A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Absolute joke of a company I would avoid at all costs, I have been trying to get a refund of credit (over £600) for months now. They told me it was policy to keep exsting customers in credit so they couldn’t refund me, so I switched suppliers and called them back again only to find out I need to wait 2 month for a bill to be generated and they’ll post that to me. (Even though ive had previous bills have been generated same day over the phone) Once I revive the bill I need to call them back and wait another 21days for them to send the refund if that day ever comes...
Just sent them another email as their staff - if it ever exist - must be busy partying for Xmas using the money STOLEN to customers like me My situation is as follow: Last October 2017 we moved into this new built semidetached . Simple 3 bedrooms. Next door hadn't been sold and we stayed till June 2018 with British Gas. Husband found economy energy, the price was good and we were "free" to move without any charge. Which we did in October as Economy En went up with the prices. Economy Energy didn't like it. Also they didn't seem to get the grasp we lived in a small place as on the gas bill it always appear a reading for 2 meters. My husband called them immediately when we spot the mistake (beginning of July). What happened is that - although we DO NOT have a smart meter, they had 2 gas meters readings: our the correct one started like 13000. Then there was another one that was only like 2050. My husband told them that the 2050 must have been the one of next door house that at the time hadn't been sold yet, as before this semidetached there was a detached house only and the builder used its old gas meter (the 1300) for our side AND a new gas meter for the side that hadn't sold yet. But economy energy wasn't going to believe us, even if we sent them photos. They had this idea that we live in a place like Buckingham Palace. Impossible to speak to anybody. Very dense customer care. Probably economy energy didn't like the fact that the summer had been so hot the gas usage had been minimal. But they took out "their" money from the direct debit like clockwork. THEY OWE US LOTS OF MONEY!!!! Each time we call them they say we will get a final bill but when? In my life I have dealt with incompetent people, but economy energy is by far the most callous and dishonest. Cowboys and THIEVES. I despise them Barbara Hardy
Hi all I did not want to do this but I have had enough!! I joined them in 2015 believing they were a good company but became involved in a to and fro over billing which took ages to resolve but I gave them a chance and for a while it seemed ok. Until the last 12months when my bills were all over the place and then bills were estimated when I have smart meters, made contact via email received sporadic and unhelpful responses asking me to send readings after being told all was fine and they were receiving them! I heard nothing and then discovered I owed them money over £200 on one bill! I contacted them again saying that this could not be right and I wanted a complete breakdown as proof, nothing! I then couldn't access my Gas bills online and this went on for months, again I contacted them and the person I spoke to didn't even know I had had smart meters installed 12 months before! Then recently I had lost it completely and filed a complaint! That was almost 2 months ago and I have heard nothing. I then also noticed that the initial debt they said I owed on the electricity had doubled to over £500 which couldn't possibly be right based on my usage and the amount I pay each month on direct debit which always paid on time and regularly. I feel extremely let down by them and have just today taken the decision to leave them. I don't know what is going wrong and I hope they can rectify this as I don't want to add to their troubles but all this has just worn me out. Absolute disgrace. They owe me over £1,000 (in credit) just on my gas account and I have 4 accounts with them but still increased my direct debit. When I asked for a refund by email they said it could only be done on the phone. So waited on hold for over an hour and never got through on 2 occasions so gave up. Do yourself a favour and avoid this company like the plague. Richard Ambler
Left this company in Oct due to them increasing my payments despite me being well in credit.When i complained they told me they could take what they wanted from my account to cover what they thought my winter bill would be.On my final bills they owed me over £500. They then took more in Nov/ which i managed to recall via the bank, Then despite cancelling the DD they made another withdrawal in Dec. Which i am attempting to claim back via the bank. I am sick of trying to deal with this company. BE WARNED STEER CLEAR
This is my third review. After changing from Economy energy in Aug 2018, I had to wait until October 2108 for my final gas and electricity statements which showed a balance of £448.63. I had been promised a payment withing 10 working days at the begining of December after putting on a bad review on trust pilot, of course it never arrived. Sent off another email after 10 working days and was told it would be sorted and a payment would be issued, of course no payment. Today I have managed to get through and now they are telling me that the statements issued were incorrect as I finished my fixed rate prices at the end end of May and they now need to apply a variable rate for the last month!!!!!!! So in other words they are trying to reduce the amount of money they owe me and delaying the payment even further. Why has it taken this amount of time to find out my bills are wrong? ~Please, Please do not go with Economy energy, they are the lowest of the low and I feel heartily sorry for people that are employed by them as they must get so much abuse. The story continues.........
Hi ee owe me over £270 pounds finished with them November 2nd these people should not be in business don't answer the phones or email conmen I ain't going to give up though. So yesterday the 31st December I rang my bank and claimed back some of the money though direct debit guarantee they took after I finished with these cowboys on the 2nd of November I emailed them to give them the good news and guess what they emailed straight back funny when you turn the tables they react still waiting for the rest though I won't give up.
I should have called the police when they sent two guys to change the meter saying it was faulty. They were going to break down my door Im still traumatised from this. I now pay £20 a week for my studio this is for lighting and fridge and TV lets hope they close it down “ money mail” has given a book of complaints from readers to Ofgem they get thousands a week as CAB I'm sorry for all who are suffering.
