Review summary

Hazelton's Canada receives overwhelmingly negative feedback, with 97% of reviewers expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers appreciate the concept of gift baskets and the selection available, the majority report significant issues with service and product quality. Many people experience late deliveries, with orders arriving well past the promised dates, leading to frustration and disappointment. Reviewers frequently mention receiving incorrect or substituted items that do not match their original orders, often of lower quality. Complaints about poor customer service and a lack of accountability for mistakes are common, with several consumers feeling misled by the company's claims. Overall, the sentiment is overwhelmingly negative, with many urging others to avoid this company.

Don't expect what you pay for!!!

Ordered through Hazelton's Canada and was directed to this review site. I ordered a basket for a friend's 50th birthday and selected a specific delivery date. The package was late AND to boot, I paid extra for a sparkling wine upgrade to be included, only to find out the recipient received a basic dry white wine. When I brought this to Hazelton's attention, they dismissed both concerns and told me they were allowed to substitute it if necessary with an equivalent. The equivalent should have been another sparkling wine, NOT a basic white. You mean to say you didn't have another sparkling wine out of the millions out there? They are simply dismissing me, taking my money, and doing nothing about it. Disgusting customer service!!!

Fraudulent Secondary Shipping Charge

Be very careful. I placed an order for over $200.00. Web site clearly states FREE SHIPPING ACROSS CANADA WITH ORDERS OVER $200.00. Much to my surprise, I am going though my statement a few weeks latter and there is a charge for $25.00 I never approved or even new about. I contact them and get this, PEI is considered remote by them so they decided to add on an extra charge. Now I did not major in Georgraphy, and quite frankly I probably suck at it, but last time I checked, even though PEI is an island it is part of Candad as per confederation. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your recent transaction. We understand that you have some concerns about an additional remote shipping fee that was applied to your order. We would like to provide you with more information about this charge. So here is what they wrote which I cannot find on the web site. Our shipping department found it necessary to apply this fee in order to deliver your order to the address you provided. This decision was made based on the remoteness of the location. We strive to be transparent about our delivery policies, and we want to assure you that this charge is in accordance with those policies. As stated in our delivery policies, "An additional charge will be applied where the origin or destination point is deemed by us to be remote or is not serviced directly by us." We hope this explanation helps to clarify why the additional fee was applied. We hope this explains. This is nowhere to be fouond, and I aksed them to show me where it is on the web site and this was the next response. Thank you for your response Unfortunately under these circumstances, your request does not warrant compensation. So, you can run a business and after the fact of paying the invoice which had the deleivery address on it, decide what you want and what to charge? This is really not right and in my mind decitful and fraudulent. Of course I called my credit card company and they reveresed the charge, but they should not have to eat the $25.00. Of course it is not a large amount, and if they were upfront I would accept it, but it is the principle of the matter.

Scam!

I'd give zero stars if I could. This company is a scam! We can't schedule a delivery even though they ask you for a delivery date, there's no customer service and you can't cancel an order. But they only show you good reviews on their website. I wish I had seen their reviews in Google before ordering.

What you see is NOT what you get

I guess I should have looked at all the terrible reviews before I experienced for myself to write my own. What I ordered and what I got two VERY different products. Very disappointing customer service when it was not delivered in my 2 days I paid for and no concern on their end of my happiness. I will not EVER purchase anything from this company. Canada's #1 is VERY far fetched.

Very Disappointed

My son lives in a condo near downtown Vancouver. When their daughter was born I ordered a gift basket from Hazeltons. It was "delivered" the following day but was never received. When I enquired I got a photo of a beautiful basket sitting in front of their door about 4 feet from a very busy Vancouver street. It had, of course, been stolen. They had my son's number and could have called prior to delivery. Or they could have called to arrange alternate delivery. Instead they left it sitting beside a busy sidewalk.

Ordered chocolate covered strawberries…

Ordered chocolate covered strawberries as a gift to a friend and they were delivered rotten, with mold and smelling like garbage. They claimed it wasn't their fault because we didn't pay same day shipping (which shouldn't be customers responsibility when they already charge so much for regular shipping) when instead having a business means they should have the means to delivered perishable items cold and fresh. Embarrassing company.

Bad company

Bad company. Do not order here. Total rip-off . For $100 we got mushed up cupcakes, broken cookies, cheap tray - and the four beer were missing. I had to go searching for parcel after it was two days late. Very bad customer service also. Wanted me to send pic. How can I send a pic of beer that didn’t come?

Terrible customer service!! avoid at all costs

I used this company to send a surprise birthday gift to my friend in Canada as I live in Australia. What a mistake…I ordered red velvet cupcakes.. they turned up 3 days late and were in horrible condition and obviously inedible.. when I contacted the company all I got back was that they have a 5 day policy and because I had not complained within this time they would not do anything. No explanation or apology for the late delivery or the ruined product!! Most unhelpful company I have ever dealt with.. Honestly do not use this company !!! It’s a waste of your time and your money. I tried to leave a negative review on their website but they would allow it so this speaks volumes to me..

