A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Most frustrating experience I have had with any company. They have been over charging me for my electric since April, and I am still unable to get them to comment on how much they owe me and when I will be refunded. Everyone person I have spoken to have been lovely friendly people who have promised to own my issues and fix it, but there has been not one single occasion of the 10+ calls I have made where the person has kept their promise (This includes there complaints department). I feel like there is nothing I can do other than keep going through the same process and hoping for a different result. I switched 2 years ago to save money but believe I have actually ended up worse off! I would certainly suggest anyone avoids using them.
Economy Energy have been awful since the day I switched. Incorrect bills, meter readings that do not register, broken website. I left EE recently and due to incorrect billing they owe me over 400 pounds. I have been chasing the refund for over a month and the staff in the call centre, whilst helpful, are clearly powerless and having to deal with similar complaints on an hourly basis. I still have not received the money owed to me and I fear that this is because they are in financial difficulties. Every time you call you get told they are looking at it “personally” and it will get sorted very soon. Every time you call again it’s like they are looking at the issue completely fresh. They then recently took further Direct Debit payments from me despite me closing my account, which fortunately my bank recovered. Avoid Economy Energy at all costs.
I am due a refund of £392 after they took the same direct debit 4 times in march and i could not stop it. At first they agreed it was their error but have recently told me they have lost my account and therefore will not be getting a refund. I only recommend to avoid this company and not trust them with a single penny of your money
I left in May 2018 with a credit of £14.50 but despite writing to them and phone calls I haven't received my money back . The last comment on here was that they would put my account in credit which is of little value if the account is closed Avoid them at all costs …..or always be in arrears
Still fighting this company to get my money they owe over the past few months. They tell bare face lies! Even using the Ombudsman over the last six weeks I have not received all that they owe me. Go with them at your own peril.
am writing to share my complaints that I have had to deal with the company in such a short period of time. I rented a flat and the previous tenants were already with your company. So presuming it may be the best supplier to go with I continued to set up my details. I am on a pay as you go smart meter. 6 phone calls I have gone through to try and sort out the gas as my account will not top up through anything other than phoning the company directly. Various people saying they would return my calls, online chats, 2 emails sent - NOTHING back. Twice I have ran out on a Sunday and late evening so have no way to top up. Having to sit in a freezing cold living room with the early winter weather is disgusting just because your customer assistants cannot deal with the problem after numerous of phone calls. At pay points in shops it says that my gas account is unrecognised. Through the app it simply just says that the transaction has failed. Then furthermore I am pending on a refund refund of £20 as money was taken out of my bank account with the transaction was unsuccessful through the app and never was put back in. I know I would be waiting up to 7-10 working days however it has nearly been 3 weeks. I am overly appalled with the service and ability to overcome issues with your company. After having 2 people say they will get back to me regarding the refund and no further contact being made. I dealt with one man who was incredibly rude and did not listen to anything I was saying. I work full time usually 12 mid day - 11pm at night. So wouldn’t know if it went off within the day so without emergency credit as that doesn’t work for me for some reason I come home and have to deal with a freezing cold house until I can finally get through to customer service.
I left this company 7 months ago and I am still waiting for my final bill, I know I am in credit and I have phoned customer service numerous times , but they are simply useless and sort out your problems, I called citizens advice today and hopefully they will force them to produce the final bill.
Please please please just save yourself the stress and upset and DO NOT use Economy Energy. I have hit an all time low trying to deal with this company and the stress and lack of willingness to help has left me in tears on several occasions. I have reached a point now where i just want to get my information so that i can go to OFGEM in the hope that they will help me resolve the issues so i can move to another company. I have raised 3 complaints and not once have i received any sort of acknowledgment for ANY of them, one of the complaints i opened over 3 months ago so they do not even adhere to their complaints procedure. How can it be that an energy company in this day and age can cause so much upset, never in my life have i ever experienced such appalling customer service. Im just devastated i chose to go with them in the first place. I will make sure that i can tell as many people as i can to avoid this company because i hate the thought of anyone else being made to feel the way they have made me feel.
