One to avoid as mis sold

I stayed in the Clayton in cardiff with my wife and son and booked 2 executive rooms. I was given rooms 922 and 925 not executive rooms as these were on the 10th floor. So conned. The corridor had a horrible smell the rooms were dirty and dark the bed very small more like a large single and the bed and chairs very worn One room looked at a wall the other had a small window in the corner. The bathroom was clean but in need of replacement very tatty. The bar and restaurant were much better but expensive I booked a drinks package but was told in company this could not be the case as it was only for special occasions quite embarrassing the reception apologised and told me this was wrong and refunded me for it. I am left feeling disappointed and conned. My recommendation is stay somewhere else.

Friendly staff

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable Stay in a Great Location Stayed at Clayton Hotel recently my room was clean, and the bed was ok . Staff were friendly and helpful. Great location near the city centre. Only downside was a bit of a wait at check-in and breakfast.

Rooms very dated

Rooms very dated. Television didn’t work 3 x attempts by staff to get it working. Offered a change of room at 11:45pm 🤦‍♀️ can’t remember when I stayed in a hotel with a shower over the bath and a shower curtain 😂 but staff very friendly and professional. Restaurant staff lovely no complaints. Hotel needs a refurb. But very clean so cleaning staff doing a good job. No complaints with staff but defo needs to be upgraded better hotels in the area. delta, tribe x

Daylight robbery

I booked a room with Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane, and they cancelled it almost immediately after I paid. I never received a refund, despite emailing them for weeks with no response. Eventually, I had to dispute the charge through Revolut and got my money back — only for Clayton Hotels to dispute the refund and take the money back again, even though I never stayed there and they provided no service whatsoever. This is completely unacceptable and feels like theft, plain and simple. Avoid this hotel group at all costs — unresponsive, unprofessional, and clearly have no issue keeping your money without delivering anything in return.

Clayton hotel Galway

Clayton hotel Galway. Three nights B&B. Room 459 smelt off. Serviced once. Dirty toilet. Safe didn’t work. Breakfast cool. Curtain hanging off rail. Phone by the loo! Always need one of those just in case! A large hotel needing a shake-up!

Roberto Soldatich Manager, RE Room 129 18th September 2022

Hi Roberto, THIS IS A TRUE STORY Re Barbara Millington (BM) who has the big C aged 72 & Gill Lewis who has Fibromyalgia aged 62 Room 129 on Sunday 18th Septmber 2022. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me on picking up these two ladies from the Clayton Hotel as I explained their return time was originally 01:50 but due to issues with Ryanair Airplane they had to provide an alternative airplane, an old one that had no drinks or food onboard to purchase, they had not eaten since Breakfast before leaving for departure but that’s not your issue & I am not able to drive at night with Glaucoma, Hense they stayed at the Clayton. Cost £176:00 I sat down with these ladies and let them explain in their own words if you can take the time to read through, on coming through customs BM rang the hotel to ask for the bus & were told you are at Terminal 3 flying Ryanair & should walk outside & go to bus stop “D” as they walked outside a sign indicated Terminal 1 & No bus stops. BM rang the hotel again but he just kept saying we were at Terminal 3 & we should look, then the phone went dead, they went outside again but still could not see any bus stops but saw an arrow pointing to Terminal 3, so BM rang again & was told to follow it to terminal 3 which they did dragging their luggage at which time it was 5am & finally reached a car park completely lost & very scared so BM rang the hotel again, BM was told to look around & tell him what signs I saw, I told him & he said Oh you’re only across the road from us just walk around the roundabouts & you will be here & put the phone down on me. I was not sure how to get round the roundabouts but caught sight of a Policeman who was disgusted but showed us how to get to the Hotel, by the time we had lugged our cases 7 hand luggage we were exhausted 7 in great pain. We were given keys & directions to our room no offer of help with luggage, it took a while to find the room as the numbering was all over the place. We had a couple of Hrs sleep then went to have breakfast hungry as it had been 20hrs since last eaten but after paying £176 we assumed breakfast was included, how wrong we were we had to pay over £33 before we were allowed in, obviously we must have been the last as what was left was diabolical the bacon was overcooked & rubbery as was the tiny bit of scrambled egg which was not enough for two people, but it was all cold the only good thing was the coffee & toast which we made ourselves & after trying to eat it which we wouldn’t have but for being so hungry so we decided pastries we saw earlier but when we went back they’d all gone so we asked a member of staff who went & found 2pastries & said these had been taken to give the staff !!!, to be fair the pastries were very nice. All in all we were disgusted with this prestigious hotel & the way we were treated by the staff. This hotel was booked as a treat after flying back late as Mr Grove who spoke to you was not allowed to drive in the dark. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE.

