Expensive Shipping & Cheap Quality

I got the Doki Doki crates, and while being cute, the items they pick feel cheap and unsatisfying. Especially for the price that you have to pay for them. On top of that, they no longer offer free shipping so you have to pay a ridiculous amount for your box. As well, the boxes are frequently delayed and never on time. I had to wait 8 weeks for my July crate instead of 3-4. Today, my subscription plan renewed for 6 months, and I tried to refund the subscription because of the absurd shipping costs. Of course the Japan Crate team did not give me a refund, and I am very disappointed and frustrated in the lack of empathy of the Japan Crate support team. I will never buy from them again. If you are considering trying them however, please first look at other cute kawaii crate options out there. There are MANY (I repeat MANY) cheaper options that come with free shipping to any country! This business is such a rip-off.

This sucks.

I ordered a crate in April hoping I would receive it by next month I waited and they said there was going to be a delay because of Covid so I wait. Then I get charged for next month's crate and so at that point I was waiting for two crates. Then May passes then June then July it is now August and I haven't heard nothing. My family is thinking this website is a scam and I'm starting to think they might be right. So now all I want is a refund for two premium crates that I paid for which I'm not even sure If I will get.

Extra charges and Terrible support

Terrible support and bad business practices. I had a subscription to their premium monthly crate before the whole covid situation. After covid started, they sent out an email stating they would charge a 5 dollar shipping fee on the boxes, I was find with it so I kept my subscription and they charged it for the next 3 months. On month 4, they decided to charge a 20 dollar Shipping fee without saying anything. I sent in a support ticket that went unanswered for 2 months before being deleted by them. So they charged me 20 dollars extra, wont reply to my support ticket and then delete it, I don´t recommend anyone to shop with them. There are plenty of other boxes like this that you can find.

Paid $45 for an $11 box of nothing.

Paid $45 for a $11 box of nothing. I subscribed to Japan Crate's, Doki Doki Crate for all things kawaii! The first box took a really long time and that's probably because of Covid, so I can let that go but when I got the box (3 months later), it was not what I expected at all and it seems like, what was inside the box was not worth the money that I paid, so, I skipped the next renewal and had planned on canceling. But they had already charged me for next month's crate before I could cancel and when I emailed them, they did not reply and put my ticket as 'resolved' without even talking to me about anything! So already, 1. The things inside the box aren't worth the money and are generally things that you can get at a Daiso or Japanese convenience store. 2. Customer service completely sucks and lacks existence! I didn't calculate how much money was in the first box but I did this time because before I even opened the box, the fact that I had the box, made me livid. The prices of the items were in yen on the tags of the items (which seems like a dumb move on their part) so it was easily transferred into the US dollar or I could just scan the barcode and directly look up that item and its price; So every price you see, is exact. So, I paid a whopping $45, not just for the crate itself but for their special speedy shipping that they added on without even consulting me. What's the price of everything inside the September crate? Exactly $11.40. Tell me not to be angry. The items I got were a mini Sanrio hairbrush, a Sanrio kitchen/bathroom mat, a Sumikko gurashi plastic plate, a flimsy paper rabbit notebook and a cat KITCHEN SPONGE. They gave me a sponge. Yes, they were cute but not $45 cute and barely even $10 cute. I've since swiftly canceled the subscription and am never going back. Livid.

Refuses same-day refund...

Product was fine but I emailed them to cancel my order the same morning my subscription renewed and they refused. This is the problem with subscription services, however most I used will refund and cancel your subscription if its the same day. Japan Crate refuses to do so.

Not worth it

Got my first crate ever and payed for the premium box and honestly was super disappointed. It says 18-20 full size items, I got 16 items and 6 of them were literally a piece of single gum or a single bite gummy. Definitely not worth $50. The actual few full size items were good but I wish I could get my money back. Not only that it didn’t even include my lucky scratch card so idk.

