A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

If I could give zero stars then I…

If I could give zero stars then I absolutely would. By far the worst energy provider on the market. The signs were there when I had my electricity and gas cut off twice in the first two months because someone in admin had me down as a pre-pay account instead of a pay monthly. One mistake is forgivable but to then cut me off the second month for the same reason is just incompetence. Over the course of the year, I had three price increases on my bill until it was 30% higher than the start, in the end i was paying more than I had previously paid with any other provider. So when my contract was finally up, I obviously changed provider. I was told that i had to pay a final addition of £42 which i did, then a month later i had a letter threatening legal action if i didn't pay an additional £24.01 to finalise my bill, even though my Electricity account was over £60 in credit. i was told that the two departments are ran differently and i had to make the payment. i foolishly did as i was told that the credit on my account would be paid within 3-5 days (7 at the maximum) then, 10 days later, i get another email telling me that i owe £17.92 otherwise i would be taken to court. I rang and had a blazing row with the most unhelpful member of staff you can imagine, telling me that they would take the £17.92 from my credit and then i should receive my money back within 15 days. I have a feeling that after 15 days, it will be 30 etc etc etc. Its telling that Economy Energy have closed down all social media and i have a feeling they'll soon be out of business owing a lot of money to a lot of unhappy ex customers. Do yourself a favour, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Incompetent and useless

I switched to Economy Energy in 2017. They used the wrong meter number and so I paid both electricity to my existing supplier and to Economy Energy in relation to some other property for a while. I contacted them, and they realised their mistake, but gave me no refund. They then set up my electricity separately (not duel fuel) from gas. During 2018 I have been trying to get a refund for the payments. I raised a formal complaint in July 2018, and again in September 2018 - they have got as far as saying a they will process a fast track refund, but haven't. The customer complaints department is incompetent and useless, as is the company. Do not use this company.

All I want is my bill!!

I moved into my property mid-August and discovered that Economy Energy were supplying the house. I changed providers immediately but therefore I had to pay for the electricity that I used before my new provider had taken over. I have no problem paying what I owe however the first I hear from Economy Energy is an email towards the end of September telling me that my payment was overdue. I was very surprised as I had not received notification of how much I owed and therefore how was I supposed to know how much to pay. What's more there was no bill to explain how this figure was reached. I phoned Economy Energy to be greeted by a very unpleasant woman telling me that I owed this money and had to pay it. I explained that I was very happy to pay, however I would like to know how the figure was reached, i.e. what was the charge per unit etc. She explained that this was on my online account (something that I have not signed up for since I have no intention of staying with this company) and asked please could they send it to me. She said she would email me. I have not received anything and I now receive an email from a debt collector requesting the money. I am furious with this company as I have done nothing wrong in asking for a simple bill, something I am entitled to, prior to making the payment. This is an astonishing way to treat your customers and therefore I would never recommend this company to anyone.

Shocking.

My contract finished on 19th July. It’s now 7th November and, despite asking them for help over the last three months, cannot get them to respond, other than ‘we have a backlog’. They have confirmed how much they owe me. I asked if I could speak to the operative’s manager, which was refused. Incredible. I don’t think i’ve dealt with a worse company ever. Chasing me for 9 months for money not…

