I wanted to share my disappointing experience at Nuffield Health in Croydon, particularly regarding the behaviour of a staff member named (While I understand that he may have been enforcing gym policies, his tone, body language, and overall approach felt extremely aggressive—so much so that I genuinely felt intimidated, as if he might physically confront me.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. On a previous occasion, I entered the gym through the disabled access gate, which had been left open, and again his response was unnecessarily rude. I let it go at the time, but it seems to be a pattern.
Beyond this, there have been several issues during family swim sessions. On one visit, I brought my children for a swim and was initially allowed access by a staff member, only to be later informed by another that it wasn’t family swim time. As a gesture, I was given two extra passes, but my children were understandably upset as they were looking forward to swimming.
More recently, we visited again with two adults and five children. One of the children is a confident swimmer, but became too anxious to swim alone after being approached quite abruptly by the same staff member to prove her ability. Ultimately, we had to leave without swimming at all, which was very disappointing for the children.
Additionally, the current family swim schedule does not align well with school timings, making it difficult for families to actually take advantage of the service. It raises the question of how useful these sessions really are.
Overall, while the facility itself may be fine, the staff conduct—particularly Mr () and the poorly coordinated swim sessions have left a negative impression. I’ve been a member of many gyms, often more affordable than Nuffield, but with far more professional and welcoming staff. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this location based on my experience.
