Giving one star only because I can't give 0. My deposit money is still outstanding, have not received a single pound back and I have chased this multiple times through their accountancy team, who have never even acknowledged my emails. I have then escalated this as a formal complaint, but I never received a response back. I have called the customer services more times than I can remember, but they don't seem to be able to do anything other than "mark" my request as urgent - but they have allegedly been doing that every time, and yet here I am, with no money being returned. Absolutely diabolical service. Stay clear and don't book with them. They have breached their own T&Cs and contract and they just don't seem to care, happily not returning customers' money.
Absolutely terrible experience with National Vehicle Rentals. We hired a van in August and paid a £250 deposit, which was confirmed for refund after the vehicle was returned with no damage. It’s now been months, and the deposit still hasn’t been returned. They never answer the phone — every call involves waiting nearly an hour, only to reach someone who says they can’t help and that the finance team “isn’t available.” We’ve sent multiple emails, including a formal complaint, which has been completely ignored. This company clearly has no interest in customer service or accountability. Taking people’s money, refusing to issue refunds, and ignoring complaints is unacceptable. Avoid at all costs — they took our deposit and have provided no resolution whatsoever.
Looks like i am going to have problems getting my deposit back. Keep passing the buck. Also charged me for a full tank of fuel but when the car arrived the tank was empty. Really disappointing as i cant afford to lose £250.00 !!

Awful experience. Van was really battered but then for the collection they kept changing their minds on. when they would collect despite us agreeing a very specific pick up date / time. To add to this, they have been sitting on our security deposit for about 3 months now. I have been chasing weekly and keep getting lots of apologies, but the deposit is not forthcoming. They've stopped replying now so it appears they just decided to take our refundable deposit.
Hired a Luton van twice with a short time in between hires (April 2025). Received one refund of the £250 deposit after a couple of months of asking but I find myself still waiting for the second, some 5-6 months since I returned the van. They are very good in apologising but keep saying they are going to speak to their finance team. Same story each time I chase. Off to the card company now to see what they can do. Wouldn’t hire from them again.
I was very happy when I found that I was able to book an extra long Luton van as I have to move an item that is slightly longer than the standard Luton. The booking process was lengthy as I had to send driving licence details for both drivers as well as proof of address. I got a confirmation but this was just a web page. I expected a confirmation email but got nothing. This meant that I had to spend 25 minutes on hold the following morning. I was only able to get through to reception who could not assist but promised a call back from the reservations team. Nothing. I phoned again later in the day and waited 26 minutes on hold this time. Same again - reception, who could not help. I eventually received an email to say that the vehicle was not available and they could offer no alternative. I must have wasted over 2 hours dealing with this firm. Its now close of business on Friday and I needed the van urgently for Wednesday. So much for a National Firm. Hopeless
I attempted to rent a LWB Luton for a house move. The website states 'No Deposit' however at the final stage tried to take £250 deposit. I had to agree to their terms and conditions, however when you click on them the page is blank (on all browsers). I wanted to check their locations...click the button and they remain visible for less than 1/2 a second. Called their main number to check all of the above...I gave up after being on hold for 16 minutes. This is especially concerning as being able to contact the company in the evident of a problem is vital, especially after moving home. After giving up on the phone, I emailed them using their online form...never received a response back. I have never known a company fail across so many areas however looking at other reviews, it would appear this is another company formed on a budget, believeing they are doing the customer a favour. I don't get it...a company lives or dies on the quality of its customer service...shocking!
Had to wait for 3 hours for the delivery of the van at Manchester airport, inside the van was muddy from the driver, he stated he came from London that’s why he was so late , had the vehicle for 2 months we returned the van polished and clean, when we got back to Australia they sent an email saying the van was inspected and we will get our refund back , nearly 3months and four phone calls and a heap of emails and still no deposit WARNING do NOT use this company , I am seeking advise from a solicitor and ombudsman
I hired a vehicle for 24 hours on 27th June 2025. The vehicle broke down during that 24 hour period and The AA ran diagnostics and found multiple intermittent faults which deemed the vehicle not fit for house removals. I have continued to chase my deposit of £250 ever since and I’m still waiting. They don’t respond to emails, don’t respond to the contact form on their website, if you’re lucky enough to get through on the phone then the staff are friendly and professional however they’re unable to process the refunds themselves, or you can wait on hold for over an hour only to realise the phone will never be answered. Good luck if you opt to hire a vehicle with this company!

Read this carefully. Do not use this company! I am a business journalist (BBC, ITN, Reuters, Money Channel, Euronews). I rented a van from NVR in the summer. It was not fit for purpose. Many issues followed, mainly you will find it very difficult to talk to anyone from the actual company. They hide behind agents. Steer clear.
I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Nationwide Vehicle Rentals (NVR). Despite returning the hire vehicle in perfect condition, the company has failed to refund my £500 deposit relating to reservation. After weeks of chasing and repeated broken promises, I was forced to send a formal 'Letter Before Action' on 2nd October 2025, which was completely ignored. As of today, I have filed a legal claim against NVR and will not hesitate to escalate this matter further if required. To make matters worse, it appears that NVR’s ICO registration number (ZA532627) listed on their website does not exist, meaning the company may not be lawfully registered under the Data Protection Act 2018 — a serious concern given that they handle customer personal and financial data. The new Managing Director, Liam McKenzie, who took the post on 1st August 2025, does not appear to be addressing these serious operational and compliance issues, and my experience suggests a complete lack of accountability at the top level. I would strongly advise others to avoid this company until they demonstrate transparency, proper regulation, and a willingness to treat customers fairly.

Do not use this car rental. We booked to them last 23/08/2025 and until now we are still chasing them for our deposit. Called them, emailed them. Nothing happened. ☹️ We don’t know they they will refund us !!!
It is now 2nd October, over seven weeks since the van was collected on 3rd August, and despite repeated assurances and “escalations,” my £250 deposit has still not been refunded. To date, I have received no written confirmation that the refund has even been processed, and the invoice recently sent incorrectly shows the deposit as “outstanding,” despite this payment being made in full prior to the rental. This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about how this matter is being handled.
Needed a vehicle at short notice, and they delivered—literally! The van was at my door within hours, clean and ready to go. Superb service.
