Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Same as everyone else on here, they are intentionally trying to hold on to Β£300 of credit built up over our time with them by overcharging monthly. Despite promises to refund we still haven't received this in the four months since we switched. Go with a reputable firm even if they're a little dearer.

Account closed on the 30th Sept, they advised that it would take up to 6 weeks to final bill and credit. Called them at 4 weeks said that they had the final readings and would final bill, then I should call to ask for Β£300 balance back. Called again at 6 weeks and had to ask again for them to final bill, which this time, they managed to do! Asked for refund to be arranged, said they couldn't do and would need to call back when I could see the final bill online. Called the following day to ask for refund, they say will arrange but will take about another 4 weeks before this will be arranged...Massive backlog in refund apparently.

I would not consider this as feedback at this early stage of our NEW relationship. It is simply too early in the NEW tariff to say anything. This company is by far the most incapable organisation I have ever had the misfortune to get hooked into using. After a brief stint using them at the start over a year ago, making a complaint and getting out of the agreement with a supervisor waiving the Β£25 withdrawal fee, they start chasing me 8 months later and now I cant make them stop. They phone me from a robot caller multiple times an hour. They send me a threatening bills, they have called me and said they will pass this to the baliffs. They then passed the Β£25 to Baliffs. Then they accepted I do not owe the money. This didn't stop it though. Still get bills, I call, they apologise, assure me the account will be closed, then a week or days go by and this happens again. The cycle goes around and around and around. They are not capable of doing what they say. I am not paying the Β£25 on principle! Stay well clear of this company based ln my personal experience..

Switched from EConomy Energy back in July. Final statement received in credit for the sum of Β£287. Customers services failed to action my refund twice! I have been receiving conflicting information that I would have my money within 10 working days, last week that increased to 28 days, today they cannot tell me any timescale! I raised a complaint over two weeks ago with no response. Phone call after phone call and still I get the same response βthereβs a backlogβ Basically I am no further forward now than I was back in July. They way they treat their current and past customers is truly barbaric. Costumer service is shocking, how they can continue to trade is beyond me, they have terms and conditions to adhere to and already way in breach of this. OMBUDSMAN is the only way forward.

Two months up front followed by a handful of months being overcharged to the tune of a 3 figure sum. Switch for a better deal and they continue to take money by DD after I have ceased being a customer even though I am massively in credit. Complaint results in zero action (other than automated email) after one week. Even get a letter complaining about me cancelling the DD so they can't go on swiping my money. Complain about that letter and get a repetition of that letter the same day. Best be one hell of a deal for anyone to consider this outfit. The Economy part of their name would appear to be all about the company's economy, not their customers. Oh, and an estimated 2 months possibly before I get my money refunded. Update 19/11/18: Now two months since the switch date and over a month since Jess' reply on behalf of Economy energy below. We did agree the amount owing to me and I was told four weeks ago that a cheque has been requested. Well it has still to arrive, despite a reminder three weeks ago. This company apparently cares more about their cash flow than customer satisfaction (financial controller's policy wins out over customer services or social media/PR). No reasons to change my star rating, if anything I'd like to make it less than 1 star but that doesn't appear to be an option. Looks like the only way I'm going to get my (several) hundreds back might be via the courts, always assuming they don't go bust beforehand. Update 07/01/19: Still cannot get through on the phone due to "technical difficulties" and neither can Citizens Advice who have tried to help but run up against the same impenetrable brick wall that I have. E-mails are ignored apart from generic "acknowledgement of receipt". Legal action precludes using the Ombudsman, so I have tried this route first. Seen anecdotal reports that this is the only thing Economy Energy take note of. Update 08/01/19: Gone bust - no surprise.

An absolute disgrace This company have no idea what customer service is. All they are interested in is taking as much money from you and then holding onto it. I switched suppliers in September and they continued to take DD payments (I have had to claim them back through the DD Guarantee) and then just stall and stall paying back any overpayment they owe you. They have no complaints department which says it all. Their web site is hit and miss, and their staff never do what they say they will. I will be reporting them to the Ombudsman. Stay away from this company at all cost.
