I have had an outstanding complaint since November 2024. In the 1 year 1 was issued with two very large bills over 1k each time (I live in a 1 bed apartment and work in the office for reference) so this just did not make sense to me. The issue is still on going, that bill was suppose to be frozen until the issue was resolved but as of last week I am now down 1k as the amount was taken from my bank. I have found it very difficult or at all possible to get updates on this situation from the complaint team. the Customer service operators have tired their best to help but as there is no direct contact to the complaint team this issue is just causing unnecessary stress and anxiety.
I will be leaving theses an absolute nightmare I've had last few day one person telling me one thing the other telling me something totally different ffs I've never seen anything like it there a joke and there senior rep worst than a car salesman joke of a company
Got a call from them a week ago offering me the same terms as i’d had for the past year. The caller told me that it was a great offer and that if would give the same discount and it wouldn’t be a year long contract - a rolling monthly contract.
A week later I receive a letter congratulating me on signing up for another year.
So I emailed them as follows
“Hi. I received a phone call a few days ago offering me a discount if I continued on a month rolling basis. I asked the caller to send me the details of what was being offered, by email, and she said that she didn’t have a document or information available to email. I then asked her to post it to me, which she said she would do.
Today I received a letter thanking me for renewing (which I’d told her on the phone I’d ‘consider’)- obviously taking it for granted and no mention of the monthly rolling contract she referred to.
Can you send me on the details she referred to please (rolling monthly contract)”
Two days later they emailed asking me to confirm my address. I gave it to them
A day later I got the following reply:
“Thanks for your recent email to Bord Gáis Energy. I'm sorry for the delay in replying.
When our Telesales Team called you on 7 November 2019, they signed you up to a 15% discount off our electricity unit rate for 12 months. This discount will be effective from 1 December 2019, when your current discounted offer ends. There is a 14-day cooling off period for this offer if you wish to cancel it.

So basically they’ve just admitted they signed me up without my permission.
I’ve replied to them:
“Hi. Please read my email again. You've answered question I didnt ask.
Please listen back to the recording of the phone call with your representative. “
Failing a satisfactory explanation, the next stop will be the Energy Regulator etc.
I genuinely can’t believe how bad their support is.

Hi there I'm just wondering if anyone elce has been treated as badly as I have been by bord gais. I had a representative of bord gais call to my door 10 months ago and talk me in to signing over my gas and electricity accounts to them. I did so as I was offered a 21% discount on my electricity and 14 % discount on my gas I signed a 12 month contract with them. The representative wrote on the top of my contract to ring him in ten months to receive a further discount and a free hive worth 299 euro. I rang both numbers the man wrote on my contract to be told they aren't reachable so I rang bord gais and explained the situation. I was then told I have to sign a 24 month contract to receive the hive and I would no longer be receiving the discounts I have it would be reduced to 7%. I explained to the man I was talking to I have it in writing I was to receive a further discount and a free hive and it said nothing about me loosing the discounts I already had as the representative told me I would receive a further reduction for staying with bord gais as he had already give extra discounts to all his customers when they were ten months with the company. So from what I am understanding they are refusing to honor there contract this is no way to do business or keep customers I am sorry I changed my provider in the first place. Has anyone elce had this problem with Ord gais I would be interested to know as I'm not going to let this go they are breaking there Contract.
A utter night mare to deal with. Joined April 2018 and received no bills (through post nor e-mail ) for nearly a year. Even though I contacted them 3 times and requested them. Sent in a complaint and I contacted CRU. I received my first bill in March 2019 for a lovely amount of over €3000. I did a deal with them 2 pay A amount in full and go forward from there and they agreed. All was good I taught until I received my next bill (in June 2019) for 2 months usage for €1500 approx. When I studied t bill I noticed the units were all wrong I rang them not just once and sent in a complaint. Guess what I am still here waiting for them to sort it out and this is Sept 2019. I have done my own figures while waiting for them to get back to me and I reckon they are over charging me by €500 cos they keep on changing my units even though I have given them meter reading. !!! Can't change to another company cos this matter is still on going.
O the girl that rang me about t complaint cant give me a direct telephone no. if I want to contact her NO I have to ring bord gais Dublin no. go through t whole systems to b either told they don't know her or she is out of t office today......... and they will forward on a email to her to say I have called. Bord Gais are a TERRIBLE company to deal with!!! Dont even consider them cos you will get terrible HEADACHES and b ripped off.

Awful company. Trying to change Bord Gais account into my mother's name as my dad passed away suddenly. Absolutely horrendous experience. Numerous calls, emails and chat conversations just to go around in continuous circles and get told something completely different everytime. Still no further forward weeks later

Worst company ever to deal with. Was a loyal customer for over two years, overnight they put my bill by 40% no reason why, spent over a half hour on the phone to one of their reps where I was put on hold and my call was cancelled. Sent several emails and all ignored, I went on a comparison site and chose another electricity provider. I would never deal with these cowboys again. Please steer clear of them
Terrible customer service! And beware, especially when moving home and closing your account; they invariably add on a few thousand units to your final bill and will then have you jumping through hoops to prove the actual meter read. Make sure you take photographic evidence and better still have a witness. Will never use them again! Chancers!
This is a real scammer. I lived in a small flat one bed room, made a deposit and been monthly credited my account, never missed paying €60 - €80 as discussed by an agent and based on meter readings.
Now upon closing the account midway on second contract, they charge me €440+ amount and immediately debited my account. They explained its the excess amount from previous months never been paid from winter. So basically they were saying I’m charged €100+ monthly even though I’m not using gas every day. And the €60-€80 quote is just a front. And the deposit money is never been talked about either. Like what others have said, agents would say “they can’t do anything about it.” At least a computation of previous month charges to be given, but none.
To anyone who wants a gas, never Bord gais for personal or business use.
Doubled billed a family member one month €198x2 and cleared there account. When the family member contacted board gais and needed the money put back into the account they said they could not credit the account and could they get a lend of money from somebody to cover their mistake. I myself was paying a bill from a closed account and was having difficulty paying using their quick pay online system. I missed one payment and my case was handed to a debt collection agency without warning. The account was €80.20, would never recommend using board gais for personal or business accounts.