Worst gift basket & company to deal with

The basket I ordered for my dads Father’s Day was completely different than what was advertised, the packaging of what was sent was completely unprofessional and looked disgusting for the price of the basket. In all my years of ordering gift baskets, this was the worst company to order from, quality wise, presentation wise, and then dealing with them post purchase. Upon emailing them my issues with the presents of the basket and items sent that were completely different, I was given multiple paragraphs on the “T&C’s” stating no refunds…. I didn’t even ask for one, I was only emailing them my concerns. This speaks volumes to this company. I Will never order from them again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else.

A blatant bad faith operation... Fraudulent and questionable legality

I ordered a wine and cheese basket for my parents for Christmas via pairingsclub.com . I paid $275 for 6 deliveries spread over 12 months. They delivered the first, and then charged my credit card for each subsequent delivery. When I flagged this to them their responses avoided the questions I asked always leading me around in a circular fashion. We traded more than 100 emails back and forth where they blamed me for making additional orders every 2 months and never admitted to putting an unauthorized repeating charge on my card. I had to contact my credit card company and dispute the charge. They finally relented once the credit card company contacted them. As soon as they agreed to refund me they very likely sold my card number to a fraud operation which pumped +$1000 of unauthorized charges (that my credit card company removed) into my card. Avoid them and any related websites like the plaque.

Scam - do NOT use!!!

Would give this zero stars if possible. Huge rip off and no customer service whatsoever. I spoke to both Olivia and Valerie and both were pathetic, sad individuals (Valerie was a particular brand of horrible human being). I paid for a lot of expensive and quality items which they substituted for cheap subpar items. Not only that, they guaranteed my next day delivery and it got “held up”, so the chocolate covered strawberries and grapes I paid for were mouldy and inedible on arrival. When I complained they kept sending me links to their substitutions policy, despite me asking them to escalate to someone who matters, several times. By the way, the substitutions policy explicitly states that they will only substitute the odd item with items that are of equal or greater value. Nowhere does it say they will substitute ALL expensive items for cheap, lousy items. So they are happy to breach their own policies and defraud people, completely blatantly as well. Disgusting pathetic company. DO NOT USE

Horrible Experience!!!!

Horrible experience! I am left feeling so embarrassed. I sent friends - who are in mourning a "sympathy" basket. Not only was the order not fulfilled as per what I had chosen, but customer service has been a total joke! All I am getting is a runaround from one CSR to another from a generic CSR group email. Not one phone call back after placing several. The 1-800 is another joke. No one picks up, always same BS mssg to leave a message & a call back in 2 hours - I have waited a day already and NO CALL BACK! How can this company operate in such a manner as to not have the common courtesy to address a complaint with a phone call by a rep who is actually willing to help!?! Customer Service should try to reach a reasonable solution for both the customer and the company. I'm not asking for a full refund. I am asking for the courtesy of a phone call to find out what went wrong and how both parties receive a fair outcome.

Don't bother!

Obviously don't care about the quality or aesthetics of what they send, nor do they value their customers or stand behind their promises of quality in any capacity. Somehow the only policy they care about is the policy that indicates they can substitute any product in the gift baskets. In my case they substituted almost all of the cheese from the "Cheesemonger" box with all duplicated cheeses (2 of about 7 varieties instead of the 12 different ones advertised), all of which can be purchased at any grocery store. Far from the basket for "cheese connoisseurs" as described! Will never order from this company again and recommend you don't either!

Excellent experience!!

We ordered the “beer a year in a crate” for our sons 30th birthday and honestly, I was so upset and worried after I placed the order and came accross all of these negative reviews. But I can tell you we were pleasantly surprised. We placed our order April 2nd and the delivery arrived at his workplace, as promised by the company, on his birthday April 5th, it was packed with care and nothing was broken - there was a personalized card that I had added our own words to and that was included - my son was thrilled with the gift and that’s the most important thing. Would I use this company again, absolutely 👍🏼

Utterly poor service & greedy business

Utterly poor service, upon asking for order cancellation only vague answers were given. On top of which wrong product was delivered. Then when asked for a refund they state the customer agreed to not being eligible for a refund by accepting our terms & conditions. Wouldn't recommend this store to anyone. They should be shut down ASAP.

AVOID THIS COMPANY …..

They have a great web site so I expected decent service. AVOID THIS COMPANY . I placed an order 5 days prior to an anniversary. I got a message on the day of due delivery that all the balloons broke and they will be delivering without balloons . I should have read the reviews first . I called and left over 10 messages , no one ever returns a call , there is no one to speak to.I believe this to be a scam. I would give it a zero if I could. Really poor customer service !!! Avoid , Avoid , AVOID . I just called the 1-800 number and they were sooo rude. My basket never arrived and when I complained , the girl said “ it’s only a basket , get over it “. I have never encountered such a bad unprofessional company . They should not be in business . I will be contacting Visa for a charge back . DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!!
