Worst rental company ever

Worst rental company ever. Waited 45 min for a shuttle after checking in on their app as directed. When I called the agent told me a driver that was near us was loading passengers then would come pick us up. I watch the tracker he was in the same spot over 30 min and when he arrived after the call he had no other passengers, then told me he was going to wait there another 20 min, which i said I've already been waiting an hour and I would have rented from another company had I known this. He obliged and we drove to the rental center. When I got to the rental center I was charged a $500 deposit for a $24 rental that I had already prepaid for and told the insurance policy i paid through the rental service would not be accepted, so I had to provide my personal insurance number, not an issue but I am Jaf already paid for their rental insurance coverage when i booked the car. They tried to change my car to a lesser because initially I refused to give them any thing additional. The agents in the facility were absolutely rude to ever customer in there. The only nice person I met was the attendant at the exit. I highly recommend not renting from them. I told them I will never rent from them in the future. They will try to swindle you out of additional money and hidden deposits which they said are on their site but I never once saw until I went and dug through the fine print by location on their website. FYI their deposits can range from 500-2000 had to dig through their policy page but found that.

Routes Positive Review

The pricing is lower than any other rental company I have used so far. This keeps me coming back. I am going back and forth to see my brother once a month or so. I need a car once reaching my destination. The only suggestion I have is Routes needs to work on the check in process. It can be really slow. I will continue to rent from Routes.

No Customer Service Sympathy

No Customer Service Sympathy. Dear Routes and Future Clients... I tried to rent a car from you to save some money and support the "smaller local" business. Reservation was easy and effective. Thought I was set for a good trip (to attend a funeral service of a former workmate). My flight from Seattle to Atlanta was cancelled by the airline of my choice. This was due to unexpected bad weather in Atlanta and then airport closure as Atlanta suffered an airline incident that same day. I rescheduled my flight on a second airline for next flight out of Seattle. This flight got me to Atlanta after my initial expected rental car pick up time. So I called Routes Car Rental to advise them of my late arrival. They told me that it was too bad that I was rerouted in my flights and that they would be closed when I arrived...and then stated I needed to come the next day after they open at 8am local time to pick up my car. I explained that would not work for me as I needed the car early the next morning to drive south in Georgia to make it in time for my friends funeral service. I was told they could not help me with my request and that operating hours had no flexibility. So i asked to cancel my reservation and get a refund. They said I could do that, but they would not refund me as my reservation was paid in full in advance...but I could appeal that to their customer Service branch. Long story short, I appealed and after 3-4 emails back and forth showing my initial cancelled airline ticket, they told me my refund was denied as I paid in advance! Crazy....!! So I ate the cost. And by the way, when I arrived at Atlanta at 3am in the morning, I was able to get very effective help via Avis at that off normal operating hour and during the snow storm at Atlanta's airport. No excuses, just pure good customer service and help. So the small guy is not always the best... as they are not flexible and do not operate 24/7. Be aware! For me, paying more was so much better. Never again will I try to use Routes Car Rental.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. They pile on numerous fees that are not disclosed. If booked through Expedia, or any other service, they do not and will not accept the insurance bought from the third party. Additionally, their insurance does not cover anything either. They will literally screw you out of every single penny possible and have a smile on their face while it happens. Every single aspect of this company sucks. The shuttle drivers are dangerous, the phones never get answered, they put you in a crappier car to make you upgrade and have to pay more, and then they will not use lube when the cram in their fees and charges for EVERYTHING. I was told the windshield would be covered and guess what? ITS NOT, despite assurances it was. The insurance they provide does nothing and was twice as much as the full coverage offered through Expedia. They are forcing me to pay for all of the repairs. Do not waste your time, money or energy on this company. Go with an actual reputable company.

Terrible second rental

My second time renting a vehicle in the last month. The second time was an awful experience. Vehicle did mot have a full fuel tank, the women at the counter was very dismissive. Routes also apparently had a policy in place that is for every driver it is an additional $14 a day. (Even though we are married and on the same insurance policy) The car itself was only $5 a day. I left my sons toy in the shuttle (my fault) I tried calling to see if the shuttle was coming back to the airport and was on hold for over 20 mins with no answer.

No car, charged anyway

You cancelled the reservation via text, confirmed the cancellation when we called, and charged my card anyway. Then did not reply to my attempts to reach out. I have submitted a credit card dispute.

Routes refuses to admit that the rental car 4-wheel drive does not work

The Jeep Wrangler 4 wheel drive does not work. The police officer at Brekenridge parking lot tried to put it in 4 wheel mode and it shows 4H on the dash board but the two front wheels do not turn. When I drove the car back to Denver it stopped on the high way and a tow truck driver tried to put it in 4-wheel mode. The same thing happen but when I returned the car they claims that the car is working.

Routes cheap non-refundable rates are a Scam!

My plane arrived at San Juan Airport airport on at 3:45 PM. I got my bag and called the number to get the shuttle. It took 4 tries to get thru, but I found the place to wait. A lot of people were waiting for the same Allied van for different companies. We watched at least 3 of several other shuttles go by as we waited about 30 minutes. When the van arrived the driver made a big show of hemming and hawing and looking at peoples paperwork and phones. He finally let ten? of us on the van. By the time we got to the office we had wasted at least a half hour. by the time I got to the desk it was 20 minutes later. My reservation confirmation number was. NRLPD664388 thru Priceline for 4PM. I got to the desk at 5:10. The twerp at the desk informed me the non-refundable reservation was cancelled because I was over an hour late. I clearly would not have been but for the company's malfeasance.

Make me sick

worst company ever, I paid in advance through another company a hihg fee to include all insurrances, once in the counter they said I have to get an extra insurrance, I demostrated I already paid that one, but they said that if I did not pay the additional one they will not rent me the car. after all the travel from abroad then a bus that took one hour with kids, what else can you do than pay them, those tactics to rob people just make me sick. do not make the mistake of using this company

Fine Print and WTF?

I'll stipulate upfront that I bear the ultimate responsibility for this "mess" up, but I think that Routes nevertheless is a shady operator. I had reserved a week's long car out of O'Hare airport in Chicago. Just per chance, the night before I was to get the car, I was looking at reviews online and noticed how many remarked that in several of their markets - like Chicago - locals may not rent. To even get a car, you have to have a round-tip ticket. They get to make the rules. I get it. But I do not understand what in God's name the rationale could be. Is local money any less valuable than outsider's money? Yes, it is there in the "Rules and Regulations" (along with the usual pages of other rules/regulations), but it strikes me as a deceitful way to swindle. There are no refunds, and there's not even a credit given for a future purchase. So, I'm out hundreds of dollars. To avoid this problem, you would think that they could set up the reservation software so that if it sees one entering a local address, it at least provides a warning, but better yet, it would prohibit the person from continuing the reservation. AVOID THIS COMPANY! Their reply does not even address my questions, nor does it even attempt a reconciliation. Scam! They should be investigated by the FTC.

Customer service is atrocious

Customer service is atrocious. What you see on your reservation is about 1/5th of what you'll pay at the counter. Waited over an hour at the Orlando airport for a shuttle. I still have a $500 security deposit charge on my account despite it being charged over a month ago and us returning the car 3 1/2 weeks ago. I've called multiple times and been on hold for hours waiting for "the next available agent." AVOID AT ALL COSTS
