A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

If it was possible to give no stars I…

If it was possible to give no stars I would. Supposed to have joined them in June where they took two months payments at once then took another three months direct debits. I then get an email from my previous supplier wanting paying off them.i find out I'm not even signed up to economy energy and they've taken 4 payments. This is FRAUD. Ring up to get a refund to be told it will take 28 days to get my money back that they literally stole from me. More than 28 days pass and still no refund. Ring up again to be told they've got no record of a refund so it will take another 28 days. They have no complaints department or refund department that can be contacted by anyone on the outside. Only internal email. DO NOT USE THIS ENERGY SUPPLIER. TERRIBLE

This is the worst Utility Company in…

This is the worst Utility Company in the whole Universe, I left them in June 2018, and only just now have I received my credit of Β£100+, their helpline is pathetic, their telephone enquiry service is like the Carlsberg complaints desk, ie no one ever answers it, their complaints e mail facility is like trying to contact god. Any potential customers, STAY WELL CLEAR, if you join this bunch of cowboys you will age by 10 years overnight. Any aggrieved customers, deal the the Utility Ombudsman direct dont waste your time, energy & sanity dealing with Economy Energy as they will seriously damage your health. After 5 months of stress & fustration I am finally free from these goons, how they are still is business defies logic, Economy Energy good riddance

Totally incompetent

Totally incompetent , had a smart meter fitted 4month ago but still taking estimated readings although over Β£400 in credit . Changed suppliers over 1 month ago but still taking payments , so now I am paying 2 suppliers Contacted them and just fobbed off they are not concerned we are in our eighties and being put into hardship WARNING STEAR CLEAR

Leaving this company has been a…

Leaving this company has been a nightmare. Moving to this company was easy and cheaper than other alternatives. I have been with them previously and never had any concerns. However they have been a nightmare on leaving them this time. The insisted on fitting a smart meter, even though I explained I would be comparing prices within the next few weeks and probably moving. This meant that although I left in early May, paid my 'final' bill on the 20 June, I have continued to be hounded for additional payments. I requested explanations for this but never received anything. Today I was advised that having a smart meter meant that the final readings were not confirmed until the 20 and 24 July, so in the end have paid up just to get away from them. I would seriously consider avoiding this company. Not sure if it was the smart meter causing the problem or not. If this is the case more customers will get caught out by this. My trust in them has gone.

I am 72 years old and in all that time…

I am 72 years old and in all that time I have never felt tempted to seek out a forum where I can vent my feelings but I feel that I have been driven to it by economy energy. I June I noticed that my account was in credit by over Β£200 so I made various calls video calls and e mails to the company to at least for a partial refund or at least reduce my direct debit to zero until the balance was at a more reasonable level on all accounts they found so many excuses not to oblige I decided I would change supplier thinking that would be a quicker way of getting my money back surprise surprise it was not switch completed on the 9 sept and after various communications manage to get a final bill for both energy indicating that the owe me Β£176 this they promised would be paid by the latest end of October no such luck they now say another 28 days but I got no doubt that date will come and go I feel the only way out will be the small claims court or something like that. my advise can only be stay clear of this company or you will land up with higher blood pressure than normal. Barry I have just been trawling thro some of the other comments on this company and I am amazedthat someone has not stepped I n to sort it out also what the point in fining them 250000 when that's all they do is not refund three money's they owe people typical More and more upset about this. Can il afford to lose this money

Avoid

Avoid, issues with billing and tariffs. I left on 03/08/2018 and I still haven't received my refund for the credit that I had on my account, it took until 24/10 for them to generate my final bill after numerous telephone and email exchanges. Now that I have my final bill I have been advised the refund process can start but there are no timescales on how long that will take as that is their "process" not acceptable if it was the other way round they would be all over me asking for money.
