Untrustworthy

Firstly, Princess Cruises turned out to be quite unreliable. We had six shore excursions planned, but the most important one — viewing the glaciers and icebergs — was canceled without adequate explanation. Another excursion, originally meant to take us to the city of Victoria, was substituted with a visit to a much smaller, unremarkable location, the name of which we don’t even remember. For these cancellations and itinerary changes, we were given just $200 USD per person as compensation — and even that had to be spent onboard. This felt insufficient and disappointing. Secondly, getting access to drinking water onboard was surprisingly inconvenient. Guest cabins were located between decks 6 and 14 (we stayed on deck 8), but the only place with self-serve drinking water was on deck 15. Each time we needed water, we had to carry our own thermos all the way up, and elevator wait times could be long. Alternatively, bottled water (800ml) was available at the bar for over $3 USD each, but the bar staff were not always honest. On three occasions when two bottles were purchased, the family was twice charged for three. Refunds were only issued after complaints were made at the front desk.

Very disappointing.

Very disappointing. This is the 8th cruise we’ve been on (including others from the same group - Royal Caribbean & Celebrity). The ship (Sun Princess) is nice, but unless you are a meat eating American who likes X-factor style singers it isn’t for you. The breakfast consists of around 20 stations, 17 of which seem to serve variations of exactly the same thing (bacon, sausage, beans, egg - and pretty much in the same format - e.g. there are no poached eggs or eggs Florentine.). The buffet for dinner and tea is also poor. Same every day, and not great quality. It's also very bland. There are a couple of token Indian dishes, and even those are bland too. The entertainment is naff singers for the main part. We had 2 dreadful comedians. The only bright spot was the magician (Mike Bones) who was great. You have to pay for shuttles, the sunbeds get nabbed and left reserved all day without Princess doing anything about it, and even the kids sports area has basketballs but no football! It’s like non-Americans and non-meat eaters are second class citizens. Even the sandwich bar often only has a choice of meat sandwiches half of the time. On top of that they force you to carry a tracker, and they state on their app that they are capturing your facial recognition data (no idea why, but it surely is unnecessary and seems a breach of privacy). I asked for a normal card rather than the tracker pendant (which is magnetic and emits EMF) but they said I couldn’t have a card. I was looking forward to better entertainment and much better food, but left disappointed. This is the worse cruise we’ve been on for food, sport, entertainment and privacy. I’m posting the review here, rather than at the end of the cruise, as if my experience with Celebrity is anything to go by, they tend not to bother listening to genuine feedback.

We booked the Princess Premier Package and for 2 days now they've blocked my stepsons medallion insisting he can only buy non alcoholic drinks. He's 28 years old!! The ship is tired and a lot smaller cabins than other cruiselines we've used. Spent more time at guest services than enjoying the actual cruise

Cruised to Alaska from San Francisco

Cruised to Alaska from San Francisco. Second day, the toilet flooded, slipped and fell because of the water. A known bacteria on the ship caused my Dr. visit on IV for 3 days and no food for 5 days. Hassled about gratuities after this hell of a vacation and walked off with covid entire family. They have the nerve to ask for thousands of dollars in medical bills. The captain was drunk and hit the deck and caused damage to the ship as we arrived and next cruise was docked for several days while ship was being repaired. Cruise straight from hell.

One star is too generous!

One star is too generous!! Absolutely appalling. We paid £3000 for a 12 night cruise. Got conned with the change of the drinks packages and had to pay more for the new benefits. Which stupidly we did. Then the cabin had a bang we were ignored by guest services for 6 days+ it was only when other guests complained about the noise that 2 officers and a maintenance man came to investigate then we were magically able to move cabins. From a balcony to an inside cabin. Then we were faced with a boom every time the ship hit the waves as we were by the lifts. No sleep for most of the trip so did not even have the energy to get off the ship for several ports as the lack of sleep triggered health issues which are manageable with a good night sleep. Food was rubbish. The plus package premium desserts were "for demonstration purposes only" yet more false advertising. Absolutely shameful experience will never use again. Had I of seen this before booking we would have not gone. Avoid sky princess e442!!

Sold a package that was changed prior to my Journey and was not honoured, then others when complaining had there's honoured where my package wasn't. The customer service was very poor on this voyage.

Just got back off 12 day cruise to the…

Just got back off 12 day cruise to the Canaries Good Points: *Staff were fantastic couldn't do more to help you always polite and caring. *Decor was good impressive and ship felt well maintained. *Main Dining food was always good and staff were again fantastic *World Marketplace always had a wide range of food and even if finding a seat sometimes was difficult again staff great. *Our Interior cabin was quiet and room staff were fantastic. *Some entertainment was great * The Ocean now was good idea when it worked but food and service to cabin was very good. Not so Good points: *Princess welched on what they promised changing the packages and what was included after paying in full this is not on. *Parents balcony cabin on Baja Creaked and creaked loudly and others said same. *Some entertainment was a bit tacky low quality needed bit more variation. *Princess Live was too small for a ship this size could never get a seat. *App was very buggy hit and miss sometimes putting phantom drinks on tab and saying it would charge then not orders disappearing. Staff did best to try and get around its quirks it felt sorry for them. Overall we enjoyed the ship and our cruise it just was annoying a few easy to fix things hadn't been. Ship could do with more seats in general dotted around there is space. The app needs looking into and more use of venues to spread people across ship would help. One thing that stood out was how great the staff were and very grateful to them for all their hard work and unwavering spirt.

IRS is way easier to deal with.

