Must do a lot better
The installation, was carried out neatly, although it seemed that the router was positioned in the wrong place, My previous BT router had been positioned in the middle of my flat. The installers carried out a speed test with their laptop right next to the router. The speed was excellent. The installers asked where all my equipment was located and assured me that it would be ok, but they did not do another speed test. Later in the day, when I could use all my computers, located at the other end of my flat, the speeds were terrible, less than a third of what I was getting with BT. As an IT consultant, I am used to dealing with new client installations, and this terrible speed was due to the distance from the router. Almost daily conversations with various members of staff. One did spend an hour on the phone trying to resolve the problem, but without success. I had been told that my landline would only switch over, at the end of my BT contract, and due to the very poor speeds with the Wessex installation, I was still using my BT router. The landline was switched over successfully, months before the end of my contract, and within hours, BT had switched off my router, and I lost access to my emails. The email problem was resolved, and then, I got a huge bill from BT for finishing my contract early. I had tried several different range extenders of my own, which did improve things, but the promised speeds were not there. Letters to directors and senior staff, went unanswered. The problem with the early termination of my contact may have been resolved. After many more conversations with different staff members, I was sent their own "booster" (range extender), and I purchased a very expensive external wireless adapter. This booster was extremely slow in arriving (10 days). My main desktop computer has always been hard wired, and now with the wireless adapter the speeds are better, but still not even up to the promised speeds. At some stage, I will hard wire, as before, but its a fairly major job. All this could have been avoided, had the initial external installers, done as BT had, and brought the external cables in to the middle of my flat. Some of the telephone conversations were most unsatisfactory, sticking rigidly to the company line, instead of trying to resolve matters.
