My first dna sample was bad so my 3 month trial expired before I got my results not good experience
Knowing roughly what ethnicity I am was really neat to discover and my ancestors and I’m thinking of getting my mom a kit of her own now too! This was fun!
I signed up for a 4 month trial of Ancestry.com. Immediately I began looking for any relatives in UK with my surname. I did not expect to have to give the county in England where they lived. That was what I was trying to find out. No matter how I tried, unless I entered a County, I could not go any further. I entered.my mother’s surname and found her listed, as well as her mother, my maternal grandmother. But as Ancestry.com were blocking my search, I ost all interest, and sent an email, letting them know that I would not be continuing my membership beyond the 4 month trial. Here is a copy of a 2nd email, reminding them that I wished to cancel my membership, sent 15-4-2025. Below that is the confirmation of payment, from Ancestry “This is to say that I wish to cancel my membership as soon as the 4 month introductory period is over. I have been bitterly disappointed. I expected more than I thought I could do. I was under the impression that I could just enter a surname, and all results would show for it, no matter which country it came from. I did not expect that I had to enter not just the country for my search, e.g. England - but also which county in England. How on earth would I be expected to know that? That’s ridiculous! For what I had paid I was expecting any ancestor of my family surname (which is unique), to show - wherever they might have come from, or presently living in the world. Please just cancel my membership and I will not give a one star rating review on TrustPilot.” On 9 Feb 2025, at 16:31, Ancestry wrote: Here are the details of your recent purchase. Well, here we are, 20-5-2025, and I received this email from them today. “On 20 May 2025, at 11:17, Ancestry wrote: Ancestry Thank you for being an Ancestry® member! this is a reminder that your monthly Worldwide Membership subscription will automatically renew on 09 June 2025 for GBP19.99. But as I had already informed them twice previously that it was my intention of not continuing past the 4 month trial period, I cannot trust them NOT to take the £19.99 from my bank account. I cannot give my opinion of Ancestry, because it is unprintable. But it is a lot less than a one star rating. I have since had a reply from Ancestry.com. But even after telling them THREE TIMES that I did not wish to continue my membership after the 4 month trial period is over, they are still not accepting it. I have been informed that if I wish to cancel my membership, then I have to phone them to do it. How absolutely preposterous! I am certainly not going to do that. This company is run by staff which are so rude. If three times is not enough notice that I wish to stop my membership after the trial period has ended is not enough times, then that is too bad. I have had to warn them not to take money from my bank account, as I will consider it theft, and will inform the police.
Subscribed for the DNA test kit.. Arrived in a couple of days.. Posted and silence for 5 weeks.. Received an acknowledgement then weeks and weeks of nothing... Meanwhile, renewal requests for more money...... Am i the only one feeling ripped off?? The longer it takes the more they can pull from you.. Very unhappy with Ancestry.. Money Money Money..
Received a DNA test as a present. The process was quite slow and I kept receiving marketing from Ancestry during my wait. I now find the info I received is extremely limited unless I fork out for a full membership. Seems a bit of a rip off to me.
I just want to know what countries am I made up from, I already made a family tree going back to 1640. I really DONT Appreciate being bombarded with emails.my DNA sample was paid for by my sister becauße I couldn't afford it. I don't want accidently charging her.too many emails
I had a very concerning experience with them today. Out of nowhere an email popped up saying that my PayPal account had just paid an specific amount of money to Ancestry.com Operations LP. The same day. I knew for sure that I had not authorized that transaction. I contacted them and they agreed to cancel the transaction but were very evasive about how it had happened. At this point I went back to PayPal and filed a unauthorized transaction report and later that afternoon after having to change my password to unlock my account I received a message saying that they had investigated and there was no unauthorized access. The bottom line is this. Somehow Ancestry managed not only to access my PayPal account but to authorize recurring payments without my permission. That's bad enough but both Ancestry and Paypal have offered no explanation. I think I had a Ancestry account years ago so they probably still have my email address but that does not explain how they managed to access my Paypal account with no authorization. I would suggest only that you be very, very careful before deciding to do business with this company.
I’m not really satisfied with all that you found there is native American in our family. I know that for a fact, so I’m not pleased with not showing up my grandmother she was Native American .
I took my DNA test because I don’t know my ethnicity. I come from the country of Georgia and I know people who took thei test and got very specific answers like: you are 10% Armenian or you are 20% Croatian. My test results came saying genes I have are found in the area from Anatolia to Caucasus. There are tens of nations and hundreds of ethnicities who like inside that broad part of the world. It was like - your ancestors have lived somewhere on the earth.
My 3 month trial started and will end LESS THAN 3 WEEKS after getting my results!!! I would/will NEVER recommend them to anyone!!
Yes I received the email concerning my ancestry. Not much helpful info unless I spend additional money to become a member. Overall, dissatisfied. Will not recommend this avenue.
Very very confusing to understand results. Web site navigation not user friendly.
results is not detailed very disappointing experience
Total scam. Refused to refund me after an accidental charge.
I have had questions about my family's history. In 1980, while stationed in W. Germany, I learned the first recorded ancestor on my mother's side of the family. It occurred in 1122AD. I am now trying to fill the gaps in our history. It is believed our branch stems from the 17th Earl of Wolcott.
I did 23 & me and I got more results and a wider breakdown. I was hoping that this would answer the questions I had on my dad side that 23& me didn't answer
It took too long to receive the results. I also am having trouble navagating the information. It would have been nice to have it all printed out and not have to find info. I would not suggest this service to anyone.
Disappointed, for sure. Frustrated, you bet. Poor experience, poor results with little info and... most importantly, wrong origins. According to them, my ancestors come from Scotland, but I have proof that they come from Ireland and yet, Ireland does not even appear in the results at all...
