Very rude operator who asked me to…

Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me

A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Refund success!!

Like many others I have waited for a refund of over £400! And today finally I got a call from customer service to say I will receive my refund by 5pm today BUT it is not as much as I said it was...Apparently the final bill they sent me wasn't my 'actual' final bill so I was told I'll going get £289... As I was put on a wrong tarriff! I explained this was their mistake not mine so want the full amount... Speaks to manager - Oh ok they will give me x amount as a good will gesture, plus the £35 I paid for the online money claim service, plus interest rounded up to £5 so all together £374.75, she said "it's only £89 less than what you thought it was"! Righto luv, you keep it I can't be asked anymore! Money to be in my account by 5pm today and no other dealings with this horrendous company ever again! So anyone who is 'waiting' for a refund - DON'T WAIT! Open a online money claim service - just google it - you have to sign up - fill out the forms, pay a fee either £25-£35 depending on amount claiming, Economy Energy have 14 days to reply - They have ignored my calls and emails since October - I issued this in 18th Dec and have (I hope!) a resolution today - 3rd Jan.

Do not even consider using this company…

Do not even consider using this company to supply your gas or electricity. Like many other customers I have been waiting weeks for a refund of £550 which has not materialised despite numerous phone calls. I left EE on 17th October but they still continued to take Direct Debits during November and December. They tried again on January 2nd but I had cancelled the DD !!! Today I have instructed my bank to recall Direct Debits totalling around £520 which will be in my bank account tomorrow. Monday I will go to the small claims court for the balance plus interest.

EE Business model revealed

Reviewing my own experience and those published on Trustpilot, I think it is clear how they have been operating their credit meter business: 1. Have low initial tariffs to win new business from price comparison sites 2. After a few months create an artificially high meter read estimate 3. Increase direct debit accordingly 4. Ignore subsequent accurate customer readings 5. When customer realises what has been going on, put the customer through an endless cycle of non-delivered promises. If they can get more new customers in, and readings tampered quicker than the eventual refunds of overpayments, they stay in business. But with OFGEM banning new customer acquisition and changes to DD, they are out of business in a few months. Before they go bankrupt you must make a direct debit indemnity for your estimate of your overpayments.

Left this shambles of a company

1.00pm -Left this shambles of a company on the 10th of Oct 2018 and we are still waiting for our refund despite numerous calls, although I gave up after being on hold for 25 minutes on last call. Starting to wonder if the latest 5* reviews are genuine, some of them seem just a bit sickly sweet to be true. ****UPDATE**** 14.11pm- I have managed to talk to a human, guess what!! She could give me no information about when I would get my refund but she would email another department which would "push" for the payment to be paid.-- Question, why are the directors of this company not being questioned regarding the illegal withholding of peoples money and fraud for taking DD after the customer has left.

Should be banned from running a company again

Changed supplier (as they put price up) in September, account in credit by about £500 yet cannot get a refund, told it takes eight weeks, despite promises, after promise, last one being the 29th Dec another trip to the bank to find no refund again. Statements a joke, dont even show credits to the account The bosses of Economy Energy have now complained twice about my review, so changed twice, yet they treat customers they owe money to so badly. Government in the Uk needs to sort these companies out.

Economy Energy - NO Customer Service

Economy Energy continued to take direct debit payments from me after I had left them. I have been waiting over a month now for a £621.24 refund. I would not recommend them 🙁

Very poor, unlawful and dishonest...

Joined in May 18, smooth cutover process. As a result of the 2month pre pay was running a high credit balance by August, tried calling to refund however was refused on the ground that they will only return money if your credit balance was 4x direct debit amount. Mine was about 3.8x. Received email 40minutes after midnight on the day direct debit for September was taken increasing unit rates by 43%. Called to question and also raised credit balance, was advised my only route to return credit balance was to switch suppliers. Did this days later and cancelled direct debit with bank. This left me with large credit balance to be refunded. They called me a few days before cutover asking for a meter reading stating this would make final bill easier, I duly provided. I later discovered this had the opposite effect, this resets the billing cycle clock and the result was six weeks delay to provide final bill during which period the account is frozen (no refund). On completion of final bill (6weeks after leaving) I called to request refund, was told this takes 28 days, no reason for this was provided. 28 days passed and despite tens of calls before and after no refund was received. Wrote letters, sent emails, threatened court action. Eventually frequent email complaints to social at economyenergy.co.uk resulted in refund being paid 3months after service end date. I conclude economy energy are on the verge of collapse, their unlawful practices couldn't surely be the basis of a functioning business model in a supposed regulated industry. I note today's news that they are now prevented from taking on new customers or raising addtional cash through dd increases. Unfortunately although good news for unsuspecting potential customers I think this is bad news for those awaiting refunds, without the ability to raise income and a well known cash flow shortage I don't think EE will last much longer.

Success - got my refund

Success! Extracted my credit refund from them at last having left at the end of August. Online small claims court action did the trick, with response the next day after the claim and payment a week later. Payment included the £25 court fee and interest at 8%. Do not let economy energy win, follow the citizens advice on how to do an online claim after doing a formal letter giving them 2 weeks notice of a claim. It’s the only language economy energy understand. And you don’t have to wait 8 weeks from first formal complaint to get ombudsman involved. Don’t let them get you down, take action. In particular don’t bother calling, send everything by email and scanned letter so that it is can be used in evidence.

Appalling company

Appalling. They have added 1400 units to my recent bill despite getting readings which conveniently wipes out my credit balance of over £500. I've just been on the phone trying to sort it out, was on hold for almost one hour then got cut off. Awful awful company.

I have now been 3 weeks with no gas

I have now been 3 weeks with no gas. Spent Christmas living in a freezing cold house with 2 small children. Had nothing but trouble with economy during this time. At first refusing to fix the smart meter which was broke but they wouldn't except responsibility and simply said it was the boiler without even sending an engineer out to check . Eventually an emergency engineer was called out and the meter was condemed. Finally economy sent someone out to replace the meter but 2 weeks on we still don't have a card to credit the meter ! Economy energy employees do not have a clue what they are doing and they don't care either. Iv spoke to well over 20 different staff members and not one was of any help and not one has the intelligence of actually sending the bloody card out !! We are now in the process of changing companies as there is nothing more we can do.
