No facility to cancel auto-renewal on day before
I tried to cancel a car insurance policy the evening before an automatic renewal took effect. Upon logging into my account there was no facility to either remove the auto-renewal facility, or to cancel the shortly to commence policy. Upon logging on the following day, the Cancel facility was now available, but with a £25 cancellation charge. On calling the helpline, explaining my situation and questioning the cancellation charge, I was told that I could anyway only cancel the policy by making a call to the call centre, questionably my call then disconnected. This is an untruth, as I immediately cancelled my policy online without re-calling a Geoffrey representative, and absorbed the required £25 cost. Blocking or not providing any online facility to cancel a policy the day before it rolls over is worse than disingenuous, as Geoffrey will make a tidy sum from these late cancellations. Misinforming a client by the call centre only compounds the deceit. Be aware. EDIT: Futher to the response from Geoffrey Insurance below that the opportunity to decline the renewal offer ‘shuts off once our customers receive the "your policy has been renewed" email’, I received this email on the 9th, the day after I sought to cancel renewal of my policy online, and the day the new policy commenced. This confirms my contention that I sought to cancel in legal time, and it was just the deliberate unavailability of the facility on the evening proceeding the auto-renewal that prevented me from doing so. Again a disingenuous response. As in so many generic replies, notably no reply to the stated facts of my e-mail, no denial either that the online facility to cancel on the day preceding a renewal is removed, nor that the call-centre was correct in their assertion that there is no online means to cancel, and ‘all calls are recorded for training purposes’!?