I've had good experience with them and my using crate subscription. Zero complaints. I know I could probably find these products locally for less money but I appreciate the packaging and the instructions and descriptions that come with each of these. It's very well done.

Not Worth It

Contents in the Japan Crate are not worth the value of the box. Gave two stars because packaging was pretty nice, but thats it. Do not recommend.

Package was "delivered" but not to me

I have not received my package despite DHL saying they delivered it already. I've triple checked my address, checked with my neighbors to make sure it didn't go to them (I live in an apartment complex) checked with the front office and they don't have it. And now the company has stopped responding to me regarding my order. DHL has launched an investigation into where my package is, but this is the most frustrating delivery I've had to deal with. I really wish I had looked up reviews before I ordered because other people seem to have the same issues.

Got the Umai Crate gifted to me - refunded because they didn't address it correctly

Got the Umai Crate gifted to me; I received all but one because they did the address that one shipment correctly so rather than sending out a new crate they simply refunded the gift giver credit. Not a good experience.

It’s a legitimate company, BUT

It’s a legitimate company, but it’s practices are garbage. Consistent false advertising. Cheap convenient store junk in a FOURTY DOLLAR CRATE. Didn’t receive my packages for months, one arrived wet despite it not raining and everything inside that wasn’t sealed by plastic was ruined. Most people would be willing to pay more for a premium crate instead of it being random (i kind of doubt people even actually get it), but they refuse because putting $20 worth of junk in a $40 crate nets them more. Do not subscribe to this crate. So kawaii does it better.

$5 shipping for nothing.

I got 2 crates through Japan Crate, May and June. It took 6 weeks to get the May box, and my June crate was shipped on June 3rd and as of August 4th it's still not here. The only way to get tracking numbers is to contact customer service and wait for them to respond. Meanwhile at Tokyo Treat I pay a $10 shipping fee and get my box within a week and they automatically give you a tracking number. I've already cancelled my subscription with Japan Crate, now just waiting to get what I paid for 2 months ago.

My first experience with Japan Crate

Other than the extremely lax customer service when trying to reach them about the whereabouts of your crate. Just got my August crate today, didnt even order it that long ago, not even a whole month(earlier this month), and it actually got to me a day, earlier than the delivery date said it would. I'm grateful and satisfied with my premium crate. Thank you Japan Crate !

Prompt delivery from Sugoi Mart

I ordered from Sugoi Mart, not Japan Crate. I ordered a ton of Kit Kats back in May and they arrived quickly - within a week. Given the COVID-19 situation all over the world, some delay is to be expected. I was very surprised and pleased with how quickly they arrived. I look forward to ordering more items when they catch my interest.

Bought a year subscription in march…

Bought a year subscription in march everything was fine until quarantine, recieved March and April, I have yet to recieve anything since. We're now in July, I've had to chase on social media to get a reply, only to be told 'no tracking on may crate' in that little words, after requesting info on all crates and then a refund. Appalling attitude to their customer base. Edit: after a second time chasing on social media I finally recieved a refund for the 3 crates I haven't recieved. Will have to see what happens with the rest.

Frustrating service

I decided to give them a try in the beginning of April. I bought the normal snack box and the noodle box. I paid extra for shipping, thinking it’s going to get her a little quicker but understood due to Covid that it could be delayed. However it’s a few days from August and I still haven’t received my boxes. I cancelled my subscription because I didn’t want to keep paying for a service that I don’t know how they are and I was still charged for two boxes in May. I received my normal snack box in the first week of June but there has been no word on my noodle box. So that’s three boxes unaccounted for. Every time I mention anything about it I get the generic “it’s coming be patient” response. What they fail to understand is that it’s 95 degrees here and has been really hot in the US. That April snack box candy is going to be disgusting given that my June box came in 60 degree weather and the chocolate was melted. I’m super frustrated that I have no idea where the boxes are, and this seems to be a commons trend.

