A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Are we seeing a pattern here? Despite leaving Economy Energy in August after they doubled the rate of the tariff that they recommended I move to two weeks earlier, they continued to take money from my account. Waited 2.5 months for a final bill and still haven't received a refund. Call centre are less than useless. Refunds department appears to be a blind octogenarian with a ledger writing 2 cheques per day. If I worked for this company I would be ashamed.

All I want is a final bill. To end this nightmare.. 3 months later no refund has been sent to my account... your happy to take my money but when you owe money it's like getting blood out of a stone... It's laughable that this is my third review I even said it to the guy online he didn't care.. neither do I to be honest.. I can write these all day......

Awful after care and customer service. I’ve been told for months I’d receive a refund automatically for the 170 my account was in credit for after direct debits at my annual review, only to continually hear they now have ‘no time frame’ for processing refunds. They also have internal or external contact with the refunds department so there is no way of finding out when, if ever they are processing your refund.Whilst waiting for refund I was also charged a further direct debit despite no longer being a customer of theirs. Again to be told the money has no time frame to be refunded. Worst provider I’ve ever been with it’s been extremely disappointed in the service, and still waiting on my refund.

What a shambles this company is can't wait for me to leave so the problem is someone else's. they kept calling saying we are in your area we can change your meters to smart meters I told them no as my solar system I have actually feeds back to the meter which in turn turns the meter backwards saving me on average £30/40 per month. these people went ahead and changed my meters without my knowledge or consent now they want me to pay £100 to refit a meter which I paid for in the first place, was designed for my system they tell me they haven't got it but we will get you one for a £100. they have just sent me an email telling me my contact has finished she meant contract I can go to another company, what for so they can clean your mess up since I've they changed the meters my electric has gone up £40 per month

Left Economy Energy on 15/4/18 when we changed to One Select. My home is fitted with smart meters which they fitted on the 11/11/17 . So they have 24/7 access to both readings, what a joke. I was told the amount what would be returned to me after i asked & give them a final reading in April would be £69.00 for electric & £170.00 for gas, this was within a few pence but not exact. Later that month we got a final electric bill which was £67.55p but never got the gas bill or refund for electric bill. Since then 10 plus phone calls later over 7 months still not sorted. Today i have been told by samantha i cannot make a complaint by email as they are not accepting them due to a backlog. i have asked to speak to someone higher up every time i phone them with no luck. This company must be one of the worst i have ever had the misfortune to deal with. The customer service team must dread going in to work every day, With the customers not getting any joy or money back which is legally owed to them. This company needs shutting down by Ofgem. 7 months on, no money returned & no final gas bill sent, Smart Meters whats the point.

I left economy energy in August both my accounts were in credit but as yet I have not received my refund. I spoke to a lady yesterday who advised me I must request my refund they don’t automatically send it even though the final bill states due for payment. I gather that only applies when you owe economy energy money not when they owe you money. I have been advised that I should receive my refund within 28days even though it’s already 3 months since I left them. Watch this space
