Using the Victorian Energy Compare website, Energy Locals were far cheaper than my current retailer... Just signed up today. Very easy sign-up. :)
I found the online transfer to be extremely user friendly
Since we have managed to get solar feed-in onto our bill our bills have sky-rocketed at Energy Locals. They are now feeding energy into our batteries from the grid at 2am, so when the sun comes up the batteries are full and the energy our system generates is wasted. We are getting bills for the 2am feed in and no other usage.
Establishing a new account was the easiest process I have encountered with a business for a long time. I selected Energy Locals because I know I'm paying a monthly fee for their business costs and then paying for electricity at the agreed wholesale rates. There is no place to conceal any corporate gouging.
The change over to Energy Locals was easy.
Requires a 3rd party credit history check. I've never skipped a payment for any credit, but I have my credit history blocked for security purpose. That makes me incompatible with this energy company
Easy to read and understand Simple and quick sign up Great pricing
You can be harassed and your privacy infringed, by constant email and sms requests for 'extra medical forms' to 'prove your status further' and what not. Even if by the privacy law, and by the law, once you are registered by the govt. as a disability person, and provide them the your card scan that proves it, it won't be enough. Though these guys should know that: requiring of a customer anything further but concession card number is: illegal and constitutes an infringement of customer safety and privacy. Not recommended, for the current experience with them, since you as a customer, with these guys will be harassed the said way, and your health and life arrangements put in the danger, with no concern from their side about it, other than forcing out on you further draconian (unjust and outdated) letter of the law, as the excuse. If the 'extra document requests' harassment continues, we may be referring the case to the regulator, for an continuous abuse and the privacy infringement, so we will see form here, as the further call is: on them. They ARE given every chance (a few times) to stop forwarding such 'extra ' onerous form requests, that endanger further your privacy and safety, and they still kept pressing on it. Otherwise than that there is no (yet) any sign of anything else wrong, or prices mongering which was nice for the start, until these 'extra' 'verification' requests have started pouring in. Currently with this ungodly 'requirement' we have only life safety and health and life arrangements damage, due to it, still coming over, from their side. Attention to consumer regulator out there: I don't think I am the only one 'processed' this way, thanks. I also find any such request, under the 'Section 7 of the National Energy Retail Rules' to be an infringement of customer's privacy and direct harassment against all people with disabilities, nation wide (since all such information is already contained in their concession card numbers), and therefore any such legislation 'requirement section' for 'extra medical forms' still kept in power: is by my community and disability community to be seen as a: criminal negligence, from here, for as long as it persists. DrMichaelMV, trying to make it stop, for me, and all disability affected people of our nation, and especially those who can not speak for them selves and suffer under the same, as we speak, as that unjust law 'requirement' (so damaging to all disability people) needs obviously to be overturned. 07-11-2022.
Signed up for monthly billing but no bills arrive. After 3 months I contacted them to alert to the situation. My online account showed no usage. Finally got fixed after 6 months. Submitted a medial certificated and form for energy rebate but no response after 4 weeks. Phoned up and was told it would be done immediately. 4 weeks later still not done, and support ticket still not replied to. Called again and was “escalated” and received an email from them saying “very sorry, please fill in another form.” I did and submitted, and another 3 weeks passed and still nothing, no response and no rebate. I will be changing providers now and I would not use this company or recommend them as they are terrible in support and their pricing is not actually any better than other providers. Don’t be fooled by their monthly account subscription fee to reduce your bill. My next complaint will be to Fair Trading or Ombudsman for not processing the medical forms.
Energy Locals looked good with a fixed rate plan and a decent feed in tariff. I applied for that and was connected- but not to the plan I applied for, but a much less cost effective (for my usage patterns) Time of Use plan. That fact was hidden in a link of the name of the plan I applied for. Naively I assumed that they'd just given me the wrong link, but I checked. "Oh the plan you applied for is no longer available from the wholesaler (Ausgrid)". I asked shy I hadn't been informed of that fact prior to signing me up. There proceeded a string of subterfuge along the lines of 'the energy made easy (gov.au) site is not accurate' (Energy Locals use that as their quoting site) and 'you sign up according to your meter type not according to the plan you apply for'. Be very careful if you go with this mob.
I paid $20K+ for a solar system and battery as I want to do my bit to help the planet and the world I live in. I joined energy locals because this was something that was pushed by Tesla (the battery I bought). It seemed great idea, if I could help at times of grid stress as really happy too. I read some of the feedback posts and ignored it and joined Energy Locals - My Bad!!! I read about people not getting bills. Happened to me and took hours of fighting to get my first bill, almost a month late... I understand why they didn't want to send me the bill as they had not paid the solar credits. Complaint ignored. Also be aware that this company via Tesla will manipulate your battery so that you end up buying electricity from the grid (Tesla tells me that is to 'optimise' the battery), I am now 100% sceptic. Do yourself a favor and rethink a decision to be a 'customer' of this company. Helping the planet should not be this stressful.
Switched from Powershop to Co Power (Energy Locals) with no fuss. Bill emailed after one month, easy to understand. Email query about timing of peak tariff responded to promptly and clearly. Looking forward to partnership.
Have been using them for almost 12 months now, and they're still the most competitive price for me. Had two unplanned power outages so far, but both times I received updates via SMS, and the power was restored in a reasonable time. Both occasions before the expected connection time I was told in the SMS. Had to contact them for the first time recently, and did so via email. Their response was fast, and friendly, and they went to great efforts to help me. Really happy!
I changed to COOPERATIVE POWER / ENERGY LOCALS because I thought I could do my little bit awith 100% Renewables. And, I am glad that I did. Already changed initially to Powershop because that was their promise too, renewables, until they sold out to big Shell, no sight of renewables there! Thank goodness COOPERATIVE POWER via our Unions came forward! Antoinette Riley. Marrickville.
Very unhappy. Lots of apologies but no action. Now three months and still don't have a bill (Joined for monthly billing) or any usage data. Moved from a single peak to a double peak plan which means I am now on nearly peak rates from 7am - 10pm Mon-Fri. My patience is at an end. Lost me as a customer.
Great customer service. My query was answered quickly, positively and accurately.

A fantastic company. Had my electricity with Energy Locals for over 3 years now at several properties. Excellent customer service, prompt connection and just a great bunch of people. I would highly recommend Energy Locals to anyone, from residential to small business. It's time to create more competition and more transparency in the Australian energy market. The big companies are ripping everyone off whilst Energy Locals helps the average Aussie keep their bills lower.
Nightmare experience with incompetent staff who didn’t get my address right. Then messed up my application and even with submitting my license for a credit check. I was subjected to a witch hunt by the credit manager who cancelled my account due to internal error. I was subjected to lie upon lie, no transparency and put through the ringer by hopeless staff. Small, USELESS provider, avoid at all costs. In response to Energy Locals- lt’s a terrible shame when the Founder of Energy Locals is more concerned with a negative review than providing ethical and honest business practices. The Founder obviously has no idea what is happening with his own company.

Many reviewers appreciate the ease of signing up and the competitive pricing, highlighting the straightforward process and transparent billing. Customers enjoy the benefits of wholesale energy prices and the ability to switch easily between electricity and gas services. However, a significant number of complaints focus on the pricing structure, with some feeling that the fees are excessive and not competitive compared to other providers. Issues such as being charged for properties not currently occupied and difficulties with address changes also contribute to dissatisfaction. Overall, while many find Energy Locals to be a convenient and fair option, concerns about pricing and customer service issues remain prevalent.
