or use an e-mail address for Marriott Vacation Club customer services to make the desired changes. Now, this year, Marriott Vacation customer services makes you have to jump through hoops just to talk to a live person or provide you with a valid, monitored, working e-mail address to effectuate the desired changes!
