Little information provided

Very hard to understand what all is part of ancestry.com. Seems like you don’t get much of anything without required. Additional money spent to join.

Ancestry.com gave me start

Ancestry.com gave me a start in researching my family history, I feel a sense of pride knowing where my ancestors originally came from. After showing my husband what Ancestry.com discovered in my DNA kit, now him and my son want to order their kit. This was truly a great experience and I encourage anyone interested in researching their family history in America, or abroad to definitely start by having their DNA tested, Thanks so much, Ancestry.com!

They are slow for sure

They are slow for sure. After 7 days of the order, they finally shipped the kit :) I can't even imagine how long it will take to get results. I will update my review after the process.

The company does not work, but just imitates activity

Rarely do you come across a company with such poorly organized processes. Bought their test, registered, send it via mail. Complete silence, no confirmation of receipt of parcel for three weeks. At the same time the mail on the EU goes 1 week at most. After three weeks they say they received the test, started work. Another two months pass, no news. I write to support, they say wait another month. I wait another month and get a message that my test is lost, but they can send a new one. I get a new test, register it, send it. Again three weeks no confirmation that the test is received by the company. I suspect that in a couple more months they will inform me that they have lost another test. The company does not work, but just imitates activity. I recommend to avoid it. You'll just spend money, wait 3-6 months and get no results

Learning about you and your family's…

Learning about you and your family's otigins. The only tricky part I am currently facing is which is the accurate name for the ones that multiple names that share the birthand/or death dates and where exactly was this person at the time of death and/or at birth.

Overwhelmed and underwhelmed

I find the amount of information that was provided by my DNA results overwhelming with what, so far, feels like little guidance about how to decipher the DNA information, what's important and what can probably be ignored. I'll keep looking for a tutorial to help me specifically with how to use the information gleaned from my DNA results.

Beware of confusing cancellation…

Beware of confusing cancellation process and lack of refunds. I signed up for Ancestry’s free trial and believed I had canceled before it renewed. Unfortunately, I later discovered I had missed one of several confirmation steps in their cancellation process — something that's very easy to do, as it’s not straightforward. Despite never using the service after the trial, I was charged for two months and hit with an early termination fee. I explained the situation, and while customer service was polite, they only refunded the cancellation fee — not the monthly charges for a service I didn’t use. Their cancellation and refund policy feels more like a trap than a service. Be very careful if you sign up, and make absolutely sure your cancellation goes through. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you're 100% certain you’ll use the service — and even then, watch your billing carefully.

I am not convinced that the DNA…

1.I am not convinced that the DNA results are accurate. My surname could provide similar results. I have Canadian Indigenous roots in my family on my paternal side yet this was not reflected. 2. The DNA kit was a gift from my kids but the program/site is set up as a bit of a money grab. I would like to have had options to have a 2 month membership that was outright and not a continuing membership. I did not see this as an option

Basic DNA results were interesting but…

Basic DNA results were interesting but pretty limited. Very little additional functionality available with included basic membership. Many of the more powerful and useful functions require a paid monthly membership with a minimum of 6 months. I was very disappointed there is no function to merge trees unless you export to GEDCOM and combine using a different providers like MyHeritage.

I used to love Ancestry, not any more

Ancestry's product is good. I've joined and rejoined many times over the years. My complaint is about their subscriptions (specifically canceling), their website account UI, and their customer service. I joined with a six-month membership, which will soon be expiring. My billing is monthly, so I understand that I can't cancel in advance, but I wanted to make sure my membership would not auto-renew. Apparently, that is not possible until the last payment clears. The user interface did not have that option, and their help articles weren't helpful. When I tried to cancel a week ago, it gave me the option to cancel for a $25 fee, so I waited. My monthly payment cleared this morning, so I tried again. This time it didn't even give me the option to cancel – step one it did, but then I needed to pick one of three choices, and none of them were "cancel". On the positive side, I used their online AI support tool, asked for a human, and got one – maybe. While I think it was a human, I'm not sure because their messages were very abrupt. They canceled my membership a month early with no questions and no explanation – and no acknowledgement of my "thank you" to them. If it was a person, either they are poorly trained, or stressed and overworked. Either way, this is their management's responsibility.

Not helpful of History you already know.

The issue with Ancestry is I can not add far more people that I know that are my ancestors. I am block until I join Ancestry. If I could add the ones I know then I would join as I would need the help. The one that I don't know or having a problem with I then could use the help of the extra sites they offer. In the mean time Family Home Search is allowing me to add more and have been helpful free of charge.
