Worth a try
I decided to try Japancrate again. I got my November box and was not disappointed. It arrived very quickly with no issues. The snacks was great. I loved the pocky and apple pie kitkats in this box. This is definitely worth a try.

I decided to give Japan Crate a try back in June despite the decline in reviews since COVID. To be blunt, their shipping process sucks. It took 4 months for me to receive a crate with multiple customer service inquiries on the status of the crate. It got to the point where they just said the July crate couldn't be shipped, so instead they would send an October crate. The wait didn't really bother me as I somewhat expected it to happen due to the pandemic and the reviews. If I were only reviewing the product based on shipping, it would receive a 1 star. However, the rest of the experience was exceptional. Customer service was always there to keep me up to date on the status of my crate and usually replied within a day. The crate was well packed and the presentation was wonderful. I will probably give it another shot after the virus is gone and things go back to normal.
They never give out refunds under any circumstances. During this whole Covid thing, the added in a shipping charge. "Only while needed" But when my yearly renewal came up for 12 months I got a charge for 131 dollars for shipping. I saw this and immediately went to them to say i didn't' want this and want to cancel. They said sorry we don't do refunds ever. They said that the shipping will be charged each month as needed. But yet they charged me a whole years worth up front and with their refund policy even if they revert the changes i'll never see that money. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM EVER! EDIT: They reached out to me and issued a refund to me. I have been a supporter of there crates for YEARS AND YEARS. They said they are in the process of changing their policies. Thank you very much for this understanding during these hard times
Ordered the October Crate off of them and thought everything would go smooth, however, things did not go as expected. On their website they advertise the fact that the crates would be shipped via DHL Worldwide delivery which takes 3-5 days to arrive once shipped (note: I am in Australia), then, when I received my shipping confirmation email I was thrilled, until I was told that despite me paying the standard DHL extra shipping fee for my location, my crate had been shipped via Surface Mail instead (basically via boat). So from 3-5 days guaranteed delivery, I was given 3+ month delivery.. now what really frustrates me is the fact that they advertised the 3-5 day DHL shipping before even making sure with DHL themselves that it would be possible, and instead did everything last minute on the actual day of shipping. Another thing they could've done instead is given me a heads-up email asking me how I wanted to proceed instead of just straight away sending it off on a boat without any consultation, I mean they could've atleast sent it via Air Mail instead and not Surface Mail.. especially since on their website it is unheard of for the shipping to take a few months, the longest it mentions on their shipping schedule is 6 weeks. The whole situation frustrates me but now the only thing I can really do is just wait until December or even longer to receive my October crate. Overall, I am not satisfied.
Ordered a Crate in late August and have now taken over a month and still didn't get anything. This is just so bad it can be.
Japan Crate is exactly what they say it is. Fun snacks from Japan, that you probably never tried before. I have really enjoyed it with my kids, and the allways extremely kawai packets that the candy arive in, is extra fun. Be advised, that in certain regions, you might be required to pay VAT or other aditional expences. Not the fault of Japan Crate though, and I personally haven't been charged extra here in Denmark. My favorite snack ? Anything with watermelon.. Why don't we use that flavor more, here in Denmark ?
auto renewall scam. You pay once, you forget to cancel it and boom, you get charged second time
Purchased a 6 month gift subscription for my daughter only received 4 crates of the 6 she was supposed to get. I was told they would send 2 more crates to rectify the issue, which didn’t ship and I had to contact them to find this out, then was told they couldn’t ship them. I did receive a refund but they shorted me a dollar. I will never use them again, it was a horrible gift for the money it cost. Hugely disappointed.
5 crates missed in 9 months, so I requested a refund. No can do, fella. Fresh out of stock on those. Absolutely frigid support who is unwilling to service the customer telling them that they are unhappy and disappointed with the service as a whole. Do not give them a dime. I understand COVID has impacted many businesses and they have tried to fix things. But when a customer indicates they've lost faith in your service and simply want to part ways as they are 100% unsatisfied, you need to listen to that. That's me, not trying to leave a poor review. Giving you an opportunity to provide good customer service by allowing us to part ways with a lesson learned. Now folks have to see this and question if they gift a sub to someone, will that someone receive their product? Will they be offered a hard time if problems arise? Will they listen and help provide the least painful option to its customers? No. No they will NOT. They will gladly take your money, gladly not offer ANY reasonable refund option, and then offer a year of waiting around for products paid for that might arrive.....might not! The real surprise each month should not be whether or not this Months crate will even make it to you.
I have been a long time subscriber to Japan Crate. Starting with the smallest and worked my way up to the Premium crate. Everything was great for almost 2 years, then issues started. Customer service used to be great, but is now awful! They are no longer responsive to any forms of communication - taking weeks to get a response. The delays with getting crates are ridiculous. First they blamed the pandemic and their shipping company, which is quite possible when COVID first started. But 6 months in I'm still missing my March crate. I was told a replacement one was shipped, but where is it!? It's already almost October 2020. I had to make sooooo many inquiries to finally get my April-July crates. Most of these ended up being inedible. All the products were melted from probably sitting in transport or a warehouse somewhere for weeks-months. After bringing up these issues multiple times the only response is basically sorry, no refunds. After paying all this money plus the expedited shipping fee and receiving subquality products and inferior service I've decided to end my subscription. I would not recommend this service to anyone.
I was subscribed for 2 months to the Doki Doki kawaii box. The shipping times are horrendous, customer service is nonexistent, and all of the kawaii products are knockoffs. None of them are officially licensed. You are basically paying $45 (including the ridiculous shipping cost) for about $12 of cheaply made, knockoff scam products.
