Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Despite being in credit they took 3 more direct debits *after* I left them and they still haven't produced a final bill. Now it's virtually impossible to contact them. Amazingly they did just call back but I doubt the words will turn into actions. I think everyone knows the EE ship is sinking now.

STAY AWAY !!! Ee installed a new electricity meter because the old one was apparently faulty, we already had credit on the faulty meter and we havnt got that back and they all said they would send us a new key for the meter in the post but we still have no key and now we have no electricity as we cannot top it up. Also getting through to customer service is like finding a needle in a haystack as they never get back to you or answer the phone!

After many letters to Ofgem and the ombudsman service for energy regarding Economy Energy I was so happy to see that Ofgem has finally stepped in and stopped them from taking on any more customers, stopped them from increasing remaining customers Direct debits.i have been waiting for a refund of £130.34pence since September last year and despite the amount of phone calls and emails requesting my refund it was always the same response. Your refund has been submitted to our refunds department but I can’t tell you when it will be paid due to a “backlog”. If you are an existing Economy Energy customer then switch straight away as I believe this company is in serious financial difficulty. If you are like me waiting on a refund after 8 weeks of leaving them then it’s worth the cost of a stamp and take your complaint to the Ombudsman service for energy.

Terrible to deal with but I found a method to get some of my money back. I decided to leave Economy Energy after getting calls from their collection departments on two occasions telling me I needed to make immediate payments as my account had a shortfall due to direct debits being too low. I have two accounts and decided to close them. It turned out that I was owed £600 for the two overpaid dual fuel accounts. After months of trying to get my money back. I contacted my bank and got around £450 back from them through the direct debit guarantee as this was the amount overpaid after advising EE I was closing the account. My bank took about ten minutes taking all the details and money was returned to me next day. I did get a notice after this from my bank advising that the company can dispute this and I may have to make payments to them. A reasonable protection letter from the bank, however this company are not going to get a further dime from me and I will continue to pursue them for the remaining balance.

Just keep holding onto my money, 5 months and counting. Many fruitless calls, emails and contact forms 😡

Well done to all reviewers. The regulator does appear to review the Trustpilot pages and take account of the complaints resulting in action. Although OFGEM is not a consumer-facing organisation, it did provide me with immediate support as did the Citizens' Advice Bureau Extra Help Unit. Which? and MSE have also been helpful. The Ombudsman timescales are too long when a company is behaving badly. No credit either to my MP who ignored my email. It remains unclear whether OFGEM is insisting that Economy Energy provides in its accounts for its missed Green Energy Tariff or whether that money is available for paying consumer creditors. Somehow it is difficult to see how a totally irresponsible company can become responsible within days.

This is a dreadful company due to go bump within the next month or two. They increased my standing order by 10% within the first 3 months even though I was over £200 pounds in credit. Now I'm approaching £350 credit yet they will neither reduce my direct debit or refund some of my credit. On 20th Dec they put a false meter reading in (approx 4000 units above the true reading, with an annotation of 'unknown' Which would wipe out any of my credit, were it true.I advise you all to get out quick!!!!

A totally unreliable and untrustworthy company to deal with. Started in June 18 when I noticed an error on my account. Turned out I was owed over £400 but couldn’t however I tried, to either get a refund or correct bill. In fact I still haven’t got one but did eventually get a refund after going to both the Ombudsman and Ofgem. In fact my refund was only forthcoming after involving them. But still waiting for an accurate bill and the £40 compensation agreed by the Ombudsman, ridiculously low amount considering the time and effort spent on trying to recover my money. So it was no surprise to see Ofgem banning Economy Energy from taking on new business. In my view they are unfit to run a public service and their license should be revoked. Payback for this company by its long suffering customers should be a withholding of payment until refunds are received or correct bills are supplied, but don’t hold your breath. Shun them. No platitudes please Economy Energy.

At long last the Energy Regulator has banned these cowboys from taking on new customers for at least the next 3 months. They must also address billing and payment failures, and issue customer refunds in a timely manner. I took me over 6 months to get a refund, huge stress and I had to instigate a formal complaint via the Ombudsman.

Do not change to this supplier. I switched from them and they confirmed a credit balance on switch over. It took weeks of letters emails abd eventually a ccj being issued to ger paud. DO NOT DEAL cheap for a reason. If a supplier already carefully watch payments against usage
