Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

A month ago an entry on my electricity meter readings was titled 'Unknown' and was 3000 (thousand) units more than it should have been. EE then used this to amend my DD payments by over £60 pounds per month. The timing of this cannot be ignored.

Left this appalling company in July with a credit of £112 still owing to us on the gas account. Less then 14 days later we get a call from the credit control team asking how we were going to pay back the £50 owing on the electricity bill before they send in collection agency! Despite multiple calls, totalling over 10 hours, to their customer services and being lied to every time we still don't have the £60 balance back in the following January. Complaints department have ignored us and customer services just pretend to pass your call over to get rid of you. We've now reported them to the Energy Ombudsman as they are deliberately withholding the money now. Do not go near this company.

Finally, Ofgem took action against the company as per email I just received. In my view, the action is too long in coming as management of EE have made a mockery of the rules and regulations to shaft their customers. To tell consumers you have to wait 3 months before the ombudsman becomes involved is a disgrace when EE where acting the way they were. The directors of the company need to be held to account as given that they were not paying customers as per agreed terms of 14 days one has to ask the question whether the company was trading while insolvent. This needs to be looked at by the regulators and appropriate action taken against the directors and owners should this be warranted by the results of the investigation. "Economy Energy has ceased to trade. Under Ofgem’s safety net, the energy supply and credit balances of customers are protected. Ofgem will choose a new supplier to take on Economy Energy customers as quickly as possible. This supplier will contact these customers shortly after being appointed."

I left Economy Energy in July 2018, it took me until August and November to receive my final bills and they owe me ~£575. After hours on the phone and constantly being told 'it is being progressed' I have still not received a penny of my money back and now I read they could be in financial difficulties and if they ultimately fold I will be entitled to nothing. The customer service is atrocious as I was the one who had to ring and chase for the final bills to be generated and when I tried to chase my refund I was constantly told I had to wait as there was no way they could contact the department that dealt with the refunds as they had no phone number to ring, simply an email. I would highly recommend avoiding this company, as any cost saving you could make in your energy prices is simply not worth the hassle you could receive in my opinion.

The end is nigh for this terrible company, I got my cash back via direct debit guarantee, but I feel for the people who are owed hundred , and I bet Ee are not the only company using customers as cash machines. This has to stop, the government need to step in . It's obvious what was happening here luckily I monitor my account and stopped the massive DD increase this company tried to impose on me. They come in at the bottom end of the market which is s why i moved to them, but having control over how much they can take is a scandal ..good riddance to them .

I left them in August and despite numerous false promises I got the regulator involved. Yesterday I had a letter from Economy saying the credit balance will be refunded today. I’m waiting to see if it arrives My advice would be to involve the regulator at the earliest opportunity as without their help youbhave no chance of getting your money back. They have now been stopped from taking on new customers

It looks like Economy Energy's minions are out on here to discredit the work Ken Butterworth has done to highlight the shambles of this company. These minions should be ashamed to blame Ken for simply highlighting major failings in the business. This is a competitive marketplace, if Economy Energy had to use unscrupulous ways to make money than maybe it shouldn't have deserved to exist as long as it has.

Found this snippet of news from the Telegraph, now EE appears not have any funds to pay for energy. Company is sinking.. Economy Energy has reignited concern that it may go bust after plunging into credit default just days after the supplier was slapped with a ban on signing up new customers. An official notice from the market operator warned that the troubled gas and power provider does not have enough credit in place to cover the cost of trading energy for its 244,000 customers

We left EE in October. Took them until Start of December to give us a final bill (after initially taking out payments by dd still in November) We're due back over £550. Same excuses as everyone else has had. Avoid this con of a company at all costs.

I left in September and still have not had a refund! After numerous calls and messaging, I am still no further. Apparently I am on list, but they don’t know where about on the list, they have a small team dealing with the list but I can’t speak to them and neither can the customer service team. I have been told I can’t complain because it take 56 working days for a response and that team are also behind - so was advised not to bother. I did complain and about 90 days ago and I still haven’t had an acknowledgement and certainly no response. It is infuriating that they can get away with such appalling customer service and withholding money.
