A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Awful company, been on a 1 year contract, now donβt allow me to leave to a different company as according to then owne Β£200 (which is 4 times more than my calculations). Been told will have to pay double the tariff once contract finishes!! completely stuck atm

Nightmare company. Signed up a year ago for their low prices but began to regret the decision pretty quickly. As other reviewers report, the Economy Energy website is appalling. Despite submitting regular meter readings the website was only updated with them once we left the company! My bills were always based on estimates and no full statements were available . For 9 of the 12 months the website didn't even acknowledge that they provided our electricity despite them happily taking our direct debits and increasing them...still based on estimated readings!! I couldn't wait for the contract to end so i could switch but as our payments were not based on our actual usage I was dreading what the final bill might be?! I am still waiting for the final bill and, based on other reviews, i'm not holding my breath for a smooth exit! It really isn't worth the potential 'saving'.

Economy Energy started charging me an extra Β£70 a month for my services in gas and electric. After calling customer services they cheerfully told me I'd be double charged and that money had come out for periods of time that had already been paid. I gave an updated meter reading and was told the billing team would get back to me 10 working days later. They assured me no money would be taken from my card till sorted. 1 month later... I've been charged an extra Β£70 again and no sign of billings team. I contact live chat and the advisor tells me they'll need to send this issue to the billings team. I tell him this has already happened and that no money was to be taken. He tells me that he can't do anything but send it to the billing team. I ask if this is another 10 working days issue and he tells me he 'can't give me a time frame for this'. I then ask if he can stop any further payments and he says no. I then ask to speak to someone who can provide this and he says no. They'll continue to take my money for a service they haven't provided at my cost until the 'billings team' call me back. Something I doubt will happen anytime soon. To avoid this, I am leaving economy energy - I cannot wait. The customer service assistant was blunt and didn't give a crap about my issue. Please avoid like the plague if you value your money.

Terrible. They are very cheap, but you will then spend months of your time chasing them for refunds on over payments, to which they simply ignore your emails and even official complaints. Much better to go with a proper company, who respond and actually have a clue about whats going on. Next step is ombudsman. Absolute waste of my time.

Never use this company! i am in credit with my account - (i have moved to another provider). Economy Energy have the audacity to send me overdue letters and demanding further payments.! The new provider isn't helping either! left hand and right hand don't know what they are doing. These companies are very quick in taking money very slow in returning it!

Upon selling our house and attempting to close the account we received e mails advising if we didnβt pay what was owed our details would be passed to a debt collection agency. This was less than a week after our last direct debit had been taken. Perplexed I called them, explained and the adviser laughed, advising that they sometimes worked off inaccurate information in the billing team. 3 phone calls later we are still no further along. Shambolic company with staff that clearly havenβt been adequately trained... avoid like the plague.

Customer service: argumentative and inaccurate Letters received: unknown to customer service Responses to queries: Non-existant (I had to chase each time) Costs after first year: not presented until I called them Customer website: worked for about 2 months then stopped Online meter reading service stopped working meaning I had to call them. I was told they were working on it (for almost 10 months!). When phoning you needed to know almost everything about your account before you could actually speak to someone. Online chat system was used on one occasion to provide them with meter reading. I typed the meter readings correctly and they entered it incorrectly on their system resulting in multiple daily calls asking for meter readings I had provided but which were causing a problem. I received text messages about 'time for meter reading' and their Website not working resulted in even more phone calls asking for me to provide it. At one point it was demanded, in no uncertain term, that I had to provide the meter reading, even though I was out of the country at the time of their call. At end of year tarriff term, provided a letter containing a tarriff that the customer service team hadn't heard of. Did not include the 60%+ increase in standing charge (19p/day to 27p/day). Failed to respond to my questions when I was asked to provide the evidence of the letter, meaning I went over to their standard tarriff (some hundreds of pounds more expensive than I was paying) without them being able to do anything about it. Calling up on the day of the tarriff swap they consistently told me there was nothing they could do. Only gave 2 stars because I did get the energy I asked for.

Dreadful outfit. Kept bumping up value of direct debit, putting account way into credit. No reminder of end of fixed price tariff. Emails went were acknowledged but never answered. After I terminated and went elsewhere, they refused to agree meter reading with new supplier until I sent photographs of meters to new supplier. Even though account in credit tried to apply further direct debits. 3 months on and credit balances still not refunded. When I queried this I was told they only refund when demanded by customer, and it will take 28 days from this point. 28 days have now passed and, guess what? Refund not yet received.

I joined Economy Energy in Sept 17. They installed a Smart Electricity Meter in Nov 17. Since then, I have had endless issues. My gas was taken over but turns out if was an erroneous transfer (when they take over the supply of someone else's house) they resolved this after 3 months of complaints. After that I couldn't log into my account, couldn't get a bill, any bill I did get was for estimated readings, couldn't get a reply, raised complaints, and eventually in April 18 I went to the Ombudsman. They ruled that my issues are valid, mainly as Economy Energy never replied to their investigating officer, the resolution was that Economy Energy had to: 1. Update the national data base with my correct meter number (even though they installed it, this never happened) 2. send me correct bills. 3. not charge me any early termination fee's (I left EE in June finally after the blocked my gas transfer 3 times despite agreeing I could leave, as I was sick of trying to deal with them) 4. pay me Β£75. 5. Confirm to my new energy provider my end meter reads. They had until the 1st Oct 18 to completed all of these tasks. Today we are on the 31st October 18 and the Ombudsman has reopened my case as Economy Energy have failed to carry out point 5. Which means I am unable to get a bill from my new provider! Economy Energy have told the Ombudsman that point 5 has been done, as they have received confirmed readings from my new provider. THIS IS MEANT TO BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND! I Left Economy Energy, they need to confirm my end reads! What is even more worrying is the Ombudsman have said all they can do at this stage is reopen the case. However I am considering legal action against Economy Energy, for the time it has taken me to deal with this, it is now almost a year on, and for them making it completely impossible for me to receive a bill from any other energy company.

This is a poor company to deal with. Firstly they want two months DD in advance. Extremely bad website that barely works. Erratic billing dates. Despite giving readings they still base their bills on estimates. Impossible to call. After the year they wanted a large increase in price so left. Three months later still sorting it. Bombarded with unwanted texts and emails.
