Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Conflicting information given by their representatives, very few seem to know what they're talking about, overall poor customer service, very unprofessional telephone manner. I think I may have even disturbed one of them whilst eating their lunch! Economy Energy are Not worth the hassle in my humble opinion! Here's my experience... Moved suppliers from BG to EE Sept 2017. They handled the tranfer so would've got the previous readings, usage etc and calculated the correct monthly dd amounts (so I thought). I gave them the actual readings on the transfer date and was pleased when my monthly DD was £17 for electric and £24 for gas. (Great start) 10 months later, email received, I'm £195 in debit for gas... so I'm thinking, ok I've used more than anticipated lets just adjust the DD (SIMPLE RIGHT?!).. called EE, THEY told me DD couldn't be adjusted. FULL amount was taken (June 2018) in addition to the usual DD, no adjustment was made. (RED FLAG NUMBER 1 IGNORED!) 6 months later (Dec 2018) I received a call advising I owe over £300! (Bare in mind I've received no bills or communication from them since June 2018) I called their customer service to discuss my issue as advised by their collections team. The next untrained incompetent member of the customer service team that I spoke to (for over an hour), told me I would be charged if i moved suppliers (which was incorrect), she also struggled to explain and made up how my usage had been charged from the readings given on date they took over (in sept 2017) until the date of my call. I Was informally put on hold and left for ages, numerous times. On this occasion, when I asked about adjusting the DD she said it COULD be done and gave random figures of an increased DD to around £30/40 Email subsequently received confirming monthly DD INCREASED TO £165 as of 9/1/19 Bill received with estimated figures instead of the actual readings I gave during the call It was laziness on my part why i didnt look into moving sooner and I thought i was in the middle of a contract. I SAW THE REVIEWS BEFORE I MOVED AND IGNORED THEM! I thought "there are also good reviews, so they cant be that bad?"... DONT BE LIKE ME!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Confirmed several times they would lower our direct debits as we were heavily in debit to them, never happened. Then when we left their supply, which customer service confirmed exact date over email they still took direct debits - so we cancelled them at the bank and EE sent us demanding letters as they were notified our DD was cancelled!! We are currently now 10 weeks left with over £600 due to us and they STILL haven't processed our final bill or refund. For the supposed saving we were supposed to make by changing to them its not worth the hassle.

Complaint Upheld by The Ombudsman After much tooing and froing, finally some good news... Ombudsman has upheld my complaint stating EE did not respond to my issues e.g incorrect metre readings used , not able to see my gas account online , not providing paper bills as requested when first joined , not refunding the monies on the account when asked. Also £75 compensation awarded . EE will have 28 days to respond and if funds not in the account then it will be court action . What I recommend is anyone owed money is to claim via the Direct Debit indemnity claim if you’ve paid EE by ‘direct debit ‘ log a complaint with the ombudsman or use resolver. Keep emailing them, don’t call so you have proof of emails sent and responses received. Keep pestering them and putting reviews , they will cave in . The more ppl log complaints the better in the long run. Good luck everyone .

I am also waiting for £292 refund after leaving them on 17 October 2018. Their whole system is poor. Bills based on estimated readings despite entering regular meter readings. Call centre is useless. No response from anyone. Currently waiting a reply from their complaints system - don't hold your breath! Stay clear of this company!

It's just a horrendous experience. Failing to produce my bill, random estimates, awful customer service. List goes on and on and there's no end. I last month I received a sneaky estimate for 296 pounds, I've contacted them to ask them to amend my bill and was told someone needs to come take a photo of my meter. And that was the last time I heard from them. Until, of course, the threatening debt collection email. And a threatening text. And several phone calls.Currently following their customer complaint procedure before I contact the ombudsman. This is how my meter reads look like 20 Dec 2018 Customer Read 19340 18 Dec 2018 Unknown 20727 19 Nov 2018 Customer Read 19125

Awful company. They actually make up meter readings. Just impossible to deal with. Do not even contemplate using them.

As you know, by check meter reading history list you could see easily how much you used on gas or elec. Today, I want to show you how Economy Energy try to cheat my bill. 1. EconomyEnergy created a bill with a huge estimated number for my gas like below for last 2 month: Start Reading 22145 Estimated Read (17/10/2018) End Reading 23686 Estimated Read (20/12/2018) Total charges for this period £454.65 !!!! BUT, My actual meter End Reading is 224xx, far more less than 23686 2. This is not end, when I check "Meter readings history" list, the wrong estimated number is not in the list!!! It has been hidden!! So, I could not see anything wrong by only check meter reading history list. Read you bill carefully !!

Wow if I had seen these reviews before using this company I wouldn't have used them at all. I too like the many other reviews am waiting for a refund of £100s. I was told today they don't have a phone number at the refund department and that noone at the call center knows how long I should expect to wait for a refund. I requested my refund last August and have received no contact since. This company like many others expect you to pay your bills on time but when you request a refund they are allowed to take as long as they like with no notifications to their customers.
