Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE.......... I had been happy with Economy Energy until my tariff was up. They sent a new tariff offer through which i rang to accept to be told it was not available. I was therefore forced to leave due increases in bills for the future. I gave mtr rdgs to old and new supplier i the same day. EE continued to take DD from my bank despite me being in credit balance between my gas/elec. they raised bills but did not use my mtr readings, so still waiting for final bills.. how long before i get my money back who knows. asked to speak to supervisor and refused by customer service agent as i was no longer a customer....... AVOID

Like most reviewers my experience with Economy Energy is very bad. I switched away from them due to poor experience and their change to a higher tariff without notice. Getting final statements was a nightmare and achieved only after written complaints. These statements show I am in credit to an amount of £330. Payment was promised within the week but not received. I have continually chased by "live chat" but get contradictory excuses and no payment. My written complaints get no response so I have now referred the case to the Ombudsman. Robin

Just few examples of their practices: 1. Ignoring my meter readings (which I submit every month regularly) and issuing bills based on estimated readings, always much higher then actual ones. I complained several times in the last 12 months, with no effects. 2. Sending emails about "seriously overdue account" BEFORE the paper bill reaches my home address. Outrageous. 3. Recently, my gas meter reading history has disappeared from my account completely, to my confusion I learnt I have got a top-up credit meter (never). Payment history also has disappeared. I endured this for over 1 year, giving them too many chances to improve. Tomasz

Early August I had £110 outstanding on my gas bill. I called to pay it off as I was switching to a new company and was told I couldn’t pay it off right now it would have to come out in my monthly direct debit instead. Paid £110 in my direct debit at the end of August. Received a ‘cancelled payment plan’ letter from EE a couple of days after paying the £110 so I assumed I was no longer a customer with them. How wrong I was.. turns out I was still a customer for gas as they had put a block on my new energy companies attempts to switch. Found out when they took another £110 the next month. I called them to find out what was going on and they were extremely rude about it on the phone. A month later they sent me what should have been a final electric bill but they got their dates and calculations wrong. So if I had paid it I can only assume I’d have received a final final electric bill eventually. I had to call them to suggest that the money they owed me for the gas over payments could be used to pay off the electric. I have put in a request for a refund for the remainder of the gas but I could not be given a time frame as to when that might be processed. Other irritating things happened throughout the year I was with them.. - I stopped receiving text requests for meter readings. - They started calling me to ask for readings instead but were so pushy and rude I assumed it was a scam. - Their ‘forgot password’ Link didn’t work so I was unable to access my account online. -I was told on the phone that their online meter reading system was down so I couldn’t submit readings online anyway. - Another system was down which meant they couldn’t access my account and bill history when talking over the phone. (NEXUM system failure) I’ve been on the phone to them so much I could sing you the hold tune if you asked me to. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Don’t go near them!!

Beware I believe this company may be experiencing cash flow problems. I was with them for about a year, up to July 2018. I decided to change my electricity supplier, as Economy Online's quote for the following year was to high. My final reading was submitted when I changed to another company, at the end of July. Despite numerous phone calls and emails, they failed, for three month, to credit my account with the funds which resulted from my overpayments. Only after I threatened them with action through the energy ombudsman did they reimburse me.

Ive had no problems with economy energy throughout my contract. However it's all started to fall apart at the end when I WANT money back. I have credit on my account & this is has been ongoing since 15/9/18. Originally told it would be 21days. So 21 days comes & goes...... Guess what - no money in my account 😠. Spoke to someone via online chat who then proceeded to tell me it actually takes 28days. So the then 28 days comes & goes...... Still no money. Money was due in 19th October. Rung them & said they have up until 5pm to get the money into my account. Well guess what again still NO money. Rung the next day to find out why. Then told me a actually 28days was not up yet. This would be the 24th October so I gave them benefit of the doubt ( I gave them them few more days before contacting them again) still NOTHING. Rung Friday 26/10/18. Told the person handling my case wasn't in & would ring me back when she started working. Obviously no phone call. Rung this morning to be told the money got requested again 17th October so now I have to wait another 19days before I even see any refund. Absolutely joke...... So it's taken them 3 times to request this refund to be told originally it had been requested 15/9/18. Been told they can't rush it through as they have a back log. Well from reading these reviews....... No wonderful why because everyone is wanting there money back. Also put a complaint in & been told he complaint has been closed...... What's the point in complaining for it not to be processed & looked into. Talk about brushing thing's under the carpet 😠😠😠😠 OMBUDSMAN HERE WE COME!!!! *TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE * BAD COMMUNICATIONS *LIES I would have originally said to go with this company now I would say AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!

Do not sign up to this company. They have no respect for customers I am awaiting a refund of £500 due to overpayment since leaving in July. I have had to generate a complaint with the company who have been no help at all. I have now contacted the Energy Ombudsman as well has considering taking out court action via the small claims court. In conclusion avoid at all cost.

Not very good at all. We had a very bad experience with them as an energy provider during our final year of university. Firstly, customer service is bad. We were good customers but when you call them it's as if they don't want to talk to you at all. Secondly, they cut off our power during the year for NO REASON. We paid all our bills very much on time, however one day they cut us off. When they finally picked up the phone they said "Oh it looks like we accidentally switched you to a pay & go account and you hadn't paid." Absolutely appalling. They switched it back but with not much of an apology, They then told us we had more money to pay at the end of the year despite us giving readings, but we paid that on time and that was all fine. Cut forward several months, we get a call from them demanding more money from us, around £300. We tell them that we don't but the woman on the phone is getting loud and is still persistent. After being on hold for a few minutes... "Oh, looks like somebody didn't put your last payment through. Don't worry about it we'll get that sorted for you". Unbelievable. I half expect them to call again demanding more money. The company is not professional at all. I wish we had gone with a better known energy provider with a better reputation. We went with Economy because it was advertised as being cheaper but in the end, with all the "extra charges" they added because of the times of year, it probably didn't save us any money and just made us stressed.
