Unacceptable Billing Errors by Tomato Energy

I am deeply frustrated with Tomato Energy's billing accuracy. My July 2025 bill for the period of 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2025 was calculated using an estimated meter reading, despite my submission of actual meter readings on 29 June 2025 and 30 June 2025. This resulted in a discrepancy of 158 kWh. For context, my usage last month was less than 100 kWh, making the estimate over 1.5 times my typical consumption.This inaccurate estimate has led to a potentially inflated bill, which is completely unacceptable. I urge Tomato Energy to correct the bill using my submitted readings and overhaul their billing process to prevent such errors. This experience has completely eroded my trust in their service, and I highly NOT recommend Tomato Energy as a service provider. Once my contract term ends, I will switch to another provider and advise all my friends to avoid using Tomato Energy.

I have a reoccurring issue with my…

I have a reoccurring issue with my billing regarding my meter reading. On more than one occasion I have had to reach out to Tomato but the issue crops up again. Today I spoke to Pargat on the phone after my emails had gone nowhere. Incredibly polite and helpful young man, walked me through my problem step by step. I reserve the 1* because my problem is yet to be solved but if it does, that is down to Pargat.

Tomato continues to estimate even though they have actual meter readings

Tomato continues to estimate readings even though they are given actual meter readings. They do not answer their emails. When you call Customer Service, all they do is apologise and say that they will get the Accounts Team to re-figure the bill. This never happens! You also cannot speak to anyone in the accounts department. Thankfully in September, we will be looking for a new supplier as our contract runs out in September! If this doesn’t get sorted, I will report Tomato Energy to the Energy Ombudsman!

Tomato's ingenious business plan.

I must congratulate Tomato Energy on their ingenious business plan.This year i have provided them with 1.10 megawatts of electricity for free. In exchange I was promised that the vast majority of the grid electricity I have drawn from then would be charged at just 5p per kwh as that is at their cheapest charging period between midnight and 6a.m.mainly to charge my 10.36 kw battery. For the rest of the day I manage with Solar and battery power apart from a few watts which is needed to maintain a connection between the grid and battery when the solar panels are not suppling the grid. Unfortunately I am still receiving greatly inflated bills because I am being charged at a high rate for grid electricity after 6 p.m when I am not drawing from the grid at all. I estimate I have been overcharged at least £300. Obviously I have complained, the phone line staff have been most courteous but I have still not heard from your obviously overworked tech man who seems to be on a three day week judging from the many others in my position. It would seem that Tomato's main problem is to persist with the My Watts monitoring system which has the most abysmal record of probably anything on Trust Pilot ie 80% 1 star. I use the accurate Fox Cloud monitoring system. Ron Repath.

Warnings, don’t use them

I would’ve given a minus 5 if I could, the most terrible supplier ever! We were charged 400 pounds for 3 months ESTIMATED usage of a 2 people’s flat in summer time. While with Octopus we only paid around 70 a month. No communication on delaying our switch until I found out myself after 2 weeks of contracted date, no assistance in accessing my MyWatts account, just kept saying “nothing is wrong please rest assured”! The customer service is non existent, when they don’t know how to or don’t want to proceed, they just completely ignore you. I would warn anybody who considers using this supplier, you don’t want to waste your money and time on their horrendous service, it’s not even cheap!!

Its a thumbs up from me for Tomato

Good chat with VJ today. I thought initially it might be some kind of sales call to try to make me switch tariffs but appeared to be a courtesy call where he was able to answer some of my questions about my account and how to monitor my usage. Very happy with the Tomato energy tariff options and their customer service. Better than Octopus! Octopus were useless when it came to getting the combination of their app, my smart meter/smart charger, and my car to all talk to each other which is their requirement to charge the car at cheaper rates. Not to mention Tomato are cheaper.
