Mean company charge young people £40…

Mean company charge young people £40 cancellation fee when they pass their test! It's inevitable that the policy will be cancelled on passing this is just a way of squeezing more money out of young people who already have to pay extortionate insurance prices on passing.

£40 payable when you pass the test

Took out a policy for my daughter as a learner driver. Accepted cancellation fees would need to be paid if policy was cancelled, however as many other people have mentioned when I called to inform them that my daughter had passed her test they cancel the policy and expected me to pay £40 for the privilege. I appealed to the financial ombudsmen but to my astonishment they think this is reasonable. I reply to your actual response, I have never had anything back from you other than a text advising I owe you money. Why don't you just be clear to your customers and state when they pass, you will charge a £40 admin fee?

Total con

Total con, pay for a years insurance use only 8 months. Not only do you not get a refund. They have the brass neck to charge you a £40 cancellation fee. Disgusting company.

Don’t trust these greedy C**ts

Don’t trust these greedy C**ts, cheap quote to entice you in but they have had an extra £75 off us, £35 to change a number plate and £40 to cancel as son passed test. Had the insurance less than a month, no flexibility, and certainly only employ staff with a pitball attitude, please do not use this company.

If i could give 1star I would-Rip off merchants-buy elsewhere

If i could give 1star I would. Rip off company. When you pass your test and cancel as you are not a learner anymore- buyers beware you have to pay a cancellation fee. Total rip off. It is NOT made clear. At all. Use another company. Disgusted.

Deceptive, rude, and incompetent!!!! DO NOT USE

I recently had a deeply unsatisfactory experience with Collingwoods Learner Driver Insurance Broker, and I feel compelled to share my disappointment regarding their exorbitant cancellation fees and unprofessional customer service. As a UK-based company, I had expected a higher standard of service and respect for customer needs, but unfortunately, my encounter with Collingwoods fell far below my expectations. After my son held a learner driver policy for just four months, he successfully passed his driving test, which, according to their policy terms, triggered a mandatory cancellation of the policy. As he initiated the cancellation process, we were shocked by the excessive fees demanded by Collingwoods for this seemingly routine procedure. Moreover, the most frustrating aspect of this ordeal was the encounter with a customer service representative named Michael. His obstructive and rude behavior left a lasting negative impression on us. When I requested his full name for future reference and escalation purposes, he unreasonably refused to provide it. Furthermore, he interrupted me while I was speaking, displaying a complete lack of respect for my concerns and inquiries. When I asked to speak with a manager to address my dissatisfaction, he flat-out denied my request and dismissed my concerns without offering any resolution. To make matters worse, during our conversation, Michael insisted on unnecessarily requesting MY personal sensitive data, which raised serious privacy concerns. There was no valid reason for him to insist on such information, especially when it had no relevance to the inquiry or the cancellation process. This breach of trust and disregard for customer privacy is simply unacceptable. Collingwoods Learner Driver Insurance Broker needs to address these significant issues urgently. First and foremost, their cancellation fees must be reevaluated to ensure they align with industry standards and do not burden customers with disproportionate charges. Secondly, the company must focus on providing professional and respectful customer service. Rude and obstructive behavior, such as that exhibited by Michael, tarnishes the reputation of the company and leaves customers feeling undervalued and disrespected. I strongly encourage Collingwoods Learner Driver Insurance Broker to take immediate action to rectify these issues. Customers should never be subjected to unprofessional behavior or unnecessary requests for personal information. Furthermore, a prompt and genuine apology, along with a commitment to improving their cancellation process and customer service, is warranted. Regrettably, based on our experience, we cannot recommend Collingwoods Learner Driver Insurance Broker to others seeking learner driver insurance. Prospective policyholders should be aware of the potential for excessive cancellation fees and disrespectful customer service when dealing with this company. I cannot put personal sensitive data on a review such as a policy number.

ABYSMAL- AVOID COLLINGWOOD

ABYSMAL! My son passed today after having a policy for no time at all. I didn't fully read the hidden terms and conditions and find we are HAMMERED with fees. DON'T GET LEARNER DRIVER YEARLY INSURANCE WITH COLLINGWOOD, GO ELSEWHERE! Legalised scam it is.

Terrible - Penalties and Charges

Terrible ! Avoid! Daughter passed her test today after just 7 weeks on policy - hit with what can only be described as ‘penalty fees’ for passing her test. Of course it’s legal and they’ve buried it in their T&Cs to justify it. I am frankly bored of reading their ‘cut and paste’ responses to a whole community of other disgruntled customers who have reported exactly the same experience as we have. Sadly we will never win against a company like this and they will keep scamming people, including young drivers whilst they can keep making money from ridiculous fees and cancellation charges. Surely the point of a learner policy is for the learner to PASS their test ?!!! I will ensure all my friends who are parents of young drivers have their eyes wide open when considering learner driver policies! What a disgrace. Shame on you Collingwood.

Wish I'd looked on here first! Don't expect a refund if cancelling early.

Wish I'd looked on here first!! Took out the annual learner insurance policy. Daughter passed in under 6 months, so entitled to a 25% refund. Oh no! There's a hidden £70 "intermediary fee" that doesn't count as part of the premium, then a £40 "cancellation fee" that isn't referred to anywhere in the 40 pages of the policy document! There's a very brief mention of "Please note that any refund from us whether during or after the reflection period may be subject to a further cancellation charge levied by your insurance intermediary" ...but as I took the policy out direct with them one would assume that doesn't apply. But "direct" apparently isn't quite "direct" as they have their own intermediary subsidiary. Seems dishonest at best. So a warning folks - don't expect a refund. By my calculations, you'd only get something back if you cancel in the first 3 months!!! I suggest taking out a monthly policy...or better still, avoid them until they're more up front about their cancellation charges!

If I could leave zero stars I would. Avoid this company at all costs. Just cancelled my son's insurance and they want £40 cancellation fee but no refund for the unused months. Never heard of this anywhere before and I can't see anything in the terms on the account to say you have to pay in full if you cancel early. Do they not realise we are in a cost of living crisis, the robbing *****.

Stay clear of these con artists!!! They charge you a massive cancellation fee once you pass your test. 2 months of insurance and they want the whole years worth of policy paid for....Google reviews for them lots of ppl have been duped by them. Currently in contact with citizens advice about this company!!!

Unfair Cancellation Charges

Had this insurance for 9 months. Once my daughter passed I understood that she wouldn’t get a refund of the final 3 months. But to actually be charged an additional £40 cancellation fee is a disgrace. Not allowed to just let it expire as was told they would cancel the policy & it would be held against her. And having read other responses to reviews yes it may have been read out in the terms & conditions but this doesn’t make it fair. How many youngsters pass their test at exactly 12 months. Why not just add the cost to the policy making it clear how much this will actually cost.
