One to avoid as mis sold

I stayed in the Clayton in cardiff with my wife and son and booked 2 executive rooms. I was given rooms 922 and 925 not executive rooms as these were on the 10th floor. So conned. The corridor had a horrible smell the rooms were dirty and dark the bed very small more like a large single and the bed and chairs very worn One room looked at a wall the other had a small window in the corner. The bathroom was clean but in need of replacement very tatty. The bar and restaurant were much better but expensive I booked a drinks package but was told in company this could not be the case as it was only for special occasions quite embarrassing the reception apologised and told me this was wrong and refunded me for it. I am left feeling disappointed and conned. My recommendation is stay somewhere else.

Friendly staff

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable Stay in a Great Location Stayed at Clayton Hotel recently my room was clean, and the bed was ok . Staff were friendly and helpful. Great location near the city centre. Only downside was a bit of a wait at check-in and breakfast.

Rooms very dated

Rooms very dated. Television didn’t work 3 x attempts by staff to get it working. Offered a change of room at 11:45pm 🤦‍♀️ can’t remember when I stayed in a hotel with a shower over the bath and a shower curtain 😂 but staff very friendly and professional. Restaurant staff lovely no complaints. Hotel needs a refurb. But very clean so cleaning staff doing a good job. No complaints with staff but defo needs to be upgraded better hotels in the area. delta, tribe x

Daylight robbery

I booked a room with Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane, and they cancelled it almost immediately after I paid. I never received a refund, despite emailing them for weeks with no response. Eventually, I had to dispute the charge through Revolut and got my money back — only for Clayton Hotels to dispute the refund and take the money back again, even though I never stayed there and they provided no service whatsoever. This is completely unacceptable and feels like theft, plain and simple. Avoid this hotel group at all costs — unresponsive, unprofessional, and clearly have no issue keeping your money without delivering anything in return.

Where do I begin

Where do I begin? Giving two stars is generous, not because the hotel lacks comfort, but rather the front of house staff are appalling. That's quite a statement isn't it. There's also a young bar man who took great pleasure in telling me the hotel does not except Sterling. In fairness to the hotel, they don't except any foreign currency. However, the smugness with which this bar man declined the Sterling notes resting on the bar in front of him. Told me, all I needed to know about the level of training this young man has yet to receive. There was an observable low-level of hospitality etiquette rife during our stay. Let's break here, while I inject some positivity into this review. The hotel is impressive in its accommodation for children. It has a games room, with pool table, air hockey table (out of order), a dedicated paly room for younger children, mini-golf (outside), and a little play house built under the stairwell in the leisure area. The health & fitness staff could not have been more congenial, friendly and warm. My son wanted some change, I told him to go to the front desk, it was closer, he didn't want to. He said he didn't like how the front desk staff 'felt'. Lets go back to check in. You never have a second chance, at a first impression. The front desk area lacks warmth. I gave my name, the staff member said "I don't have a booking, would you have used another name". I'd just driven 3 hours, I was tired, of all the different ways a front desk employee could speak to a guest. Do you think the Hilton tells theirs guests straight off, we don't have your booking? I can attest, they do not. To be clear, I've worked for the Hyatt Corporation in America, and I've worked on the front desk. Here's some other ways it could have went, "Could I check I have the spelling of your surname correct?" "Would you have a booking reference that I could cross check with our system please?" and so on. Next, my card did not work in the hotel's card machine, I know, can you imagine my stress building. The Clayton front desk team now had the opportunity to show compassion, to reassure me that this situation could be ironed out. I had to ask if I could be checked in with a deposit of €200, I would go directly to a cash machine and get the remainder. Uncaring, lacking empathy, with looks of semi-distain, was what I received. Once the front desk supervisor gave the 'okay' for me to be given a room. I again asked where I find a cash machine, I was told a garage. Do you think I was given any directions? No I wasn't. They were too busy trying to get me to book breakfast, or dinner. Not knowing where to go I drove around, found a garage, no cash machine. Not sure how I remained calm. I came across an AIB cash machine, in the city centre, out of order, and it then began to rain. I could have cried at this point. Further down the street, the Bank of Ireland, life saver that it is, was working. I withdrew the money for the hotel room. Joseph, was the only staff member who seemed to have a personality. His chef can't cook rice though, and you get half a poppadum, with an unimpressive Indian vegetable curry. Why are you giving guests HALF a poppadum? Who is eating the other half, or are you just throwing it away! There are few positives to the staff encounters I had. I was cold, and called the front desk to ask for a blanket. When someone from housekeeping came to my door, she brought a duvet, and it's cover. Holding them up, she then asked if I wanted her to put it on. If this was the only option, why wasn't the duvet cover already on the duvet. A person only asks this question, when they don't want to go to the trouble, I took it off her, and put it on myself. Don't even get me started on the toilet seat, dear god, wonky! You know when you sit down, and it shifts to the side, yep, each and every time I went to the toilet. Do you think I got the opportunity to tell anyone when I checked out, nope, not a chance, the queue was so long at reception. I took one look at another disgruntled female guest and thought forget this. There weren't enough staff on to check people out, or deal with guest's queries. The Clayton hotel looks good from the outside, but it lacks substance. Very disappointing. I will never use this hotel company again.

