A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Ovo Energy is putting things right.

Ovo Energy has been working hard for two months now to sort the mess left by Economy Energy. This week Ovo fully activated my new online account with them and I'm pleased with the balance (Β£140 credit). There is a Β£50 ombudsman award not shown but as I stopped EE's Direct Debit last September the Β£50 will about cover my usage from then until now. Like so many of Economy Energy's victims I am traumatised by the sheer hell that the company put me and so many others through. I don't intend to leave Ovo on a whim, just to save twenty or thirty quid or so. I no longer trust the energy market and will stay with who I trust, and as of this week I trust Ovo Energy completely,

Left EE April 18

Left EE April 18. waited for my refund as i thought it should be automatic. Contacted them in Oct 18 and again Nov 18. I was old i had to ask for refund its not automatic, when i asked when money will be refunded. i was literally told dont know. He must have known they are going in administration. They owe me app Β£270. I think i should try my bank first under direct debit indemnity. will keep you posted!!

Don't give up........

Don't give up.Today,the 12th February,I rang OVO tel.no.from a landline 01179 303100. After hanging on for 19 minutes and a five minute conversation,I was promised that my refund will be dealt with and the money will be in my account by the end of the month.Sounds familiar,I can only wait and see.

Bit pointless some people still writing…

Bit pointless some people still writing reviews on Economy Energy, they are bust, as I'm one of many ex customers of this corrupt company and owed money what would be helpful is to hear of anybody who has since got refunds from the "supplier of last resort" OVO Energy? has anybody been contacted? I tried calling but give up after being on hold for 20mins.

Awful customer service

Despite being in credit for a dual fuel account (gas in credit, electricity in debit), Economy Energy continually pursued me for money. Very threatening and unhelpful customer service. They refused to refund me my gas credit (which would have more than offset the debit) which I believe they are not allowed to do. Had to go via citizen advice and resolver to get this settled in the end. Took a further month to get the money they owed me back. Would never return to them.

Terrible

Terrible - totally useless and objectionable firm. My bills kept being from readings of zero (new smart meters). Every bill went higher and higher from this obvious blunder but in the end I went to the Ombudsman and got rebilled, refunded, compensated and apologised to. I was also allowed to leave early without charge, which I more than happily did.

Worst energy company I have ever come…

Worst energy company I have ever come across. Constant energy bill increases, never saved any money after switching. After leaving in Sept 18 I’m still awaiting my credit balance, I have called several times and made complaints but they have come to nothing. Avoid like the plague.

I was shocked that this company in administration could still take money out of your bank account. I have now stopped the standing orders. The company's assets if any should be seized. Bad company .

Worst company in the world

Worst company in the world - i left them when moving house in december 2017 i thought i sorted all my bills with them and got refunded what i was owed. in July of 2018 they sent a letter to my old house knowing full well i moved tell me that they still owe me money (yay) but i didnt receive this letter until October of 2018 due to me not living at that address. upon receiving the letter i called economy energy to be told my refund will be proccess in 5-7 working days. two weeks later i ring up to say i havent received i was then told it wasnt correctly proccessed so they will do again but this time it can take upto a month. over a month passes still without receiving anything so i phone up and this next person told me that i should never have been told it can take that long as there is no limit as to how long it can take to process refunds it can take many months i was told. now its February of 2019 and im still without my money and the company is useless and now is going into administration (they deserve it) so im more than likely not going to get my money back. very unhappy.

I will take them to court

obvious thieves company. 4 months now since I left them and they did not return my money. they even increased my monthly bills without telling me. I will take them to court and I encourage everyone to do so. they keep our money in the bank to take more interest.
