I visited the Greggs outlet on Carrington Street Nottingham this morning at 06:35. I joined a very small queue and whilst waiting to be served I was observing one member of staff spraying cleaning products behind the food counter and using a cloth to wipe whatever surface they had just sprayed. Once it was my turn a different member of staff took my order, following doing so the other member of staff still spraying cleaning fluid and wiping the surface with I would assume now a dirty cloth turned around and started handling food namingly my food order with their bare hands.
I challenged and pointed out that they have just literally stopped cleaning surfaces and were now handling food, were they not going to wash their bare hands? The other member of staff stopped them and sent them off to wash/sanitise their hands, on return they threw the bread that they had initially started preparing on the floor, (my assumption was that it was meant for the bin) and continued serving food.
My point is this……. During Covid hygene standards were so high they were off the chart, today in 2025 those same hygiene standards have certainly depleted and are seemingly non existent, staff are serving food with bare hands and who knows what they have been touching or wiping on them, in this case straight from cleaning surfaces to handling food. This was first hand experience and observation, cleanliness/hygiene should be high priority, it wasn’t this morning as staff are sweeping floors and wiping surfaces down only 5 minutes after the outlet has opened…….disgusting and disgraceful!