Loyalty means nothing to this company

Absolutely disgusted at Manchester Airport Clayton! Our experience shows loyalty and gratitude no longer exists! We have booked this hotel since 2017 every time we have flown out of Manchester - & when I say we I mean 4 people, so a decent booking! When we have gone back through our bookings even to the most recent being November 21 the room price has gone up a ridiculous amount !! We were advised by someone at the bookings team to contact the hotel directly to see what they could do on price with our loyalty and we have received a response saying there’s nothing they can do except the £10 off that anyone can get - Well we will now take our loyalty elsewhere in future

Have run several events at the Chiswick…

Have run several events at the Chiswick Clayton Ballroom. Great space, the staff are very helpful. Library is a plus. Would recommend upgrading to the Executive King suite, worth the extra spend. Great team. Stephanie is always a great hostess, and a great contact.

Dirty bath in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin Airport

I stayed in the Clayton Hotel, dublin airport. I was exhausted after busy few days and looking forward to relaxing before early flight. However, I found that I had to clean the bath before using it. There remained the scum of the previous user around the otherwise clean looking tub. Certainly not expected in these covid times when cleaning standards are expected to be high.

DON'T LEAVE YOU CAR AT THIS…

DON'T LEAVE YOU CAR AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!! This hotel offer a parking service while you are away on holiday. I paid £185 for it. On checking into the hotel, I parked in their car park and handed the keys into reception. Apparently they take the car somewhere else and then bring it back to the hotel car park on the day you return from your holiday. This worked as planned - on returning from my holiday I picked up the car keys at reception and drove home. HOWEVER - a few days later, I received a parking fine of £100 for the day I left the car at the hotel. Then, a few days later, received another parking fine of £100 for the day I picked the car up from the hotel!!!!!!!! DON'T USE THIS HOTEL PARKING FACILITY!!!!!!!!!

Great if you want pet rats…

Stayed the night before flying from Manchester airport. And took advantage of the parking whilst in Barbados. Came back to find my new car covered in rat excrement; upholstery chewed; my coat eaten and air bag damage. Which has been confirmed today as damage from chewed wires. This also caused issues with the seatbelt sensors and door sensors. Contacted the hotel with no avail. Cost me in repairs and paying for it to be deep cleaned inside. Photo evidence but it won’t let me attach on here. Have sent to The Clayton but they weren’t interested.

Definitely not deluxe

Arrived at the Clayton Cardiff to lovely friendly staff and check in was a breeze. There was only 1 lift working which wasn't the best as there were 11 floors. On arrival in the room we found we had only 1 bath towel after calling reception more towels were brought up. Nothing had been dusted I wish I had taken pictures. Thankfully the bedding and bathroom were clean. I guess they just forgot the dusting 🙄 We paid extra to have the deluxe room but I have no idea what was deluxe about it. We won't be staying here again
