Michaels Stores has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.

I had excellent experiences with several associated at the Newport News Virginia store. Kayla in custom framing was wonderful. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful about custom framing. This is very reassuring when spending a good bit of money on a loved piece of art/photo. Angie and Peyton were terrific helping me find my way in the store. I don't often shop there, but now that I am retired I'm getting back into projects at home and will definitely be back!
Knowledge of clearance item I wanted to purchase. A scrapbook was with clearance items indicated 70% off on sign. No price sticker on product, the guy that came to help clerk offered 30%off and clerk explained that it was kind of beat up on the edges. So, I declined to purchase.
This store has no cross stitch books so we went to another store to buy those Sorry
Loved shopping, loved what I bought, and I completed a survey. I got a thank you gift-a coupon that expired the day before it was sent. Not impressed.
I live in Roseburg, OR. What an awesome store! I love the variety of crafts, deals and sales and the atmosphere. During my visit, I was approached by an employee by the name of Emalee, whom had a positive can-do attitude, extremely helpful, and patient. (Plus-she actually made me laugh! Which isn’t easy to do) Although, Michael’s didn’t have what I needed- Emalee provided me with a list of alternative products, explained how to use the product and even gave me a few “pro-tips” that made my project easy, and fun, with professional results. What a delight!
I bought multiple items and told the staff I would write 3 reviews as I bought 3 separate times. He was friendly each time, very happy to help me find what I was looking for with very positive energy. Very friendly staff. Way to go Robin. -reviewed as well on their site and on Google
Dwayne was a sales person who is also an artist in the Charlottesville Virginia area. He spoke with me about my art and helped me pick just the right supplies for what I was looking to do. I really loved his positive attitude and friendly nature!
Chris from store #5738 provided exceptional customer service. They were so kind, knowledgeable, and helped answer all of our questions. It was a wonderful experience and we left feeling so excited to start using our new products. Thank you Chris for everything we sincerely appreciate all of your help!!
I am a retired physician, my profile is available on LinkedIn (see posts). Decades ago I was awarded admittance to a public high school in NYC dedicated to art. Nevertheless my course in life was to become a physician - absolutely no regrets. It was refreshing to find a store like “Michael’s” that in an “arts and crafts” way endorses creativity and the “arts”. I purchased from Michael’s a silver leaf frame for my masonic emblem - it looks very nice. From my perspective, the “arts” are very important. It can lend itself to other things - for instance the “art of medicine” - the “art of life” - Michael’s is to be applauded for their efforts.
Shopping Michael’s is a delight to the eyes. It is always clean and organized. I generally can find what I came for, or an acceptable substitute, but just as often, I cannot. Prices are higher than other craft shops and often surprise me. I do a lot of business with the custom frame shop. Whether I want to frame something “from the ground up,” or need to have an item repaired, every member of the frame shop knows me and remembers my name, but best of all they are knowledgeable and helpful. I usually trust their judgement. The one time that I didn’t like the finished product the framer asked me to bring the item back in and they would work with me until I was satisfied with the final product - all at no extra cost. I was surprised they would do this, but very pleased. My only issue with the custom frame shop is that the discount sales advertising is difficult to understand. Signs will state 70% off yet a small custom frame will still be well over $100. Frame repair is usually reasonably priced and the result is amazing, often better than new. My last complaint regards the reward program. I will have received an email notice that I have earned a $5 reward. Since I’m not a crafter and I shop Michael’s for framing and decor items I do not come in every week. When I do, I find that all of my $5 rewards are gone, apparently expired. This is very disappointing.
An associate named Mikaleigh just assisted me at the Promenade Michael’s store #9023. She was so extraordinarily kind and helpful. She is amazing!!! I purchased flowers and a basket for my deceased twins grandchildren’s cemetery, and she went above and beyond to help me. So thankful for Mikaleigh’s assistance today💕
Often, items listed "on sale" are out of stock or have been discontinued....easy to put something on sale that is totally unavailable! Some cashiers need additional training; on a recent visit, I did receive my vetran's discount, but the cashier shorted me $1. on the change. She simply dumped the change into my hand instead of counting it out to me. $1 short, wiped out my discount....please train your cashiers. I did not discover the error until I had left the store, so I couldn't just go back in & tell her about it. Guess I've learned a lesson about checking my change in front of the cashier!
My husband had purchased on line a Circuit machine for a Anniversary gift for me , you can imagine my excitement when it arrived, tryed to install it using utube on 3 devices (without a Manual as non in box) for hrs finally I called called into customer support calmly explained my situation …..1st lady I was hung up on and afte 4 more calls , I given the complete run around , I called called in 5 times , each time being told a either email would be sent out immediately to return UNUSED item or told I had to contact Cricut themselves going through a series of troubleshooting with them & then if no success I needed to receive a letter from them to return NEW faulty $447.00 machine …, I was appalled i finally emailed customer support and someone there emailed back saying she apologized and I was given wrong information and with receipt I could make the hr drive to closest Michaels to get full refund ! I went and they were wonderful , so polite, I will NEVER make a on line purchase from Micheals again due to this very negative experience…. I’d strongly advise caution with dealing with them for anyone buying big ticket items …, & if there was a minus star, I’d of given them a minus -*10. Disgusting customer service.
Hello, My name is Jared Clark. I was at Michael's today to pick up an order I had made online. The order had to be reshipped for some reason but aside from a few days late, I was able to finally pick it up. When I went to pick it up, I was asked to wait for a manager's verification. When she arrived, she made it clear that I shouldn't have had this order sent to the store and in the future to have it sent to my home. The issue being that the store had no way of contacting me or even to scan in the delivery, due to it not being delivered by UPS. She was polite but firm that any orders like this need to be delivered to my home. That is a problem for me. I'm not currently living in a residential situation. I am homeless, but in my unfortunate circumstances I have been able to learn from the ordeal. I have tapped into my artistic side recently & have discovered I'm quite good at cosplay. That's actually being modest; I would consider myself advanced. Even using the underbelly of a bridge as my home/workshop I've been able to create some very interesting and magnificent suits or costumes. And I'm actually going to my city's version of ComiCon this year, called SiliCon in San Jose to see if I can "play with the big dogs". None of this is useful to you, so I'll move on. The point is that I don't wish to make anyone's workday any worse than they already can be. I know the stresses of retail and the people who do it never get paid enough. I do however need to purchase product from your company. When making cosplay, EVA foam is kind of a requirement. I explained that there was nothing on the website stating where I was required to send certain orders, but that I understood and would try a different approach next time. Perhaps you could suggest another idea for a place to have my Michael's order sent for pick up, other than a home address which I don't have? Maybe the company could introduce some other methods of accepting deliveries for the customer? Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to read thus far. I hope you have a good rest of your day. Sincerely, Jared Clark
Laura at store #3908 was excellent! Laura worked hard to get me the best possible discount and did so with such positive and bright energy. Love that kind of customer service! Thank you Laura 😁
Cathy at store #2022 on Pine Ridge Road Naples FL 34109 was so wonderful helping me and my mom check out with knitting and other crafts supplies. Great person, very patient, sweet and knowledgeable. Thank you so much, Cathy ❤️
I love Michael’s decorations the staff is always ready to help you!
Going to Michael's is like going to a toy store for crafts. I could spend hours there. I was very pleased at the selection of EVERYTHING especially the tie dye supplies. Michael's is a fantabulous store...the only draw back is the prices of some items. They can be very way overpriced but if you're looking for to make a unique gift then Michael's is the place to go.
I’ve visited the #3623 / 2210-F branch, and would like to commend both Derek and Orianna for their great help and professional assistance.