Never stay here

Well what can I say good about the Clayton hotel in Liffey valley Dublin….NOTHING. I’ve never stayed in a hotel that was so unclean, food terrible, pool not accessible over it being too full. Staff don’t look happy and the bar looks like it’s just thrown in a lobby with a few tables and VERY OVER PRICED DRINK. I understand that things have been quite hard on everyone with the COVID pandemic, but screwing over your own people who will be your bread and butter in the quieter times is not right. We checked in around 7 on the Sunday of the August bank holiday. We were told that we couldn’t eat in the restaurant as it was booked out, fine not a problem. We went to our room and down along the corridor’s the carpet looked like it never been hovered, empty drink classes and food boxes from other take always left outside rooms…went into room quite small for myself, my husband and our 7yr old not like the pictures on their website. Bathroom their was hair on the floor, in the bath and when you put the bath Matt down more long black hair….not good. Said nothing went to bed. Next morning breakfast shown to a table and just left their, no tea, coffee or what to do regarding food. We just followed the crowd. Food not good, went out for the day. Came back around 5, again going down to the room corridor still not hoovered empty glasses and food boxes removed that’s it.. got my 7yr ready for swimming, swimming hat on and goggles and all she was very excited… got down to be told the pool was full to capacity over the bank holiday. My daughter was crushed she loves swimming. Now I know it’s not the pool’s fault for high numbers but you would think you would be informed of the chances of pool being very busy while you were checking in. No chance. We paid for parking which we didn’t need to as you could come and go as needed. The price of drink is so expensive, we don’t drink a lot, but at the prices these guys charge you couldn’t afford to. I will NEVER stay here again. For the money we paid the Clayton should be ashamed of themselves. This was our first time away since covid and like many others we were very excited, pity it was such a let down…😤😤

I stayed in room 201 and left my phone…

I stayed in room 201 and left my phone charger I tried ringing the hotel but got know answer. When I can back from my holiday I went to the hotel reception to ask if they had found it the guy on the desk said he could not get hold of housekeeping and gave me an e-mail address to contact them. The e-mail was wrong so I contacted reservations who said they would forward my querie to housekeeping, I have had no response from them at all I find this appalling that they can’t be bothered to respond and looking at comments from other guests it seems quite a lot of things go missing. I wait for your response SusannLeach

No customer service what so ever!!!!!

No customer service what so ever at the Clayton Manchester airport. We paid £150 for 2 adults & a child, no breakfast included in the price. The room was very dingy, there was no milk available for the tea/coffee facilities. Due to being in a rush we had left some belongings in the room, I’m still waiting for an update about these, 1 week on. I appreciate it’s not the hotels fault that we stupidly left things behind, but the service trying to retrieve/locate the goods is appalling. We left 2 electric razors & a brand new camera battery & lead, value in excess of £250 & so far the items cannot be found, with very little communication & staff promising to return calls & not following this through. If the items are not returned then this hotel has some dishonest staff working for them!! The best thing about this hotel was the chaps that rode the transport that escorted us from the airport to the hotel & vice versa, very pleasant & hard working helpful men.

Poor service and noise

Hello, I have complaint directly to the Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport about my complaint of noise and poor service, although they won’t take responsibility for the noise. They did offer a free upgrade and free breakfast if we stay again, which I will never stay again with this hotel or the brand. Why would we want to return when the main point was to get sleep before a flight. We had a early morning flight and needed to be up at 3.00am, after dinner we went to bed, watched a bit of telly. Although it was challenging and frustrating to get any sleep, there was doors banging all night, a car alarm went off just as we got to sleep. The room above when the shower run, tap run, toilet flushed there was water noise in our room. Needless to say we didn’t get any sleep. We put the TV back on at 13.00am. You might say why didn’t we ask for a change of rooms, to be honest I did not feel like getting out of my pjs, packing and resettling in another room, and I doubt we would have not slept as we were so angry. I am disappointed that the hotel doesn’t seem too interested in the noise complaint. Service in the restaurant was terrible, at one point there was 10 staff around the bar and front of house, it was clearly the start of the shift as they were all greeting one another - hugging and gossiping, needless to say service was not good. Halfway during the meal, we tried to get the attention of the staff for extra drinks, when we did order, 10 minutes later we were still waiting, the drinks had been poured although sat at the bar whilst staff were talking amongst themselves. My husband managed to get the attention of a staff member and advised our drinks were sat on the bar top, she apologised and saying they didn’t know which table the drinks were for. It wasn’t exactly busy at 4.30pm, so doubt they could cope with a busy restaurant In addition, the hotel was the transfer to the airport was an issue. As it was early in the morning, and we were both tired, we thought the driver asked us how many were travelling. When he skipped terminal 1, we realised that perhaps he wanted to know the terminal - although I don’t think the driver's first language was English and with a combination of us been tired it was misinterpreted. When everyone got out at terminal 2, my husband explained we needed to be at terminal 1. The driver was very angry with us, he did not have to say anything it was all in his body language, shaking his head, throwing the cases back in the van, not acknowledging our apology, driving aggressively and then literally throwing our cases on the road when we got to terminal 1. I think if we were not tired, we would have challenged his behaviour and attitude, it was shocking. If you are after a peaceful night sleep and good service - don't stay at this hotel. The hotel needs to consider some soundproofing and it was not worth the money of £246.00 (which did include parking for 8 nights).

Impressed by Jose’s friendly welcome & high-quality service!

Impressed by Jose’s friendly welcome & high-quality service! I travel for business regularly and stayed at Clayton Cambridge in the past two years. Lovely hotel but what I am more impressed is with Jose’s courteous, politeness and efficiency. He was very professional and clearly could see he has a passion for providing the highest standards of hospitality and services to his guests. I was impressed with his enthusiasm and his genuine nature to be helpful. Cannot thank him enough for doing his job so eloquently and professionally.
