A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Avoid this company at all costs

Avoid this company at all costs! I moved house in June this year and switched my supplier. After doing this I looked at my final bill and I was in credit with my electricity. My gas bill however had been used by estimated meter readings and was saying i owed over £100. I had texts asking for small payments of £8 which was left on my gas bill which I paid so was confused with the estimated read of £100. I rang up and was told the billing department were behind and it will be sorted soon. 5 months on and it still has not been sorted. I have gone onto my account today my gas bill is however £0 and my electricity £77 in credit. I contacted someone on live chat and there still saying I owe the £100 even though my account says different. I don't even have any meter readings for gas on my account anymore they have been deleted. I have now got to wait AGAIN!! For an email of a finalised bill when they actually do it correctly. I reckon they have lost my actual meter readings! I will be contacting my letting agents to see if they have these for me so I have proof if they try to tell me I still owe money to them!!!

Switched energy company in June 2018

Switched energy company in June 2018, Economy Energy finally refunded for electricity in October and am still waiting for £160 to be credited for my gas. Try to call the company and they put the phone down. Tried online chat and they ended the conversation. Don't respond to emails. ******AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS***

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!

Would give no stars if that were a choice. We bitterly regret signing up with EE. They have increased our DD way over the amount of electricity we consume; we cannot check anything on our account because we haven't had a statement since MAY 2018!!!! We're on the wrong tariff; we've been promised many times this will be corrected but without any action being taken. Emailed Complaints - 3+ weeks later still no response (despite claiming they respond within 10 working days); phoned the only published number today - can't be put through to Complaints as there is no contact number!! We have fears about ever getting a resolution to our complaint, having read the numerous reports about this company's appalling record. At best this is a terribly inefficient company - at worst ....?? Stashing the money owed to so many customers must be making this company a lot of ££££££s. We will be following advice given by other reviewers and taking this to the small-claims court. 27th November: Finally had a response from Complaints Dept. They've checked my account and it is £863 in credit!!!!!! Niamh has promised we are now on the correct (single) tariff and she will email a reviewed proposed direct debit "within the week" and arrange a refund. However..... the refund will take 10 to 15 working days and no interest will be paid ?! Apparently EE "do not get any interest" from holding our money over 6 months - ???? We wait to see whether their promises are kept.

Economy Energy not refunding almost £500 credit balance on account closure

Economy Energy are an atrocious company to do business with. Please do not touch them with a barge pole, however cheap they seem. They are refusing to refund almost £500 credit balance on my closed account, having needlessly increased my direct debit in January and allowing a huge credit balance to accrue.Apparently they are simply not issuing refunds and have no time frame when they will be able to do so. It wouldn't surprise me if Economy Energy are on the brink of insolvency or unable to meet their financial obligations. I'm giving them to the end of the week to resolve them contacting the ombudsman and Ofgem.

Having left this company over 3 months…

Having left this company over 3 months ago, I am still yet to receive back the over £300 they owe me for overcharging me for months, and furthermore continued to take money from my bank account without my consent even after I switched to a new supplier, and is not forthcoming returning the money. Have contacted them more than 25 times regarding this same issue with no resolution. Time to report to the ombudsman and OFGEM for a nice big fine.

Avoid this company.

I've been with Economy Energy since Oct 2017, within weeks of my contract starting my power went off; I called customer services & they told me that there had been some training on smart meters, during which they'd remotely changed customers to pre-pay but didn't record which customers they'd used & waited on the complaints to come in in order to rectify their mistakes. My billing has been incorrect for the full year and despite numerous calls, chats & emails I'm still on economy 7 & not the correct tariff. Despite my monthly usage being less than half what they're taking by direct debit, they INCREASED what they take each month and will not refund the over-payment which after a year now stands at over £650. They are in breach of their own terms and conditions but they just don't care.

moved supplier in August 18 still waiting on a refund of approx. £400 as of 20/11/18. Previous revue here has made no difference. I asked to make a formal complaint on 25th September, still waiting on a reply and my money returned. It feels like theft to me?

I am going to contact ofgem

I am going to contact OFGEM, trading standards, TV COMPLAINTS shows and the daily mail regarding the fact that I have just been told that they have no idea when I will receive MY MONEY back from a credit balance left on my account after switching back to EON 2 MONTHS ago. Absolutely appalling customer service - advise no managers will speak to me and that they just have a massive backlog and no idea when it will be dealt with.............AN ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES.............. 21/11...lames response below makes out that they are interested but I have already raised it with them via a complaint website yesterday and if they bothered to look into that on their system they would already know the full details
