I prepaid for a Routes Car Rental Car…

I prepaid for a Routes Car Rental Car in Chicago near O'hare. Unlike the major car rental companies, Routes is off-airport, requiring an 8 min shuttle ride to their lot. This was a little inconvenient but the lower advertised price made it seem worth the hassle. Upon arriving at the office, the Routes staff was rude, bordering on hostile; He informed me that there would be a $30 daily surcharge for taking the car out of state, $500 sec. deposit, $60 daily fine for going out of state....all extra charges not mentioned earlier. It was apparent, now that I was at this remote office in a sketchy area late at night, the plan was to intimidate me into paying far more than the agreed upon price. When I voiced my concerns to the agent, he claimed I was being disrespectful and said he was refusing to rent me a car and he also instructed the van driver not to give me a ride back to the airport. So now I was stranded there in what felt like a potentially dangerous situation. After 30 min wait and a $25 Uber, I eventually got back to O'Hare and rented from a reputable agency. Routes has repeatedly refused to refund my money.

Great Service :)

I had excellent service at both pick up and drop off, both went smooth and fast thanks to workers Kalki at the front dest who helped me with the pick up and Allen who assisted at drop off. All staff including the shuttle drivers were super friendly and helpful!! I recommend this place if you are needing to rent a car in the Denver area.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

NOTE: This review is for the Ft Lauderdale, Florida location only, not the Mississaga one. I had to submit it here because the Ft Lauderdale location is not listed. Ft Lauderdale Airport, Florida, USA: I rented a car for over a week in at this location. It was not a good experience. First, after arriving at the airport and taking the shuttle bus to the main car rental depot, you must take a SECOND shuttle bus from the car rental depot to their office. Their office is in a relatively poor part of town. They would not accept my Canadian car rental insurance coverage, so I was forced to buy their insurance and ended up paying over double what I had agreed to. The car had a tire leak, which I had to pay twice to fill up with air. Finally, it took about 2 1/2 weeks for them to refund me the $250 US security deposit. This is why you should only go with reputable companies like Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Budget, National, Alamo, and so on. You may pay a bit more, but you get the proper level of service. Always check the reviews before you book!

They don’t make it clear that they don’t rent to Florida residents. You don’t find out until you get to the rental facility. Many google reviews are negative. Should have listened to them

I rented a vehicle from 3 January 2025-…

I rented a vehicle from 3 January 2025- 14 Jan 2025. I’m still waiting for my deposit money, more than 2 months later. I have contacted the company 3 times already and they keep saying they will send a note to their accounts branch. Also, I waited almost three hours to finally drive out of there in the rental, even after having a confirmation through their web page. There were a high volume of customers already there waiting in line, and sometimes one agent at the counter. Two or three of the personnel just standing around or just pretending to be busy looking busy. The one that finally waited on me was hard to understand even in Spanish. Why is it also that the company won’t insure anything under 2019 vehicles year and I have to use your insurance, when my USAA auto insure covers my 2001 Dodge Dakota. Don’t make a single lick of sense.

BEWARE. Misleading reg info.

Misleading registration. First 400 words of cancellation policy suggests I can cancel up to 48 hours in advance - which was why I proceeded with my booking. But FAKE NEWS….apparently I booked as a “prepaid” customer - a category that cannot cancel. NO WHERE was there anything in the booking process that mentioned anything about “prepaid” or suggested an option. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!

Getting refunded

I showed up on time and needed a major credit card to rent the vehicle. They had already taken the money out my account. They was unable to refund me at the counter. I had to email customer care for a refund. Days later i am still waiting for a email reply back for my refund. You guys should be taking money out an account until people check in and is actually able to rent the vehicle.

Don't try to uncharged,put someone in office who can deal with problems

When you book online and issue receipt for total cost then try to sneak in up charges as "taxes which they are not ,that's pretty sneaky and not honest. Also when a person trys to cancel online and when u won't let them,that's sneaky,then when a person shows up at desk to pick up car ,that was booked online there was Noone in office who could cancel the reservation so credit card could be changed to match driver,also there was Noone in office who could explain why a deposit was needed ,when I the online booking it is not mentioned,and finally I suppose your going to try to charge a fee for cancelation, even though your unmentioned up charges caused this to happen. Right now the person who booked this is going to report it as fraud,because you failed to mention the upcharges,that are not taxes,license fee is not a tax it's a fee,road tax is companies responsibility car renter. So I understand how modern online business works some companies use all these techniques to not honour the online deal,they say anything to get your credit card number and start running charges on it hoping they can get away with the upcharges that wete not mentioned. Old adage if it's too good to be true ,it's likely not true.

Seriously, do not rent, waste of money.

Sooo many hidden fees, no flexibility whatsoever and no will to make up for it. ”The company is evil” is what the employees behind the counter said. They have a hidden fee of 100$ PER DAY if you are an underage driver. The man behind the counter told me to go to another car rental company down the road because they do not recommend their own company. Its been three months since I rented this car, got to the dealership, got denied, got my booking cancelled, called up customer service and STILL have not got my money back. If I had to choose between getting an arrow through my leg or renting another car via this company, I would gladly paint a red dot for aim on my kneecap.

Had the worst customer experience in my…

Had the worst customer experience in my life at the Routes in Fort Lauderdale. Not only did they want to charge us $375US extra than our original booking but the "manager" on duty was rude, yelled at several customers and demanded that I speak in English, instead of French, with my husband and a fellow customer. When I said that I had a right to speak in any language that I wanted, he told me that it was a private property and that I needed to leave if I wasn't going to speak in English. He then proceeded to speak in Spanish with his work colleague. We were three different customers with bookings that left without a car rental because of the abuse and surcharges.

It took me 4 try's to get the payment…

It took me 4 try's to get the payment area of the online form to work, and i could not even use my 10% off coupon the code MAR10 came up invalid and would not let me move forward without removing it. I tried calling both phone numbers but no one ever answered.

Very pushy trying to upsell you things…

Very pushy trying to upsell you things you do not need and just down right lied. I had to call my insurance company to set the obnoxious and rude lady taking "care" of me straight. Then they gave me a full size pickup truck. I reserved a midsize suv. I was going to see my 91yr old mom and handicapped sister, I had trouble getting in!
