I prepaid everything via EconomyBookings—including the concession fee—but at pickup they refused to review my valid credit card insurance (which covers over CAD 100,000) and forced me into buying their CDW coverage. That extra insurance then triggered additional concession fees, which I was forced to pay as well. Weeks later they tried to justify their actions with false claims about my coverage—claims I disproved with clear documentation. After that, they went completely silent and ignored every follow-up. This company preys on travelers after long flights, piles on unwarranted fees, and refuses to take responsibility. Absolutely disgraceful service. Update following Routes’ response: If Routes truly “strives to be transparent,” why have they completely ignored all my follow-up emails? They have not contacted me at all since I provided full documentation of my valid credit card insurance coverage—which meets or exceeds their vehicle requirements. Their response here doesn’t explain why my coverage was rejected at pickup, nor does it cite which specific policy or requirement was not met. I was given no explanation at the counter, just forced into buying their CDW coverage on the spot. If my insurance didn’t qualify, why not clearly state what was missing or allow me to remedy it? Instead of addressing the issue or contacting me directly, they now post vague and generic replies that dodge the core problem: no accountability, no customer support, and no transparency. This is not the kind of service travelers should have to deal with—stay away from Routes Car Rental Calgary.
