Collingwood are thieves. The charge for annual policy claiming to refund the remainder if you pass mid year. But if you pass just 3 months later they charge you more for the past few months to leave you even in debt, just so they take all your annual money & then also charge you an extra £40 plus another £75 to cancel your policy when you pass your driving test. I only gave one star because the system can't allow me to give zero.

This insurance product is exclusively designed for learner drivers, allowing them to hold a full year policy and start building their driving history from the provisional license/learner stages. Although this appears beneficial for new drivers, the product has significant and serious drawbacks from a continuity perspective. The T&C's obscure the fact that once a learner passes their driving test—typically within 2 to 9 months—the underwriters will cancel the policy without any refund. From 4th month as per the T&C's 'design', you won't get anything back as refund as per the TOBA (terms of business) agreement. Both Intermediary and underwriters are owned by the same parent company, creating a conflict of interest from a consumer point of view. Additionally, the premium charged includes a large portion(about 40%) that is non-refundable, and cancellation fees applied are hidden during the quote stages, admittedly unfair - but nothing illegal about it. Interestingly, the policy document is NOT published anywhere online, and it requires a call to the customer services to see it before purchase - which raises serious ethical/transparency issues. To maximize benefits, I would recommend learners to purchase this policy as soon as their provisional license starts and schedule their driving test around the 10th month. The product has its flaws and potential for exploitation for being 'unware' of T&C's, hence it does offer a lower premium and the opportunity to build insurance history for new drivers. Have to agree with many others on here about their fees. If your like me and do not read terms and conditions because they’re so long winded then this company are rubbing their hands at the prospect of you taking out one of their policies. If you pay annually and your child passes their test, when you cancel they charge you £40 for the privilege. It’s such a bloody con it makes me sick , how you take money from kids who are still in education and get away with it is nothing short of criminal. The Thing is I was actually contemplating taking out his full insurance cover with you guys but as soon as I was told about the fee I decided to go elsewhere. So if you’re thinking of using COLLINGWOOD INSURANCE I would think again. Just off to leave more bad reviews about these on as many sites as possible.

Do not use If you pass your test quickly they will refund you nothing

I concur with everyone else here. Do not use them they are absolute scammers and they take money for their 'cancellation' fee without authorisation. They hide behind saying you agreed to it in their Ts and cs when you buy online but as we all know this is a complete scam. I can only be glad that my son didn't need to raise a claim as god knows what would have happened. to be clear if you buy an annual 'learner driver' policy and your child passes before the 12 months they retrospectively 'cancel' the policy and they take £40 as a cancelation fee. absolute con artists DO NOT USE. Look art the other reviews i am by far the only one to fall victim to this.

The entire process from start to finish was made stress free and comfortable. Dean was professional throughout and I look forward to renewing my policy with Collingwood in the near future.

Can't help feeling they are a bit of a scam. If you take out a learner driver policy for 12 months and your little cherub passes within that period they charge you a cancellation fee! It's hidden in their t s and c s. Really underhand and devious. But that's the insurance industry for you.

Avoid this company. After paying the full year's insurance in 9 months they refund nothing for the unused months but instead charge an additional £40 to cancel. This is only avoided if the learner takes the full year to pass their test. Absolute scam. I see Collingwood has responded to my review. They know that Trustpilot is not the place for me to be disclosing personal detailed information. They also know that there is a formal complaints procedure (which is incidentally ongoing in my case) and this is what they should be signposting dissatisfied clients to rather than asking for further details on Trustpilot.

I am extremely disappointed with Collingwood Insurance due to their unfair and unethical charging practices. My son had insurance with them while on a provisional license. Just four days into the new monthly cycle, they deducted the premium payment. Soon after, he passed his test on the first attempt and no longer needed provisional insurance. However, within just a week, they deducted an additional £124 from our account. To make matters worse, we were on holiday and unable to respond immediately, but without any proper notice or email follow-up, they not only deducted the full monthly premium but also charged an additional £150 for cancellation fees just three days later! This is completely unacceptable. A responsible insurance provider should at least notify customers and allow a reasonable response time before deducting such hefty amounts. Instead, Collingwood Insurance appears to take advantage of customers, charging excessive fees without proper communication. I demand a full refund of the unjustified charges. It is outrageous to make nearly £200 in just one day from a single client without considering their circumstances. This kind of customer treatment is unethical and exploitative. I strongly urge others to think twice before choosing Collingwood

Avoid like the plague! Wish I’d have read these myself before buying for my daughter. Cancel policy and lose account within 24 hours before you have had chance to save anything. Dont bother asking me for an update on this review either Collingwood because you wont be getting one! Charging over £90 for a cancellation fee, £36 for a change fee, not even as an adult with my own insurance company have to pay that sort of charge. If you want to give your child a good start. Get their insurance with someone who isnt likely to rip them them off before they even get behind your wheel when circumstances change and you have no choice but to cancel. Avoid !! This company charges a £40 fee at the end of the policy. It also cancels your account so you cannot access your information and are not helpful at all. You have to call them to pay them !! I wish I would have read the bad reviews before buying this policy, they all say the same thing !! Please do not choose to go with Collingwood, there are plenty of others around cheaper and more helpful.