--edit (17/11/2018) Was contacted by "social media executive" on here saying a response would be given - just a feeble PR exercise - this company DO NOTHING to help their customers and are a joke - strongly recommend you avoid these cowboys. -- /edit Chasing me for 9 months for money not owed. Here's official complaint (with specific details) I sent on 1st Sept, no acknowledgement, still getting demands for +500 quid. Shocking. Dear Economy Energy, Account Number: EXXXXXXX Name: REDACTED Address: X-REDACTED-X I moved from the above address on 31st January 2018. I informed Economy Energy of the fact the following week. I was in credit when I left the property. My direct debit was canceled and you acknowledge such in an email dated 23rd March 2018. I am still in credit to an amount of at least £40 with you now. Here is a list of some of the continuous harassment from you that I have received since then telling me I have an ever increasing amount owed to you: Email: 12th June 14:39 - Overdue account, no amount specified Email: 2nd July 16:05 - Overdue account, no amount specified Email: 11th July 15:59 - Overdue account, no amount specified Email: 18th July 11:45- Overdue account, no amount specified Email: 26th July 14:01 - Final Notice - 7 days to may, no ***** amount specified Text Message: 20th August - 14:50pm - notification of balance of £544.28 outstanding (apparently) Text Message: 22th August - 14:29pm - notification of balance of £544.28 outstanding (apparently) Text Message: 24th August - 13:10pm - notification of balance of £544.28 outstanding (apparently) Text Message: 28th August - 13:29pm - notification of balance of £544.28 outstanding (apparently) Phone call: 23rd August, 14:25 - 15 minutes call and was told that clearly my account is not in arreas and that it would be sorted Phone call: 31st August, 13:12 - 15 minutes call and was told that clearly my account is not in arrears and that it would be sorted Phone call: 31st August, 14:56 - missed call Phone call: 1st September, 16:30 - Told the guy to go away and now registering this complaint about harassment There are plenty that I haven't got around to dig out but the list goes on. I will check my phone and email history more fully before reporting this to the regulator. Every time I have have engaged I have been told that it is a mistake. Then a day or two later another collection agent from your company rings me to tell me the same over again. It's complete ground hog day. I have been assured several times by the person calling that they would contact the appropriate department and stop this. I have now BLOCKED all numbers from you for calls and texts. I have also directed any further emails to go to trash. I ask that any future correspondence goes to my home address in writing so I can fully record this. I will accept an apology and should one be received from you I will take no further action. I would also expect a full refund of any amounts I have overpaid to be sent via cheque to the same address.

Awful company ! Avoid

Awful company ! Lied to me to get me to renew with them (they paid me compensation for lying before they report that as false) but also didn’t tell me they hadn’t generated a bill for nearly a year despite my meter readings so retained me as a customer by deception & quoting me a price they could not give me ! Now fighting a bill for 4x the price any other company has ever charged me (including them the year before !) I have asked that I can pay the original estimate bill they sent me which is still very high as there has clearly been a mistake when the final reading was taken so meet them in the middle and they have said no they will send debt collectors ! They don’t respond to emails even the ombudsman has not had a response yet ! I would happily settle the estimate bill they took months to generate now but they are happy to put me in financial difficulty and cause me undue stress .. can see why they have been voted worst company two years in a row ! I feel bad as i was recommending them originally I hope everyone else sees sense !! Paying same with bulb now and £280 in credit with accurate readings where as they say I underpaid by £600 for 7 months with no contact from them to change my direct debit ! Avoid Avoid Avoid !!! Update : contacted by web chat and they said they can’t discuss any complaints! More of my time wasted !

Awful

Awful, awful company. They owe me about £300 of credit, been told it will take 28 days, we are now at 28 days, apparently it will take a bit longer as they have a backlog of refunds. Ah yes, because doing a bank transfer does take some time... not instant at all. Oh and they said I can't complain, because they have a backlog of refunds to process so that's why, case closed. I just asked on live chat about 5 times how to proceed to the internal review stage, as I can't take this to the ombudsman unless I have been through all the stages. Apparently the ombudsman won't consider my complaint though, because they closed it... well let's let him decide that. I really wish i'd paid attention to the reviews on this company when I switched. Naively I thought "how bad can it be?". Turns out, horrendous. Luckily I move house soon and can leave! Then wait another month or so for more account credit... I certainly won't be recommending that my buyer stays with them when he moves in!

Economy Energy problems

I changed gas and electricity supply from 1st September 2018 from Evonomy Energy after their 12 month fixed price deal ended. It is now nearly 10 weeks since supply ended and ,todate I cannot get confirmation of when my outstanding credit is going to be paid to me.Email on 30th said it would be 28days to get approved ,and a further 3-5 days to reach my bank account. So if that happens it will be nearly 14 weeks since supply ended. I think that is exceedingly poor ,and close to being fraudulent. You cannot get to speak to accounts department,or anyone in authority.I would strongly advise to have no dealings with this company.

shocking company repeated lengthy phone…

Yes there is something you can do for me! Pay me and the countless others that you owe money to!! shocking company repeated lengthy phone calls to refund over £100 that has been owed to me since I left them in August. it's now November and they still won't tell me when it will be paid. agent that answers the phone cannot give any answers and supervisor/manager not willing to speak with me. they will not put me through to the complaints or refund department. apparently the refund department doesn't have a phone maybe that's why I can't get a refund if the department doesn't have a phone. joke of a company avoid if possible. no recognised social media accounts for customers to leave feedback. will never use again!