Positive: + Never missed a box in 1 year + delivery Negative: - Box is mainly candy with few bags of snack - Shady renewal practice (be sure to read the terms & condition carefully) - Support responds to tickets after 1 month - Started charging $10 for shipping without prior approval
this is tasteful , butt i need to adjust to japan taste
I bought this for my niece. It's over-priced junk that you can buy at half the price anywhere. Beware that when you want to unsubscribe, the process is misleading. They'll do anything to get another month or two out of you.
I ordered this as a present for my girlfriend which is coming up soon so with it saying 2-5 day shipping, I thought this would be a perfect gift, even if it was a little bit pricey. They shipped it out and then told me after that it would be 10-12 weeks without honouring what they said or giving me the option to cancel. I tried several times to get a refund but they refuse. Very deceiving company, please do not buy from them as there are many other companies to choose from.
Ripped off. My package was "lost in the mail" yet they sent it back to themselves just fine. It kept showing that it was stuck in California or something for MONTHS. I understood that there would be a delay due to Covid, thats not the problem. I was told by support in late August that the package was lost in the mail, I was told I would get my box in June, early July by the latest. How can they be so awful at tracking their packages? They're disorganized and unprofessional that's how. They used to be better many years ago, now they're just garbage. I feel scammed.
Japan crate is absolutely horrible. I wanted to subscribe to the premium subscription and the box is supposed to be 35$ a month When I went to checkout it showed I only had one box in my cart but when finalizing payment said I paid for two boxes. Not only did I get a second subscription I did not want Shipping was 27$. I asked multiple times to cancel the second box, no one got back to me with customer service... I contacted them through fb.,. I asked my questions and they referred me back to customer service.. a month later no one has gotten back to me... I look on there website and under there policy from when the time I ordered it I should have at least gotten a tracking number. I email customer service Two more weeks, no response, contact fb, ask me to be patient, another week later I’m contacted back being let known my boxes have shipped this is my tracking number and I can’t cancel or refund.. I got my boxes within a week of there response. It’s horrible customer service.,. On top of that these snacks are not worth 35$. they all come from the equivalent of a Japanese dollar store.,. The dollar store. The lack of variety is very disappointing as well. UPDATE: they’re saying I didn’t get back until the 20th, just double checked my email, I got back to them the day of, July 13th, again on the 17th. They didn’t get back to me until the 20th.
I originally was subscribed to Doki Doki Crate, a sister crate to Japan Crate. I decided (stupidly) to give Japan Crate a try during the pandemic because we're still currently stuck in our home with nowhere to go. Ordered in late June, the first box took ages to get here from the date they claimed the item was shipped. I had to hound DHL (the service they use) multiple times to track down my package because JC's customer service was practically non-existent and the ONE reply I received was extremely rude and dismissive. Had I not done all the legwork tracing it down via DHL, the package would have been lost. Que to August/Sept. crate. 6th Year Anniversary Crate. JC decided to randomly expedite the shipping to SOME customers while not informing the rest of us that they'd be doing this, so some people got their boxes in amazingly fast time (in the middle of August). Meanwhile, people like myself were left in the dark and had to hound customer service to get an estimated date on shipping for a box they'd already taken money out for in the middle of August. Apparently, they had already shipped out my box and just not bothered to inform me or give me any tracking information. By the time I received tracking confirmation, the box had come the next day. Then let's add to the fact that the value of the items in the box DOES NOT equal $35 dollar's worth of "premium" product. More than half the box is "dagashi", which are cheap yen candies you buy in any old store in Japan. Very few of the "premium" products are full sized and even the "premium" products in Japan are not marked up that much. I understand needing to make a profit for shipping out boxes, but a.) they are way over-pricing their premium products and b.) they charge you $35 + $10 extra for shipping, the shipping company they use (DHL) is extremely hit or miss and I have had nothing but terrible luck getting ANY of my packages from them. Customers are not getting their money's worth in the boxes, even without the added shipping charges (which I understand) and c.) the "premium" products in the box (when they give you a decent amount) don't add up to NEARLY the cost of what they are charging you (which does not include shipping, because that's an extra 10 USD). Overall, I gave it a shot for two months and their customer service was abysmal, their shipping company is a crapshoot if you live in the US and you'd be lucky to get your money's worth in ANY of the boxes. Pretty damn disappointed, honestly.
Absolute rubbish! If I could give 0 stars, that would also be more for these people! They send email that crate has been shipped, even though it wouldn't have been sent out. Then they deduct money for DHL even though they either didn't send the crate/sent it via surface mail. They never respond to your emails on time and when they do get back to you, they are as clueless as you about what is going on. Further, they deduct money from your account for no reason even after all the crates have been shipped and you have cancelled your subscription. Do not subscribe to these frauds.
The first crate took so long to arrive that I was charged for the second crate before even receiving the first. I contacted them the day they took the second payment and told them I want to cancel as I haven't even received one delivery. They flatly refused to refund the second payment but cancelled my subscription as requested, and told me the first crate was on the way and the second would ship on 20th July. I eventually received the first crate over 6 weeks after ordering and was disappointed considering the cost, so was glad that I'd cancelled. Come 30th August, I'd still not received the second crate that was supposed to leave Japan on 20th July. I chased this and they said there was a delay and gave me tracking showing it shipped on 18th August - 29 days later than they'd advised. They'd processed my second payment on 16th July and I'd requested to cancel for a refund on the same day. Given that they dispatched this second order over 3 weeks after this, I can see no reason why they couldn't cancel and refund, other than pure greed on their part.
