A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

same as others here, I am owed Β£100's since closing my account. This has been going on for 3 months now despite many phone calls and emails, and apparently this is "in process". As suggested by others I will attempt to contact bank to see if they can refund the Direct Debits

never use economy energy, after leaving them in September 2018 in credit, I've been waiting still to date for my refund. despite contacting customer services and the social media team and a promise of a 'fast track' refund, still nothing back. after reporting to moneysavingexpert and them advising they have many cases and will now be reporting to financial ombudsmen, economy energy seem in no rush to refund customers any outstanding credits. May be easy to set up and cheap to use, but overcharging and then not refunding is not worth using them for.

Total shambles. Moved my gas and electric to them in October 2017 and submitted online monthly meter readings but after six months they still hadn`t managed to produce a gas bill and only sorted it when I wrote threatening to involve OFGEM. In October 2018 I changed gas supplier away from them but despite numerous phone calls and invoking their formal complaint procedure they have failed to produce a final bill and refund me around Β£50 they owe me. I still have my electric from them and they have recently generated an estimated bill that is over 1000 units more than the readings I have submitted on line. Perhaps my best course of action is to cancel my direct debit for the electric run up a bill, move to another supplier and then offset what they owe me for gas against what I will owe them for electric. Alternatively I may pay them a visit at their nearby Coventry headquarters and make a fuss there.

Well, after months of trying to get my money back, 17/12/18 i went through money claims online. Tomorrow is the deadline for them to respond/refund the money before action os taken. Had an email today saying my refund plus the Β£25.00 court cost will be refunded back into my bank tomorrow. I advise everybody to do this otherwise youll never see your money.

Still have not received my credit refund 3 months after leaving the company. Awful response time, online chat takes far too long and is unhelpful.

I left this company because even though I was paying every month by DD they took nearly Β£900 as an extra payment out of my account for no reason. I was in credit according to my readings. I telephoned them and asked for it back. It could have been my mortgage money. They refused and said I would have to wait despite being well in credit!!!. I changed companies that day! I also stopped the DD's going out of my account. They still owe me Β£565.52. I have telephoned numerous times and emailed customer complaints. I get no joy other than yet again today being told that they have a backlog of reimbursements to get process and I will get it eventually. I did DD and they basically robbed my account. They also owe me compensation I think.

DO NOT USE. Left on 5th October, they took another DD on 1st November which I was able to get back from the bank. I am owed over Β£230 and still waiting, as seems to be the case with lots of people. Another week and I can go to the Ombudsman, but I am also looking to go to the Small Claims Court. Whenever you speak to them they can never tell you anything and don't do what they say they will.

This company continued to debit my account 3 months after I had switched to another provider. I have just spoken to my banks DDebit dept and they have refunded me the money. I am still owed credit back from economy energy but it is a small sum.

This is by far the worst utility company that I have every dealt with. I left them nearly two years ago and had to chase them for a final bill that took a year to get. Then I paid them and got them to confirm that I paid everything I owed. They confirmed I did. Then they send another chaser months later and threatened legal action saying I owe Β£44.00. I call them, write to them and have spent some 20 hours trying to resolve and 6 months ago they confirmed all resolved. Now I get more chasers and threatened legal action for Β£44 again. They cannot resolve a small issue and cause me a lot of stress. I have reported them to OFGEM the official energy regulatory and recommend if you have similar issues you do to as I am hoping this last avenue will resolve. Otherwise I will see them in court!
