Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Had a debt on my meter. They took 9 months to come and change meter. They owe me over Β£400 now then gone bust. How do these regulators, regulate. Government are incompetent. They don't do nothing about is as they pocket the fines imposed on these companies. Whilst the poor are ripped of by all of them.

If anyone joins this company they are mugs. Be warned - read these reviews. They have the worst customer service I have experienced - took 6 months to be refunded my credit, only after I went to the ombudsman and chasing again as I've not got the compensation. I expect the response will be "Sorry to hear this" please email us at social@ etc etc - load of rubbish - this is just to show they do care - fraud through and through. Completely inept.

Sorry for the staff but the worst company I've ever come across but I just wanted to pass on the advice I was given and which worked for me basically being owed around Β£300 since October and after sending/receiving numerous txts I noticed among these reviews a comment about contacting your bank and claiming back the direct debits you paid, so I did exactly that contacted bank explained I was owed this money and the bank refunded me Β£240 in 48hrs no messing just ask to have your direct debits repaid it worked for me hope this helps the numerous others in the same situation

I have been harrassed into paying bills which had already been paid. I Had large sums of money taken from my bank account unauthorised, which has lead to multiple bank charges. I was overcharged and slapped with an almost 600 pound bill last year, after I paid my bills monthly via DD and continued to give meter readings every month. We were never contacted about this bill until it had wracked up to almost 600 pounds. I called and paid the bill full after an employee told me, that if I did I would be able to switch suppliers with no problems. They informed me if I paid it in one go I wouldn't have any debt collectors on my door step. So I paid the bloody bill, lived from food banks for a month. Only then to be called/texted continuously and threatened by employees to pay even more outstanding bills!! Bills which when asked directly to investigate "never existed". Everytime our switch for electricity was stopped we questioned the employee if we had any outstanding credit and were told over and over again that we did not. We were also informed that we should be able to switch without any issues. 8 attempts later and still no joy with changing our supplier. we were told numerous times over the phone that we didn't have any outstanding credit on the account. This company owes us money, won't let us switch to a new supplier we have tried 8 times to do so and every single time they have put an obstruction on our account. I received and email last week threatening me into paying another hefty bill after being informed we owed nothing just before Christmas.

Been chasing a Β£500 pound refund since August last year luckily I cancelled my direct debit so the credit balance didn't increase. Then on Dec 21st I was given a bill for Β£1800 that was over estimated by 3000 units lol. What a scam.

So Economy Energy has finished. This is the best result for its customers. I hope you all get your money back. I have never experienced such "sharp", suspect practices. I wonder where all of the money went..so many people owed refunds ....There needs to be a full investigation into the running of this company and the directors held accountable. As for the staff, you repeatedly lied to me and others in an attempt to take our money. We are encouraged to switch companies to get the best deal, but these smaller companies seem to be able to operate without the regulations imposed on the "Big 6" companies. Maybe we should switch to smaller companies with caution, at least until they are made to comply and follow the same rules as the large companies. I for one will never switch to any company owned by the director of economy energy.
