A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

We never received any invoices, either on our on line account or by post. We renewed our tariff on line and spoke to a salesperson in February and March and switched from direct saver 2017 V3 to this years version of the same tariff. However after receiving my bills from many requests we have noticed that we are on an expensive variable rate, and raised a compliant and asked for an investigation to this. We were assured that this will be done. have gone on line to check and we are on a green-saver tariff-something we did not ask for and sign up for. For the past 6 months we have requested a full year statement of usage and account charges from last years 2017 statement, providing fuel used and costs incurred, we have not received this despite promises we will receive it. The way we have been treated and charged for our fuel is very disappointing and request you resolve this within 14 days and provide us with all of the above.

Warning when you leave Economy Energy When you leave Economy Energy they do not automaticallly pay back any overpayment they have taken in direct debits, you have to claim it back. This is surely criminal, all energy companies should pay overpayments back automatically, the energy regulator needs to look at their practices. I have been chasing them for 11 weeks for a refund, and they are just stalling and delaying. Yesterday I got a letter from their Credit Control Department demanding Β£8.37 which a September bill shows I have underpaid for gas and threatening to pass it onto a debt collection agency. This is despite my latest bill (October) showing that they owe me Β£131 .......... this is very worrying and must be criminal. Your operatives lied to me on webchat for weeks saying you did not have my final meter readings so could not prepare my final bills, when the truth is they were sent to you within two weeks of the swap.

My last posting on the 28 June explained that Phill at Economy Energy was going to look into the billing error on my Electricity Bill. Phill did his very best agreeing that my reading was accurate and that he would help me to resolve the dispute with Economy Energy. Alas the disputes dept., Intervened at this point and progress towards resolution stopped. Demands for payment via email and text gathered pace At this point I appealed to the Energy Ombudsman and I'm happy to report that my bills have been resolved. The Ombudsman ruled that Economy Energy should write apologising for poor customer service, accept the reading I submitted (this was 815 electricity units less than EE wanted me to pay) and finally I am to receive Β£50 for goodwill. The experience was not good and reached Kafkaesque characteristics at times. At one time I was offered a new favourable deal just to sign up again! I explained that the poor website along with the lamentable customer service made a new deal out of the question. I'm glad that I'm free from any connection with this company. Could I make a plea to new customers that they wait a month or so after signing up with Economy Energy and have experience of their website operation and customer service before posting a review. Telling the public that Economy Energy can sign you up quickly and handle a largely automatic hand over from one company to another is no review at all. Thank you.

OMG What have I got myself and family into?????? In this electronic automated world why oh why are they unable to send meter reading requests??????????? So they produce a bill based on their outrageous guestimates and they immediately intimidate you by sending sms messages and emails and ringing you up stating you are overdue with your payment BEFORE you get the Bill. So you try and ring them with a meter reading and yes you cant get through!!! So the emails continue, the calls to the mobiles get more frequent. ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE IT SAYS IT TAKES THEM 10 DAYS TO PROCESS A PAYMENT. 10 DAYS>>> It's 2018 for goodness sake. So 5 days ago when they condescended to produce the bill based on my meter reading I paid it by faster payment. So tonight I see an email threatening court action for an unpaid bill and guess what this irresponsible, unresponsive disreputable two bit outfit state on the letter of intent? THE BALANCE WAS Β£0. DO NOT EVER CONSIDER SIGNING UP WITH THIS CROWD. PAY EXTRA WITH A REPUTABLE COMPANY. Ofgem will not get involved. WHY. Because I have not had a reply to allow 8 weeks to elapse from my complaint. Nice and cosy for Economy then!!!!!!!!!!!! So today I see a response requesting I contact them on Webchat. GUESS WHAT????? Nobody responds. I rest my case!!

Avoid at all costs- Economy Energy - the worst company I have dealt with. 13 months of agony with economy energy, followed by 7 months dealing with the fallout. Whatever you are paying for energy...never switch to this company- it will be the worst decision you could ever make! - Constantly incorrect bills - not registering my meter readings sent by text, basing on very inflated estimates, recalculating and overcharging.they also illegally debited my account after the contract had ended! After much chasing, I got them to send a correct bill across for the period -if I had not spotted their error it would have cost me over Β£500 extra! How many innocent people have been overcharged and not spotted these mistakes I wonder.They then try to credit my account, leaving me thinking the agony is over and my account is closed until I then get text messages demanding different amounts! It turns out my final bill was incorrect and they had totally messed up the crediting as well..... then send through a completely different bill......6 months after my account was supposedly closed! I then have to chase for an explanation for this entirely new bill whilst being threatened with the debt collectors coming round! Do not switch to this company - like everyone else says both on here, which? All the sites are saying the same thing. How many negative reviews in the last 24 hours alone! Read the reviews! I wanted to give a small company a go and with a few reviews only available at the time, i was happy to support a plucky company challenging the big 6 - but read the reviews go with a small company at the top, not this one. pay the extra money to go with another company - keep your sanity.

Awful service. Moved home on the 18th Sept and provided my final meter reads on the 19th Sept. It is now the 30th Oct and they have not issued a final bill. The last bill they did was the 14th sept while i was still living at property. Am in credit on elec by Β£16 and gas debit by Β£18. Today I receive a final overdue demand for the Β£18. First off I do not owe them Β£18 as they have Β£16 in credit on my elec. So I do owe them Β£2 as of the last official bill they sent me. However as the final bill date should be 4 days after the last official bill date then i would think it would be more sensible to issue the final and i will settle accordingly. Avoid this company like the plague.. they have no idea how to run a company.

We sold our property and have a credit on our account that we are still waiting for (it was requested three months ago). We are constantly chasing this and each time we are told it will be refunded in 10 working days every single time! Staff have been rude and unhelpful and will never let us speak to a manager or advise of the formal complaints procedure - do not use this company!

Absolutely terrible company. After moving to a new property and switching to another supplier, I called to ask for final gas and electricity bills. I am still waiting 3 months later, because all I've been sent are threatening demand letters and texts for incorrect amounts of money. I cannot discuss the issue via web chat because they don't recognise me as the account holder, I've spoken to customer services several times and I've used their contact form on the website (and got no reply) - and STILL no final bills! I even asked to be put through to their complaints department, but when I spoke to them I was told that I was unable to open a complaint with the complaints team!!! So ridiculous. I have had to email asking to open a formal complaint in the hope that they'll listen. Appalling company - I advise everyone to steer clear. In response to their reply below - I've tried using webchat and was told they were unable to help. So the"helpful" comment below is insulting and a complete lie.

This company are so hard to deal with. They are very quick to chase for 'overdue' accounts despite the fact that the only reason the account is overdue is due to an incorrect opening invoice. I have been trying to get this sorted ever since receiving the initial bill (dated 22nd Aug) but alas I am still waiting for it to be resolved. Apparently it takes 28 days to get a credit note raised, meanwhile chasing emails continue to arrive on a near daily basis. Guess what guys, if you produce the credit note (correctly) then your bill will be paid, its not rocket science!!! One of the Customer Service Managers was going to personally keep on top of my complaint but guess what, I've not heard from him since. That was over 2.5 weeks ago. One thing is certain I will never use Economy Energy again, nor will I recommend them (well only to avoid like the plague). It's a shame as I also sort out energy contracts in my job so we're not talking of 1 contract every year or so but potentially a number of contracts annually. I have never come across such a challenging utility company & I've dealt with a few over the years.