We haven't sailed yet but with the way they make it nearly impossible to work with, either on the phone of on their primitive and non responsive website, I am having second thoughts. We had a fantastic experience last time on their boat. Now it seems they are employing all their best sales prevention techniques to avoid dealing with customers. Pitiful

Just returned on Friday from the Sky…

Just returned on Friday from the Sky princess after a trip round the canaries and Portugal. First cruise with princess cruises and the last. The entertainment is the worst iv ever seen on a cruise ship . One show was that bad they cancelled the 2nd show of the night but did not inform people so we sat in theatre for 20 minutes before we left and found out for ourselves that show had been cancelled. Do princess not do background checks on the acts they put on . In total 3 shows were cancelled in the theatre which we were not offered any on board spending to compensate us , after all we had paid for the shows as part of our package. The show team themselves were really good but the rest of entertainment is worse than poor . Worst of all the captain put a safely announcement out about the weather but never put the announcement on for people in the cabins to hear . So if we had not been told by another passenger we would have had no idea of the safely warning been put out when the sea was at its worst. Never again sail with this outfit

Nice Cruise ship - shame about the cabin noise.

We went on a 12 night cruise on the Sky Princess to the Canaries, departing Southampton on October 29th 2023. Overall we had an enjoyable time. We found the ship clean and attractive and all of the crew friendly and helpful. The balcony cabin was clean and the food good. Now the bad points; Our cabin C201 on deck 10 was very noisy when the ship was underway. This was not noise from adjacent cabins or from the inevitable sea noise which can be experienced on almost any cruise ship. It was coming from within the cabin structure - much loud banging and knocking which could actually be FELT through the cabin walls. We mentioned this to Customer Relations who told us nothing could be done about it as it was a fundamental problem in the build. Speaking to other passengers we were not alone with this problem and it didn't appear to be confined to deck 10. I don't think its unreasonable to ask for a sound nights' sleep when on a cruise. Overall nice cruise - shame about the noise !

Old outdated ship and company

I booked a cruise for my wife and I, it was our first vacation in three years and I was looking forward to relaxing. We’ve been hit with a myriad of issues in just a few days so far. First - it’s impossible to get a seat at a restaurant. Customer service told my wife that our app had an error which made it so that we couldn’t book reservations so now we are stuck going to the buffet for every single meal. Next, the air conditioning going out across the entire front of the ship - we tried to call down to ask what the deal was, but our phone hasn’t worked since our first night aboard. So we walked down after midnight to guest services where we were stonewalled by a totally unhelpful staff member who frequently interrupted us and told us they knew and that the technicians were working on it and that we needed to “just be patient”. After not having AC for five hours and not being able to sleep, I don’t appreciate being told I need to “be patient”. I would never sail with Princess again. I’ll overlook the tacky decor, lack of dining options, and confusing medallion benefits. But customer service telling you that you “just need to be patient” when you and other passengers are sitting outside of your rooms because they can’t sleep due to their air conditioning not working? Stay away

Princess Target Demographic Gets More Elderly

Princess I believe has lost their way and may be out of business in a decade unless they change their target audience approach. We took a Princess cruise back in 2016 and nothing much has changed (except for the excellent new Medallion Class system), especially that the target age group is increasingly more elderly. The median age on board this cruise must have been 75 with many people well into their 80's and 90's, which is fine if one is in that category, but not so great for younger couples or families. The evening entertainment targets this age group with acts repeating the same material, including Honeymooners, Archie Bunker, Jimmy Durante, Lawrence Welk, James Cagney, ...well you get the picture. Three separate acts during our cruise all did Johnny Carson impressions, which were very good and at least somewhat relevant to me as a 60 year old. However, anyone 5 years younger may not be so enthused. They will need to change their entertainment approach ASAP to attract even a 55 to 65 year old crowd. The entertainment during the day-time was appallingly poor with just trivia games and sales pitches targeting your $. Too much trivia focused on UK & British items. Unlike Princess, everyone is not so enamored with the British Royal Family. Movie under the Stars is a disaster IMO. What was a decent experience in 2016 is now downright poor. Aside from a couple decent football games shown during our 2 week cruise, most of the movies/material was pretty far out of date, way past box office expiration. Also, the movies shown during the day-time interfere with relaxation and activity around the main pool deck. The Air Conditioning on the ship is spotty and was terrible in our stateroom. We had the air conditioning pegged on the lowest level, and even then, when the sun was on our side of the ship it became pretty uncomfortable. Apparently, based on other reviews this is a known problem for the Sapphire Princess, with cabins on Decks 9 and 11 receiving the most complaints (we were on Deck 9). When we contacted Princess maintenance/guest services, they said nothing was amiss with our A/C, and did not acknowledge they've had numerous complaints. A couple on our floor had to be moved about midway through the cruise. Specialty dining is almost non-existent on a ship this size. The main dining room food and service was good, although the individual dining rooms were dated and lacked a grand scale feel. The Horizon buffet on the Lido deck had average food quality and quantity of selections. The main problem is that the buffet has very tight quarters and is difficult to maneuver around. I must say that the desserts everywhere on the ship are outstanding. Best cruise line in this class/category for desserts.

Totally obstructed balcony room

We booked a balcony room through a very reputable and well known 3rd party. We were told that Princess would assign the actual balcony room. We ended up with a balcony room with an obstructed view, metal all the way to the balcony rail. We had no view whatsoever while sitting down. We did not use the balcony a single time and ended up trying to find suitable places to sit and read around the ship. This was very disappointing. After speaking with customer service and management twice we only received a small future cruise credit as compensation. We have been on several Princess cruises but do not plan to take another one.
