A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

I have been chasing a refund for my father who switched suppliers back in Oct and left EE. I've tried to ring and get through several times but gave up, it's not worth the effort, time or energy. Here is my recommendation to get back money owed. 1. Firstly avoid joining this awful company in the first place. 2. Email EE customer complaints outlining the problem and provide timescales and the action you are proposing to take. 3. Use the DD refund scheme to claim back any unauthorised payments made after switching suppliers. Its quick and easy to do. Just contact your bank. 4. Then use the Government online claims scheme to claim back what you are owed. There is a cost but you can add this to the claim along with interest. I have managed to get back the unauthorized DD's back and although I don't yet have the balance of money owed I do now have final statements, (coincidentally on the day which is the deadline the court have given them to respond to the claim!). Don't panic, use the tools and options that are available. Good luck.

Heads up everyone on another snide way they are getting your money. Over the weekend I checked back over my bills and found that one of my bills had been over charged by almost 25%. Even though the bill stated the correct fixed tariff the standing charge and kWh rates were wrong and much higher. I have tried contacting them today by phone and email with no success. My advice to everyone is check the rates on each of your bills even if your bill carries the correct tariff name. I contacted WM police and they told me to speak to trading standards who are calling me back tomorrow. I am sure this isn't a one off and they have done this to more people.

I left this company back in October with a £250 credit on the account. It is now the start of January and I’m still waiting for the refund. I have rang several times and been told it’s being processed and it will be dealt with shortly. This is wearing a bit thin now after the 10th call and same response. I am not alone as there are a host of other horror stories on the Internet relating to this company paying back credit on customers accounts. From my experience I wouldn’t recommend them.

update, EE have finally restored online gas reading history which should go some way to alleviate the problem of grossly over estimated readings. A small step in the right direction well done EE update(2) my optimism was misplaced, despite sending readings on a **daily basis**, they have just sent an electricity statement using an estimated reading, saying I have used 809 KWH of electricity in 24 hours even though the readings for the actual and days either side were entered online, with an automated reply acknowledging receipt. To achieve that rate of consumption equals 33.7 Kw/hour and at 240 volts needs a current of 140.51 amps. As the main inline fuse is rated at 100 amps I think would have noticed something amiss. why don't ofgem do the decent thing and just close them down, take the passports off the directors and freeze all their and their families assets..

I have been waiting for a £214 refund since October 2018. I contacted OFGEM who stated the following, I am sorry to hear about your issues with E.E. However, we cannot get involved in resolving your individual dispute. OFGEM has now banned E.E. from taking on new customers until it resolves its customer service issues. The provisional order against the supplier also bans it from requesting one off payments and increasing direct debits. The ban will initially remain in place for up to three months in order for E.E. to take steps, - improve and expand its customer contact procedures via email and webchat. - address its billing and payment failures - issue customer refunds in a timely manner. How is the company getting away with this? They don't reply to emails they don't call you back. When you get an answer its always the same line, there's a backlog, can not give a time scale for refunds. They are not worthy of a 1 star.

Looking at all the other reviews has only reinforced my opinion that this company appears to be committing some kind of con on a massive scale. We are owed £350 and cannot contact them at all. We are left ‘on hold’ for 30 minutes and then they say press 5 and hang up - we’ll ring you when you get to the front of the queue! Never happens! STAY WELL AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!

The worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I had no choice but to switch whilst anticipating problems with a refund which has proven true. The switch was a little stressful due to their poor handling and giving me a diffent story to that of my new supplier. I have been told on numerous occasions by EE that the refund had been requested but no substance following each call. With a dwindling customer base and unable to take on more it does not look good. I feel for those owed large amounts.
