Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

It is a terrible company, they keep using their estimated usage for billing even when you provide them with your meter readings monthly. They changed my direct debit for gas from Β£17 to Β£51, as they estimated my usage wrong and with their estimation I was in Β£30 dept... now they won't change the direct debit back even if I am in credit... Can not wait to finish with them... also the yearly usage is estimated (much higher than my actual use) too so of course you can not find a cheaper deal. Its takes for ever to get in touch with customer service and them they just as useful as a chocolate fire brigade!

****update**** They reply to this thread but still do nothing to resolve! .... still waiting and also emailed the Director of the company, who by the way hasn't responded SHOCK!....Horrendous company, zero customer service and zero acknowledgement of any kind of complaints! Hours upon hours spent trying to get my Β£700 refund and had no choice but to go to the energy ombudsman. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY how they are still trading is beyond me, they do not follow processes or proceedures set out by ofgem!

Don't go with them! they are no good. Can never get hold of them. They get you with cheap deals and the just take money out of your account with no warning me Β£400 because I was using to much energy. They then phone you all the time for the money, when you are on a plan

STAY AWAY!!! Terrible organisation. Customer service is non-existent. I switched and they owed me money after electricity and gas bills were reconciled. I now receive a threatening email every week demanding payment for a debt I do not owe. Iβve called Customer Services to rectify the situation over and over without any resolution. Iβve made official complaints and still the emails keep coming. After yet another email, I called in again today, raised another complaint and (to my disgust) I could clearly hear several members of call centre staff laughing and joking about the length of time Customer complaints had been left open for and making jokes about Customers negative experiences. Now I realise why my complaint hadnβt been dealt with and I have no faith it will. I find the cultural attitude in Economy Energy absolutely disgusting. To be laughing and joking about Customers in financial hardship and finding their own poor behaviour funny is unbelievably bad. This company needs shutting down!

I can only reiterate what everyone else has been saying on this site. I transferred away from them in July and still haven't been paid my refund. I have chased them every weekend on this and receive empty promises from their help desk staff each time. Even their complaints department don't reply! AVOID!

I will be brief. I switched to Economy Energy in December 2017. Unfortunately they switched the wrong account; the supply to a wind turbine in a nearby field, so I changed my mind and cancelled the switch. I would have had to wait 6 weeks to recoup the money I had already paid but I used the direct debit guarantee with my bank to have it refunded immediately. In July 2018 I received a bill for Β£26.16. After a lot of phone calls and emails I managed to get confirmation that the bill is null and void. Now in November 2018 I have received an email informing me that I have an overdue account. And so it continues......

I have been trying to pay and close an energy account with EE since I sold the property In September. Despite numerous phone calls and emails (when I gave them the final meter readings) I have NEVER received any bills. Then on 7/11/18 I received an email from a debt collection agency (ORIEL) demanding payment . Seeing as I have never received a bill (let alone a correctly worked out bill) I cannot fathom how this Co expects to me cough up the money for a non existent Invoice??? Despite numerous phone calls and emails from, lets call them S and A (both giving me con tradectory advice) I have given up. Customer complaints do not even acknowledge my emails to them . I must point out that earlier this year I was phoned by a different debt collection agency demanding payment.. Again then I had not received any bills, despite my attempts to give them details over a long period of time. The aforementioned S did manage to eventually get that sorted although the phone calls demanding payment continued even though no money was outstanding. The responses received from EE is shocking. Nobody seems to be able to comprehend basic accounting principles, nor can anyone work out what my bill should be. I have tried to get this settled but they are totally incompetent. and the fact that a debt collect ion agency is now chasing me is totally unacceptable. Avoid this company at your peril. They will give you a headache and cause you so much misery and you will be spending hours an the computer and on phone calls dealing with cretins who are useless. By the way I have used initials as I was told I did not have their permission to use their names!!!!!!!! Heaven forbid someone might be held to account for their incompetence !!!!!

Absolute scam of a company. They will ring you daily, threaten you with legal action for 'bills' their system has incorrectly generated. They will stop at nothing to get you to pay out. Do not use this company for your gas/electric, they will attempt to scam you out of any money you have. When closing my account, they attempted to say I owed Β£348. I have spoken to around 7 advisors at Economy Energy who, each time, assured me the bill was incorrect, would be cancelled and I would not be contacted again- all lies. I regularly got texts/emails claiming legal action would be taken against me, and I got calls every single day asking me to pay, despite not owing them anything. THREE MONTHS after closing my account, I am still being pestered DAILY with this calls asking me to pay this 'bill'. Even after having a written conformation stating this 'bill' was incorrect, they still continue to contact me. I've spent hours trying to get them to cancel this fake bill they've generated- not something you want to be doing when you are a full-time third year university student who also works 25 hours a week. This is a blatant scam tactic to try and get people to pay out what they don't owe. Their explanation when I asked how they got this 'bill' was because the 'system' billed me twice- an obvious LIE. This whole situation has caused me so much stress and anxiety, to the point I have had to seek professional help to cope with the stress. Do not use if you value your time and mental health. Making a formal complaint against the company, contacting Watchdog and contacting CitizensAdvice.

I wish I had read the reviews before setting up with Economy Energy for my disabled mum. I have recently switched from them to a new company and you guessed it i'm still awaiting her refund 2months later. I was told that the refund would be processed as soon as the final bill was produced. This isn't so! The customer service team need training in manners, they are so rude and try to make out like your stupid!