Would rate -5 if I could PLEASE DONT BUY

Would rate -5 if I could this service is APPALLING. I wish I read reviews before signing up. I bought the may and June crate. Before I even received my may crate I had a payment of £40 taken from my account for a June crate renewal with absolutely no warning, no notice, not even a place on the website to let you know the date it will renew. I wasn’t even able to evaluate if I liked the service and wanted to continue using it before they took more money off me. I then read so many awful reviews of this happening to people, one family had £300 taken off them for a “renewal” of a year subscription of crates without ANY WARNING OR NOTICE, not even an email heads up so they'd know to cancel in time and were REFUSED a refund. I’m pretty certain this isn’t legal. After reading the reviews and realising I probably wasn’t going to get my money back (cause this service is avoidant) I let it slide and thought that one more box wouldn’t hurt. (I didn’t receive my may crate for 2 weeks after that.) I cancelled my subscription immediately after they took my money so they couldn’t do it again. It is a week till august and I have been trying to contact customer support for two weeks on the status of my June crate and have been ignored. It has taken me commenting on their Instagram a lot to get any help and I still haven’t received that help. They went as far as replying to MY complaint comment telling me to wait as they’re “busy” and when somebody replied to me telling me they were experiencing the same thing doki doki said to THAT person “send us your email” and got their issue sorted immediately. I commented again yesterday and sent my email and all further messages have been ignored. I received my June crate today and it arrived with BUGS INSIDE IT. I have photos and a video of it too it’s disgusting. They have not replied to this complaint either and I don’t think they will, I doubt I’ll get a refund either I’m so shocked. Please don’t buy. The contents of the box are apparently not the value they claim they are. You also don’t receive any receipts, order confirmations, shipping confirmations or tracking numbers (absolutely nothing in my inbox anyway.) Also to access the support request you filed you have to make a separate account that conveniently glitches and doesn’t allow you to create a password so I can’t view my request to screenshot it as proof I contacted them, I wasn’t even sent an email copy. It’s so sketchy. Also claimed there would be a “slight rise in shipping costs” and I was overcharged by £5 for both crates. Honestly I could go on all day, read the reviews, they’ll tell you what you need to know. Never using this service again and I’ll be sure to let my friends and family know not to too. Update: Got a response via Instagram to send them my email, they didn’t even read the messages. I commented AGAIN days later to get a response to which they claimed I never sent them any Instagram messages and made out that I was lying, I screenshotted the chat to prove I’d sent messages and they acted oblivious and sent a screenshot of a “brand new chat”... For that to have happened that would have meant that they DELETED my chat before even reading it. They avoided all responsibility when I told them all the issues I was facing and blamed everyone but themselves and told me they couldn’t help and I’d have to call a postal service. That’s the issue, due to not receiving any shipping or tracking information AT ALL for EITHER box who the hell am I supposed to call? They were incredibly rude and kept telling me to email the support team which I’d already done. I’ve emailed them again and have not received a response for about 2-3 weeks now. Disgusted, I want my money back and they’re deliberately ignoring me 🤦🏼‍♀️

Stop before it is too late! I would not have ordered if I had read these reviews first.

My card was charged for a gift subscription, but I could not complete the purchase because of web site errors. When I tried to contact support, my email was returned with a "mailbox full" error. Then I found these reviews, which have been almost all negative since April. It looks like this company is in deep trouble. They are continuing to advertise, and they are charging for new subscriptions, but merchandise is either arriving very late or never, and customer service is not responding.

Beware you can't upgrade gift subscriptions

Not mad about the shipping delays due to COVID, that is to be expected. I am annoyed that apparently you cannot upgrade a gifted annual subscription. So if some gives you a 1-year prepaid Original subscription, you cannot choose to upgrade it to Premium. I'm told you can only buy a 2nd subscription in order to get premium items. This does not seem at all reasonable or make any sense. Customers should be able to pay the difference of remaining months, even if the change is delayed by a month or two from the date they decide to upgrade. If you can upgrade a month to month subscription, you should be able to do this to year long. I hope they'll change this policy.
